Chapter 260

'I didn't expect to get such a proposal,' JiHan thought. The red-headed dragonkin had never communicated with humans in his pre-regression life. Just like when he'd looked down at Coach Davis in silence before the start of the first game, the dragons crushed humans in every game and had never attempted to talk in the process of doing so.

The dragons usually acted like humanity was such a lowly species that they weren’t even worth speaking to. JiHan was amazed that a being from such a species would try to recruit him just because he’d injured their head in a game.

“I've heard some rumors about how the elves' trickery failed and how they were executed in return. The rumors say that they somehow lost to one of the weakest species.”

"…" JiHan remained silent.

“I also saw a hidden boss with incredible strength appear. Despite belonging to a pathetic species, it showed incredible power. My species also had quite a hard time dealing with it. That hidden boss, who was in a ‘Hideout’ state, felt very similar to you.”

"Ah, the hidden boss?” JiHan smirked. “It seems like it ended up being defeated." If the dragon was saying they had difficulty dealing with it, then that implied they’d eventually caught it.

The red dragon huffed out fire. “It's a difference in species. If you were a dragon, your hidden boss would have remained an unbeatable existence. If you want to go beyond the limits of your species, then join us.”

"Is that even possible?" JiHan asked in return.

“It's possible. I just need to put you inside a dragon's egg.”

"You want me to enter an egg…?"

“Yes. You… I'll put you inside my, Altkaizen's, egg. Although I'm from a distant branch, I'm still a descendant of the Dragon Lord, the one who reigns over all dragons across the universe. That should be a great honor for you.”

"Are you saying I should become your offspring?"

“My offspring…”

Fwoosh!

Flames spread from the red dragon, Altkaizen, and a giant red egg appeared.

“Yes. If you successfully hatch from within this egg, that will be the case.” Altkaizen specifically used the word 'successfully'.

= What's the dragonkin representative trying to do…?

= Entering that egg… Doesn't that sound suspicious to anyone else?

= JiHan, I believe you will make a wise decision!

The commentators sounded nervous. The power they’d seen from the dragons in the first game had been overwhelming, after all, so they were worried about what would happen if JiHan decided to become a dragon.

- Woah, they offered to make him a dragon…

- A fragile human who can't live 100 years versus a super strong lizard that can live for thousands of years… The latter option sounds more attractive, right?

- Yes~ He should become a dragon. The only thing that will happen then is that we’ll surely be demoted.

- Please don't joke like that. If JiHan joins the dragonkin, we'll really drop down to last.

- There's no way he's going to accept such a suspicious offer.

Everyone focused on how JiHan would answer.

"Hey, I have a question," JiHan said.

“What are you curious about?”

"Why are dragons ranked below the elves?"

“What?”

"I understand how amazing dragons are from the last game, but I'm curious as to why our League's top-ranking species is an elf planet while you guys are 2nd. The wins are the same, but shouldn't dragons naturally have more points?"

JiHan had no intention of becoming a dragon in the first place and took the opportunity to ask the dragon something he'd been curious about for a long time. When he met the dragonkin before his regression, just like during the first game, the human team was wiped out before they could do anything.

Humans could at least fight back a bit against the World Tree’s elves, but the dragons were too overwhelming for them to do anything against. How could such a powerful species have been ranked 6th, below the elves? It was a mystery to him. 'It’s good that I asked him while I had the chance.'

JiHan had asked the question in a light-hearted manner, but the dragon reacted more intensely than he expected. “Ranked below to the elves… Haa. How unpleasant.”

Fwoosh—!

The dragon’s red egg burst into flames and vanished. “You aren't allowed to enter my egg,” Altkaizen said.

"Just for asking a question?" JiHan asked.

“Yes. Those who doubt the dragons do not deserve to inherit the blood of the Dragon Lord.”

"I was just curious. Elves and dragons… It seems like there's something going on, huh?"

Flash—!

A bright yellow light burst from Altkaizen’s eyes. If it were inside the game, it seemed like he would’ve devoured JiHan whole.

'Based on his reaction, it seems like they hate the elves.' JiHan calmly looked back into the Altkaizen's eyes. Unlike Coach Davis, he wouldn't tremble from a dragon's gaze.

[The ‘Red-headed Dragonkin’ have forfeited the second game. ‘Humanity’ has won by default.]

[The ‘Red-headed Dragonkin’ have forfeited the third game. ‘Humanity’ has won by default.]

After Altkaizen forfeited two games, as promised, and he opened his mouth to reveal his teeth. “As per the contract, I gave your species two games. There’ll be no mercy now.”

Swoosh—

Unlike in the first game, Altkaizen used a single priority card.

= The dragonkin decided not to use a ban card! Moreover, their chosen priority card is… Valhalla! The map we wanted!

= Was it that upsetting for the dragon to be compared to the elves? I feel his determination to crush us on the map we're most confident in!

= Anyway, this is the best outcome for us!

= That's right! JiHan's going to remain human, after all.

= I've always believed in JiHan!

Whether the dragon was angry or not, it was the best outcome for humanity. Not only had they gotten two wins for free, but JiHan wasn’t banned and could participate in the fourth game on Valhalla.

'I'll also choose.' JiHan also played his priority and ban cards.

[3 players out of the ‘Top 10’ players of the 'Red-headed Dragonkin' will be banned.]

[Players ranked 2nd, 6th, and 7th are banned and cannot participate in the starting game.]

