Chapter 293

Three days later, at the World Tree's Alliance's loan counter…

"Hello," JiHan said, waving his hand. He’d been commuting to the loan counter every day for three days in a row.

"So you’re here again…" the weary-looking elf behind the loan counter sighed. "The branch manager did ask you to come and visit again, but… I didn't expect you to come so often."

"The match hasn't started yet, so I’m here to eat more fruit." JiHan had been promoted to the Master League at the end of May. He couldn’t do anything until later in June, so he used the time to consistently visit the loan counter.

'My Life Energy has significantly increased.' Although it didn't appear in his status window as a stat, Life Energy was certainly a power that flowed within him. Every time he ate the fruits offered during the consultations at the loan counter, he significantly increased his Life Energy.

"I'm sorry,” the elf said, “but the branch manager isn't here at the moment, so I cannot provide you with any more gifts." The elf, who was the manager's subordinate, told him.

"Wasn't it you guys who asked me to come often? No gifts after just three days? It seems that the World Tree elves are more stingy than I thought they were."

"Repeatedly giving gifts to a player who hasn't provided us with information is beyond my authority. Unless you'd like to provide us with some personal information…"

"Forget about it," JiHan said. Although the fruit had greatly increased his Life Energy, he couldn't reveal his information to the World Tree Alliance.

The elf nodded as if expecting JiHan’s refusal. "Then I can't provide you with more gifts until the manager returns."

"When does he get back?" JiHan asked.

"This isn't the only loan counter that we operate. The branch manager is in charge of dozens of other areas, so I'm not sure when he will return."

'It can't be helped,' JiHan thought. If what the elf said was true, then was their last meeting a mere coincidence? As expected, there was a limit to how much he could grow by taking advantage of things in such a way.

"That guy… He didn't give out his personal details and still received gifts?" a nearby player murmured.

"To think he would get fruit for free. Who is he?"

"They only give us fruit when we pay more than 10 billion GP a month in interest…!"

"I want more as well!"

When the other players overheard the conversation at the loan counter, they voiced their complaints. Gifts were given for free during the first loan consultation, but from then on, people had to pay over 10 billion GP a month in interest to sometimes get World Tree fruits.

The World Tree Alliance absolutely refused to sell the fruits, which was why there were a few players who, despite having enough GP, took out loans just to eat the fruits.

How many times had that guy from a small species eaten the fruits for free?

"As you can see, our existing customers are quite dissatisfied. Without the branch manager's permission, no further gifts can be provided."

JiHan looked at the players who were staring back at him. 'So that's how you end up if you don't do anything about the fruit and tea mixing inside you.' They all looked to be incredibly strong players. Regardless of their species, they were probably all prominent figures in their respective worlds. Since they’d fallen under the control of the fruit and tea combination, though, they’d all developed an addiction.

JiHan smiled and said, "Okay. Everyone, keep up the good work." Then, he logged out.

Flash—!

'It's almost June 1st. Time definitely flows strangely over there.' Sometimes, it seemed that time moved faster at the loan counter than on Earth, other times, it seemed slower. It was 11:30 on May 31st, so he just had about 30 minutes.

'I should show my face.' JiHan walked out of the room.

"Oh, brother-in-law." He saw Sae-jin, who had packed things up inside a suitcase.

"Are you going somewhere?" JiHan asked.

"Ah, I received a quest from my constellation. I'll be traveling elsewhere inside the country for a while, searching for the things he asked me for, so take care of Sae-ah in my place, please."

"Inside the country?"

"Yes."

JiHan tilted his head. Sae-jin's constellation was the 'Primordial King', Gilgamesh. He couldn't understand why Gilgamesh would ask him to search for things within the Korean peninsula. "What kind of objects are you looking for?"

"I'm not sure. The message just said to look for relics."

Korean relics? What was Gilgamesh planning? Seeing the urgent look on Sae-jin’s face, JiHan nodded. "Understood. Have a safe trip, brother-in-law."

"Thank you."

"Dad, have a safe trip~" Sae-ah exclaimed.

"Yes, Sae-ah. Be good and listen to what your uncle says."

"I can listen to him if he's at home."

After waving to JiHan and Sae-ah, Sae-jin hurriedly rushed toward the door. Why was he in a hurry at such a late hour?

"Why didn't he leave in the morning?" JiHan mumbled.

"Right?” Sae-ah agreed. “Driving at night is dangerous. Well, I'm sure Dad could survive, even if there were a car crash…"

"Hmm… Aside from the matters related to my sister, it's the first time I've seen him rush like that."

"Maybe it's because the number of people sponsored by the 'Primordial King' has increased."

"Really?"

"Yes. He's already sponsored hundreds."

"Hundreds…?"

"Yes. They're mostly top players. Nowadays, if you don't get a sponsorship proposal from the 'Primordial King', they say you're a player without potential."

Gilgamesh had appeared at the same time the Wandering Martial God disappeared and was aggressively sponsoring players. That hadn't happened during JiHan’s pre-regression life. Was it because, back then, Gilgamesh never woke up?

