Volume 10 Chapter 372 - The Reason They Seek Temar’s Tomb (4)

[Urgh, argh! You bitch, my wings, owww! It feels like my whole body’s on fire! I’m going to kill you! You!]

Myla, who had fallen to the ground, was screaming and cursing Valeria.

The heat from the lightning chain still lingered on the ground, so Myla was actually experiencing a searing pain all over her body.

Whilst her screaming continued, Valeria made sure Myla couldn’t escape before leaning against a tree to catch her breath.

There were corpses everywhere.

Every single mage of the third magic tower who had come to Wantaramo Forest had met their death. To a girl who was only 17 at that. Quite literally, they were destroyed.

No one would believe it. Even Jin, with his knowledge of the previous life’s Valeria, was dumbfounded after witnessing this.

‘I knew she was a monster, but I didn’t know she was already like this at 17. This must be why she hadn’t been caught till now.’

Obviously, the amount of raw mana that Valeria possessed was so small that it couldn’t even be compared to that of twenty magic tower mages.

Drew Malaga and his men were most definitely not weak.

However, the reason she could achieve such an overwhelming victory was purely due to her overwhelming genius and an element of unexpectedness.

Just as had been the case in his past life.

Jin felt yet again that he had glimpsed a new world of magic from his teacher.

‘I wonder, where did I get the confidence to act so rudely to her when we first met in my past life…? Thinking about it makes me dizzy.’

Jin felt a chill run down his spine as he recalled the time when he had been learning under her. He thought back to when she said she would teach him lightning magic and ended up scorching his entire body.

Flick…

Valeria took a well-rolled cigarette from her chest pocket and lit it.

It wasn’t so that she could smoke it herself. She blew out the smoke remaining in her mouth as she lit it, and placed the cigarette down in the middle of the ground where the mages had died.

It was a cigarette to honor the Gray Owl Mercenaries. For a while Valeria stared blankly at the cigarette.

The horrific corpses, Valeria staring at the cigarette forlornly, and Myla squirming and continuing to curse. It was a chaotic scene.

The demons judged that she was in a defenseless state.

In fact, she had just exhausted almost all of her mana from helping the Cat Tribe create the passage, as well as the battle.

Swoosh!

The demons rushed toward Valeria at the same time. The demon’s scimitars, shining with aura, swung at her.

Of course, their swords never reached Valeria. Although their physical abilities had greatly improved compared to when they were human, they weren’t fast enough to escape Jin.

Sparks flew as Bradamante and the two scimitars clashed. Jin used Shear once more, but as if they wouldn’t be fooled by the same technique twice, the demons turned to guard the back of the other and struck aside the blades coming from both sides.

“You can’t disturb her remembrance.”

Slice—!

As Bradamante moved, Rick Helter’s chest was cut. Had he been human, it would’ve been a fatal wound, but that seemingly fatal wound was rapidly regenerating.

Jin looked for the corpse of the demon he killed using Shear.

As Valeria expected, the dead demon disappeared, leaving only a black mark behind.

‘I need to control my strength well. That is, If I want to leave evidence without running into any problems.’

Because of their regenerative abilities, it looked like they would be difficult to capture alive. The demons also weren’t so much weaker than Jin that they could be captured by any average binding tool.

‘Regeneration and physical body strengthening, and a mechanism to destroy the body so that information isn’t leaked. Intelligence, as well. Is that all? Oh, one more thing… Their combat strength is equalized.’

Rick Helter.

When he was human, as a leader, he had far greater skills than his subordinates.

But after becoming a demon, he couldn’t be distinguished from the other demons. The regular imperial guards and Rick now had the same level of fighting ability.

The implications of this were tremendous.

‘To make use of demonification, it doesn’t have to be on an imperial guard. Maybe just your average warrior, no… Even just average people can be used to create demons of this strength…’

It was fortunate that he killed three of them while they were still transforming. If he had to face all six, he wouldn’t be able to deal with them so leisurely.

‘If they can use demonification on normal people, and they’re able to command over ten thousand of them… It might flip the current world power dynamic on its head.’

Jin had already experienced something similar in his past life.

He saw with his own eyes how Zipfel mass-produced 7-star mages using the ‘Mirror’, a divine relic of Kollon, and how they further solidified their monopoly on power.

‘We have to preserve a demon’s body as evidence and conduct proper research on it in order to see just how complete this demonification is. The reason they haven’t been mass-produced yet is probably because it’s somehow incomplete.’

Clang!

Bradamante’s swings became faster and faster. As Jin increased the tempo, the demons had no choice but to retreat and go on the defensive.

Even if they were made stronger due to becoming demons, the gap between them was too large to begin with. Even if destiny allowed the demons’ scimitars to reach Jin, they wouldn’t be able to pierce through the shadow energy armor and inflict a fatal wound.

‘Judging from how they dealt with Shear, it looks like they have the ability to learn, but have no memories from when they were human.’

