Volume 10 Chapter 373 - The Reason They Seek Temar’s Tomb (5)

The trees and plants of the Wantaramo Forest also wailed. The trees twisted and vomited sap as if they were being wrung out, and the plants dropped their leaves while giving off a disgusting odor.

Because Sheila had lost authority, the Wantaramo Forest was linked to Myla’s body.

[Keargh!]

Jin and Aria grimaced at the eardrum-scraping scream while Sheila and the Cat Tribe emerged from hiding.

[Sister! Keargh! Save me!]

Without any sense of shame or self respect… As soon as Myla saw Sheila, she started begging for her life. She laid flat on her stomach, writhing in excruciating pain that enveloped her entire body.

As she looked at Myla, Sheila’s eyes were cold.

[I was your sister, your friend, and your parent. I was also your queen.]

[I was wrong…!]

[I was always generous to you, and I never resented you even when you made up your mind to betray me. I never hated you even after you instigated the people and stole my authority.]

[Sister! Sister!]

It seemed that Myla saw a glimmer of hope through Sheila. The image of the firm older sister forgiving the foolish younger sister. As it had always been.

[I-I’ll give control of the forest back to you, Sister! Please, if you let me live…]

[I forgive you for trying to harm me.]

Myla looked up and met Sheila’s eyes. Like a creature that had seen the light for the first time.

Sheila met her gaze for a moment and then continued.

[But I cannot forgive you for putting the forest and your people in danger.]

[Sister…?]

[Goodbye, my dearest sister.]

As Sheila finished speaking, her appearance changed drastically.

The wings that shone enchantingly disappeared like melting snow, and her small body typical of the Fairy Tribe swelled up, turning red.

She soon took on a human-like appearance, letting out a red glow.

She then slowly lifted Myla, who was rolling on the floor in despair, with both hands.

[No, please!]

Although she kicked about, Myla couldn’t escape Sheila’s grasp.

Whew…

Sheila lightly blew toward Myla, as if blowing away dandelion seeds held in her hand. As the wind blew, Myla’s body began to break apart like a snowflake.

Argh—!

Myla’s last scream was carried into the air by the wind. The shining red particles that had once been Myla left trails everywhere.

Only when nothing was left in Sheila’s grasp did the forest stop crying.

The twisted trees regained their form and the plants began to smell fragrant again. The sky, dark and wet, revealed a bright yellow moon as the clouds cleared.

The corpses scattered on the ground were also swallowed by the dirt and disappeared in an instant, leaving behind no trace. In under a minute, the place they were standing turned into a pristine landscape, making it hard to believe there had been a battle just moments ago.

Sheila looked at her palm for a while, but said nothing.

She was catching a glimpse of her ‘past self’ through the dead Myla.

[Jin Runcandel.]

Sheila turned and looked at Jin.

“Yes?”

[The name written on this royal wine was originally mine.]

He accepted the Royal Wine and looked at the name again.

[Royal Wine - Shil Damiro)

The name of the person who wanted to leave behind a story. That was the old name of Sheila, the queen of the descendants of the Fairy Tribe.

Jin didn’t answer and just stared at the Royal Wine.

And then he remembered a conversation he had with Sheila earlier.

—[Myla. It seems like that child didn’t like me keeping my promise to Solderet. The other children as well. Everyone thinks that we, the descendants of the Fairy Tribe, are making pointless sacrifices. Or they may think that we are harboring meaningless hopes.]

—So they dethroned you, and Myla took control of the forest?

—[That’s right. That’s right. Waiting for you was too uncertain and the reward was already ambiguous… And there were people who said they would give us everything we ever wanted in exchange for a little information. In some ways, betrayal was inevitable.

—What is it that the descendents of the Fairy Tribe want?

—[Regaining our original form.]

Original form.

Originally, the beings of Wantaramo Forest weren't ‘descendants’, but members of the Fairy Tribe themselves.

[I hope there is something in the story contained in this Royal Wine that can be of help to you.]

Pop…!

Sheila opened it.

Using the cap as a glass, she filled it and then handed it to Jin. Amidst the fragrant smell that couldn’t be described with words, the shadow energy swaying within the glass stood out.

Jin and Valeria took turns drinking the wine.

Unlike the Royal Wine he drank when he met the Crimson Gem, Shurry, he didn’t hear any singing.

Instead of singing, he heard the sound of someone sadly sobbing. The sound of Sheila crying while brewing the Royal Wine before she lost her name.

A moment later, they fell into the story contained in the fourth tomb of Temar.

* * *

The primordial forest.

A mysterious place where fairies were said to live.