'I was hoping for him to descend into Sae-jin so I could ask something. That's too bad.' Gilgamesh had been marked as a traitor by the void, and the World Tree Alliance said that, a long time ago, a major error happened on Earth. They collaborated with the void to handle the error, but the details were lost.

JiHan thought the error was probably related to Gilgamesh.

'My main enemy is ultimately the Wandering Martial God. I'm still unsure as to whether Gilgamesh is my enemy or an ally, so there's no reason to be hostile until I get more information.'

Ultimately, he would have to face the Wandering Martial God for Martial Soul. Gilgamesh could be a valuable ally for that confrontation. He wasn't sure what ulterior motives the constellation had, but he seemed to be friendly. Since humanity had received an invitation from Battle Net because of Gilgamesh, though, he would have to do something about him eventually.

'Now's not the time.' Given the circumstances, he couldn't antagonize him. It didn’t matter why Gilgamesh was acting favorably toward him, he had to accept it for the moment.

'I still need to grow more.' JiHan was ranked 1st among humans and was the first Master-League player. Not only that, but he'd also been named ‘Space Arena's Rookie’. Despite all that, there were still opponents he couldn't face yet. Since he'd been promoted and his level cap was removed, he thought he needed to start leveling up again.

"Oh, Uncle. It's 12 o'clock," Sae-ah said.

"Okay, I'll be going." As soon as Sae-ah told him the hour, he logged into a match.

[You've been assigned to the Master League, Space - 4.]

[You are among the top 1% of players in Space - 4.]

[You can move up to ‘Space - 3’ through a special mission.]

[Will you challenge the special mission?]

Even the ‘Space - 4’ area, which was only accessible to the top 0.001% of players, wasn't an obstacle for JiHan. He'd dominated each game by finishing 1st. Since he'd moved up to Master League, Battle Net suggested he move up a rank.

'I have to challenge this.' The higher Leagues offered more experience. Since he needed as much experience as possible, it was an offer he couldn't refuse. He accepted the invitation.

[You've been given the special defense map 'North Wall'.]

[Unknown entities will start invading from beyond the giant wall.]

[Do your best to defend during the 10 days of the battle and finish among the top 50%.]

Just like its name indicated, the North Wall was a defense-type map. Considering that it required him to finish among the top 50%, it was clearly a map where he needed to compete with others.

'I often have to clash with others in normal maps, and since this is a special map, it will probably be encouraged even more.' Maybe he would have to defend against other players as well. When he tried to see more details about the map…

[You own a guild.]

[You can challenge the map through a guild mission.]

[Will you challenge 'North Wall' through a guild mission’?]

[If you complete it as a guild mission, guild rewards will be given, and rewards will be distributed to all members.]

'A guild mission?' JiHan's Bloom Guild was a nurturing-type guild. Except for a few members, most had come from other guilds after paying to be in there. He merely had a transactional relationship with them, so he didn't need to give them rewards by conducting a guild mission.

'There's a guild bonus, and since the rankers are so far behind, it might be worth doing it to compensate.' Without his help, humanity ended up losing the match against the birdmen, and helping humanity’s rankers grow was another one of his tasks. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to conduct a guild mission to help them.

'Although the guild mission's difficulty will probably be a lot higher than the solo one…' The Bloom Guild consisted of players who hadn't properly worked together on coordination. Compared to guilds from other worlds, they would probably be far behind in terms of skill.

Maybe it would be hard to get in the top 50%, but JiHan decided to take the risk for the guild reward.

'I can give this reward to the members for free.' He didn't know what would be given as a reward, but since he was about to move to ‘Space - 3’, it would probably be good.

Since he had been using a lot of GP recently, he decided to take this chance to gather more.

"I wonder if HaYeon is sleeping," JiHan said.

"I don't think so,” Sae-ah replied. “She just returned home after training. She’s probably waiting for your Master League match. Why did you bring that up?"

"I got a guild mission, so I have something I have to talk about with her."

"A guild mission…? Was there something like that?" Sae-ah's eyes shone.

"I just received it as a mission for ‘Space - 3’."

"Uncle, you're moving to ‘Space - 3’ already? Ah, well… you swept through ‘Space - 4’, so that makes sense." Sae-ah answered her own question.

"A reward will also be given to the guild members for the guild mission reward, so giving it away for free would be a pity," JiHan said.

"Of course! Everyone would be willing to pay any amount of GP for a chance at the rewards from the mission you’re doing."

"Yes. I should discuss the pricing with her." JiHan picked up his phone.

[Ah, Mr. Sung. Why are you calling me at such an hour? Ah… a guild mission? Really? I'll be right there!]

Thus, the Bloom Guild’s leadership gathered late at night.

"Though the exact rewards are not known, since it's a mission Mr. Sung received, they must be substantial. I think we could put the GP price very high. Let's start with this as the minimum…"

"Isn't that too expensive?"

"Not at all. Since people will share rewards from one of Mr. Sung’s missions, this should actually be cheap. If we require an additional GP payment depending on the reward…"

The pricing discussion lasted until dawn; then, guilds around the world were notified.

The next morning, the front pages of news outlets worldwide were featuring the guild mission details JiHan had received.