It was a worse outcome than Coach Davis's, who'd managed to ban players ranked 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

[The map for game 4 has been decided.]

[Map 4: Valhalla]

The map humanity wanted, Valhalla, was confirmed.

“Humanity… I will personally show you how inferior your species is,” Altkaizen said before the game started.

JiHan lightly responded with, “Try beating an elf first, like I did.”

“You…!” Unable to contain his anger, Altkaizen growled. For dragons, mentioning elves was like pressing a rage button. “Before we take you into our species, you must first undergo mental training!”

"Who said I’d go?" JiHan asked as Altkaizen entered the game.

'So this is how the player lineup is done.' JiHan, who'd come out as the human manager, selected 50 Warriors based on rankings from the player selection window that appeared before him before he also entered the game.

50 Warriors were chosen from each team to compete in the vast hall of Valhalla.

[A species adjustment will be applied.]

[10 humans will be summoned for each dragon.]

Unlike in the Battlefield of Chaos, the species adjustment ratio had been changed to 10 players per dragon.

= 10 to 1? The balance adjustment is a bit disappointing! It was 50 to 1 in Battlefield of Chaos, and it still ended in the blink of an eye.

= Is it because the Valhalla map is small?

= In reality, Valhalla, the Warrior's castle, isn't small…

= The massive dragons make it feel cramped.

A light flashed, and a huge red dragon whose head seemed to almost touch the ceiling appeared on the dragons’ side.

"Woah, how big…" a human player muttered.

"Shouldn't Battle Net have such huge monsters fight against other giants? How are we supposed to fight something like that…?"

"Will we even be able to cut him?'

"Seeing how flames rise between its scales, it seems like we'll just burn if we get close to him."

"Why is there only one on their side?"

The 50 Warriors looked up at Altkaizen and wondered why only one dragon had been summoned instead of five. Wasn't the species adjustment ten-to-one?

Flash! Flash—!

Four giant eggs appeared around the dragon.

"Isn't that the egg he told you to enter?" someone asked JiHan.

"You're right," JiHan said. He’d faced dragons several times before his regression, but he’d never seen them use eggs before. 'Is it because we just talked about eggs? How strange.' Just when he was preparing to fight…

“Unawakened eggs, arise.” Upon Altkaizen's command, flames burst forth from the giant eggs, and the fire changed shape into dragons. Except for the faces, to be precise.

"What's up with those dragons’ faces…?" someone asked.

"They don’t look lizardlike."

"Don’t they look similar to the urks we saw?"

"That one is an octopus…"

Though the dragons that emerged from the eggs each had a dragon’s body, they all had different faces. From a pig’s face, to an octopus’s, to a horse’s, and more… None of them looked how a dragon should.

“Unite.” Upon Altkaizen's command, the fire dragons with diverse heads started to merge into the red dragon.

“Aah…!” one of the dragons screamed. “N-not again…!”

Fwoosh—!

After the four dragons vanished, a giant flame rose from Altkaizen.

"Brother-in-law…” Sae-jin said, “You made the right choice by deciding not to become a dragon egg. If you had, you might have ended up as dragon fuel."

"You're right," JiHan agreed. Although he never intended to become a dragon, watching the fire dragons being absorbed by Altkaizen made him lose any further interest.

Then…

“What do you think?” Altkaizen asked.

"What are you talking about?"

“Don't you regret your decision?”

"…" JiHan remained silent.

Altkaizen solemnly said, “You missed the opportunity to become one with me.”

Was he seriously saying that?

“If you'd become an egg, you would have been able to become at least a fragment of me, Altkaizen, who will become the Dragon Lord’s heir.”

"Didn't you say that successfully hatching means becoming your child?" JiHan asked.

“Child… Yes. As you saw earlier, didn't they become children? Then, very successfully, they became part of me.” It seemed that dragons had different concepts of ‘children’ than humans did.

JiHan decided to provoke the dragon again. "I understand why you're strong, but why do you fall behind elves?"

“Ha. You bastard…!” A yellow glow appeared around the dragon’s body before spreading in every direction. “Dragon Flare.”

BOOM—!

An overwhelming explosion erupted around him.

"Ah…!"

"Sh-shields…!"

The human Warriors burned away without having a chance to do anything, and the explosion also caused the castle to start collapsing.

= Th-the map…

= It's breaking again! We thought the Valhalla map would be good to use due to how small it is, but…

= It’s being destroyed in the blink of an eye!

= Almost 50 Warriors were annihilated in an instant…! There are only two survivors!

Swoosh—

Only JiHan and the Sword King remained standing in the aftermath of the fiery explosion. JiHan only had a few small burns, but Sae-jin’s Twin Swords were half-melted, and he was burned to the brink of death.

"Haa… What insane power." Still, he was somehow managing to speak.

“Oh… So you also survived.” Altkaizen gave Sae-jin an interested look. “You aren't a bad egg candidate.”

Swoosh—!

Before the dragon could finish speaking, a bloody line appeared across his forehead, and his head fell into two parts. JiHan held Eclipse and stood in front of the dragon’s body. "Is that all you have? You're quite weak for someone who wants to become my father."

Swoosh—!

The dragon’s head regenerated. “The new children seem quite rebellious. You need discipline.” Once again, Altkaizen used the term, ‘children’.

Then…

“Dragon Flare.” Yellow light glowed from the dragon’s body.