Jin and Valeria were able to clearly recognize that where they had entered after drinking the Royal Wine was that land.

They had never been there, and had never seen a painting depicting the primordial forest.

Yet the power of the record contained in the Royal Wine made it feel as if they had always known the primordial forest.

Even when they walked on the ground full of bushes, no footprints remained, and even when they spoke to one another, those who existed in the record couldn’t hear them.

In other words, Jin and Valeria looked into the forest as ‘observers’.

And for some reason…

As soon as Valeria entered the place, she felt a longing that seemed to tear her heart out.

Just like when she lost her family, the Gray Owl Mercenaries, an unbearable sadness was tearing at her heart.

She had no choice but to sit down for a moment and catch her breath.

“Valeria.”

“I’m fine.”

Valeria soon stood up, and the two walked together.

While walking, they felt the information about the ‘primordial forest’ contained in the record flowing into their heads.

This forest was currently ruled by the Fairy Queen, Luet Damiro Yul.

“So that person’s Luet Damiro Yul.”

Valeria said, looking at a fairy standing as they reached the depths of the forest.

Red hair, and a cold expression, as if very angry. Jin and Valeria took up positions right next to her.

Jin looked at her closely and shook his head.

“No, it's not the same person as the one I saw on the recording device in the third tomb. It looks like a different fairy.”

It wasn’t long before they found out who that fairy was.

—Shil.

A different fairy appeared from deep in the forest and called her name.

It was Luet Damiro Yul. She came here to meet her younger sister, Shil Damiro, who came to her in anger.

–Your Majesty.

As Shil got down on one knee, Luet shook her head.

—There’s no need to be so formal, Shil.

At Luet’s words, Shil stood up.

—Sister.

—Speak.

Luet and Shil looked at each other for a while without saying a word.

This was their first time since being born as siblings that they had a serious conflict.

Luet had an expression on her face that seemed to say she understood her, while Shil had a look in her eyes that seemed to say Luet would never understand.

—Do you really intend to get involved in human affairs?

-As soon as Shil opened her mouth, Luet nodded.

—I do.

Shil bit her lower lip.

She couldn’t understand her sister’s choice. The same was true for the other fairies who followed Shil.

—Must you? As long as you don’t, Zipfel won't attack us.

—Shil, the moment they started manipulating history, they had begun attacking us.

—No, that’s just your opinion. Zipfel wants us to not interfere and to let humans handle it among themselves.

—How can you be so sure?

Shil didn’t answer those words.

—…Sister, please think carefully. Even with our help, do you think Runcandel can defeat Zipfel? Do you think they’d even feel grateful?

—That’s not important.

—There’s nothing more important than that! This concerns the lives of all our people. Your wrong judgment could kill our entire race!

As Shil started to shout and curse, Luet closed her eyes.

—You're putting our people in danger right now. More than half oppose it. Don’t you get why?

—I do.

—If you know, then make a different decision.

—Shil.

Luet opened her eyes again and looked at her younger sister.

—An individual can choose the wrong path. But the queen must always make the right choice.

—Sister.

—You will understand when you become queen someday. Why I must make this choice…

Shil couldn’t accept those words.

—Be honest. You’re just in love with the head of Runcandel. So, to help Temar Runcandel, just to look good to him, you’re putting our entire race at risk.

—Do you really believe that?

—I can’t trust you anymore.

Luet sighed.

—…So, is it because you can’t trust me anymore that you brought so many of your own people to threaten me, Shil?

As soon as Luet finished speaking, other fairies appeared from various places within the darkness of the forest.

They were fairies who held the same thoughts as Shil.

Everyone was looking at Luet with hostility in their eyes and sharp daggers in their hands.

—Will you kill me and become the new queen?

—If you don’t change your mind, I have no choice.

Shil answered while glaring at Luet.

Luet’s gaze toward her younger sister remained as calm as before.

Shil thought that her sister would eventually back down.

In her mind, Luet wasn’t someone who would be so stubborn when her people took it this far.

Though she hated her older sister who always excelled at everything, made her feel insignificant, and even ascended to the throne she so desperately wanted…

Still, she believed it. That her damned older sister would always make choices for the sake of the Fairy Tribe.

That is why she couldn’t believe or accept the decision that Luet made.

—There’s no helping it.

—Will you change your decision?

Luet shook her head.

—No, if this is the conclusion you want… Kill me.

Luet began to approach Shil.

She took a dagger from her chest and pointed it at Luet’s neck.

Yet Luet showed no signs of stopping, even though the tip of the dagger was piercing her neck. Shil’s mind went blank and she gritted her teeth.

—Damn it…!

Clatter!

In the end, Shil threw the dagger to the ground.