If the demons still had memories of when they had been imperial guards, they wouldn’t have done something like trading their arm for an opportunity to attack Jin’s neck.

Clang—!

The scimitar bounced off the shadow energy armor. The moment the demon’s stance was broken from the recoil, Bradamante cut into its waist.

The blade wrapped in aura passed through flesh and internal organs without a sound. The blunt sensation of a spine snapping was felt through his sword. Jin raised his sword again, cutting crosses into the demon.

Even though its body was split into several pieces, the fallen pieces of flesh were wriggling, as if it had plenty of potential to regenerate.

But the demon chose to destroy itself over regenerating. It showed the demon’s creator's determination to allow no evidence to be left behind.

The only demon left now was Rick Helter. He planned to fight till the end as well, and then self-destruct.

Flicker…!

Suddenly, a blue flame ignited on Bradamante.

The power of Tess, the blue fire. The moment the fire was lit, the demon’s sword grew noticeably slower.

It couldn’t move properly due to the ‘pressure’. Even when it could use its full power, it was still not a match, so the only thing it could do now was to self-destruct.

It showed signs that it was about to self-destruct even though only its arm was cut off. Its body was turning to ash like the other dead demons.

Normally, this was a very rapid process.

However, the power of pressure didn’t only slow down its movement, but also this process of self-destruction.

“Valeria, now!”

Jin quickly closed the distance between him and the demon and shouted as he cut off the arms. He gave her a signal as she had asked, so that she could use magic to preserve some evidence.

Even though the pressure was slowing down the destruction rate, the demon’s body was getting smaller with each passing second.

Phwoosh—!

A single ray of mana containing ice energy flew in from behind. As soon as the mana reached the demon’s torso, a seal of ice magic quickly formed with a crackling sound.

Fortunately…

The magic seal was completed faster than its destruction.

The magic seal fell to the ground with a dull sound. The seal was spherical, and inside it only the head and chest of the demon remained.

The two arms and the rest of its body that Jin had cut off had already oxidized and scattered into the air.

“Any later and we would’ve missed it.”

Jin wiped his forehead as he looked down at the magic seal. Valeria came next to him and nodded.

“It would’ve been a lot closer if it weren’t for the power of the blue fire contained within your sword. We probably would’ve ended up with just half a head.”

“Anyway, well done. All that’s left now is to go into the tomb and escape before reinforcements arrive.”

For a moment, the two remained silent, looking down at the seal containing the demon’s head and chest.

“Jin Runcandel.”

“Yeah?”

“You told the demon not to disturb my remembrance. Why did you say that?”

“You put down a lit cigarette without even smoking it. What else could it mean? You also told Drew about people who were trampled on, and about how you were the blood of those that had been murdered.”

In reality, it was because of his past life’s memories that he knew Valeria’s actions were in remembrance, but it wasn’t strange for him to answer in such a manner.

“I see.”

“Yeah.”

“You didn’t seem all that curious about me using a sword either.”

“Well, there are mages who train their body and use weapons. Your dagger skills were pretty advanced, to the point that it's actually a shame you can’t use aura.”

“It was the first time I revealed my true identity, but you called me Valeria very naturally.”

He barely managed to stop his body from flinching.

“Is that so strange? I don’t know what you’re trying to say.”

Valeria shrugged.

“Well, nothing much. I’m just curious why.”

“The fact that you revealed your real name while I was listening means that you trust me to that extent. I liked it, so I called you as such.”

Valeria stared at Jin intently.

Jin didn’t avoid her gaze and waited quietly for her next words.

[Kearghh! Arghhhhh!]

What he heard first wasn’t Valeria’s response, but Myla’s screams, still rolling on the ground.

“…First, we need to ask the Fairy Queen what to do about her.”

“I agree, Valeria Hister.”

* * *

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Wantaramo Forest.

Two mages were looking for the horses they had ridden with flushed faces.

They were the mages of the third magic tower who came to the Wantaramo Forest with Drew Malaga.

Originally, their goal was to pursue Jin, but Drew ordered them to report back to Zipfel as quickly as possible.

A report about a mage using ‘Archival magic’ in the Wantaramo Forest.

“Archival magic, huh…? There’ll be a lot of commotion for a while.”

“Just reporting it will be grounds for a promotion… We’ll be able to access more of the library…”

Thump!

The mage who had been replying fell forward.

“Uh, hey! What’s wrong, are you oka…?!”

The other mage also couldn’t finish his sentence.

It was because a long poisonous needle was stuck in the back of his neck. The two mages didn’t realize even at the moment of their death that they had been ‘murdered’.

“Mm, mm—”

And two steps behind them was a woman humming.

The woman cheerfully searched through the belongings of the dead mages, and smiled brightly when she found a letter with the name of her beloved youngest brother written on it.

“That youngest brother of mine, he’s quite clumsy, isn’t he? Hehe.”

It was Yona.

After pocketing the letter, she spoke.

“I was wondering what I should do on my vacation. Should I just go kill whoever came for the youngest?”
