Chapter 290

"Kill Gilgamesh?" JiHan asked.

"Yes."

JiHan frowned. Gilgamesh was the fifth servant of the Wandering Martial God, and the constellation was otherwise known as the 'Primordial King'. Based on what he’d seen so far, the being was friendly toward him. He’d both warned him about Longinus and taught him how to properly use Celestial Tree’s Descent to summon Enkidu.

Of course, he wasn't sure what the being’s true intentions were, but it didn't feel right to make him an enemy based on the arena's master's words alone.

JiHan slowly began to speak. "So, as long as Gilgamesh lives, humanity will continue to be invited to Battle Net?"

"That's right."

Ziing—

The arena master’s face changed again to show the invitation humanity had received in 2010.

[Humanity has been invited to Battle Net.]

"Humans are weak. To a species like yours, a Battle Net invitation equals extinction. That's why we're always careful about which species are invited. We only sent an invitation to your planet because you crossed a predetermined line."

"Gilgamesh is the one who crossed that line?” JiHan asked. “He lived a long time ago, though. Why didn't you send an invitation earlier?"

"He wasn’t detected until recently. He'd been hiding, avoiding the void's eyes, but since he was confirmed to be alive and a traitor, invitations will keep arriving."

"If you wanted to catch him because he’s a traitor, you could’ve just attacked him where he actually resides, the Fight Star, why bother with Earth?"

"The Fight Star…" The arena's master's face turned into the Fight Star. Of course, since the being was able to recreate that lonely island in space with countless constellation weapons floating around, JiHan realized that the arena master was already aware of it.

"We cannot intervene there,” the arena master said. “There's a pact between the Wandering Martial God—the master of the Fight Star—and one of our higher-ups, though we don’t know the details."

"So that’s why you picked Earth?" JiHan asked.

"Yes. Ultimately, Gilgamesh is a human. That's why, if humans are exterminated, he will lose his background and his power."

"How do you know all this…?"

Drrr—

Purple chains emerged from behind the arena master. Unlike with Celestial Tree's Descent, he couldn't feel the Life Energy from them. Instead, they were exuding an even more intense void power.

"The 'Void's Chains' is a technique I taught Gilgamesh. What he uses is the same technique, though he modified it to his liking. I have quite some history with him and know a lot about him."

"So you're on the void's side," JiHan concluded.

"That's correct. I'm quite high-ranked as well. I'm in charge of an arena, after all." The arena master introduced himself as a high-ranking official of the void.

JiHan thought of his sister, Sung Ji-ah. "Then, do you know how the Witch of the Void can return to her original form?"

"The Witch of the Void?" When the conversation suddenly shifted from Gilgamesh to the Witch of the Void, the arena master went silent for a moment; then, his face transformed again into Ji-ah’s frozen visage. "The Earth's witch… She's quite talented and highly valued by the void."

Swoosh—

The arena master stretched out his hand, and a purple key appeared in the air. "If you handle Gilgamesh for me, I will use my authority and give you this key."

"That key?"

"Yes. Using this, you can unlock the witch's chains and return her to her original state.”

'Huh, I received a hint on how to free my sister from somewhere completely unexpected.’ JiHan stared at the key for a moment. If he dealt with Gilgamesh, he’d be able to free his sister and liberate humanity. The rewards were quite considerable, but there was a problem…

'The issue is whether I can trust him or not.' Based on JiHan’s experience so far, anything said by another being in the Space League had to be taken with a grain of salt, especially when that being was as suspicious as the arena master.

JiHan decided to remain cautious for the moment. "I'm a player who just moved up from Diamond to Master. Fighting him is still too difficult for me."

"Fufu. I wasn't asking you to kill him right away, of course. With your current abilities, you would fail." The arena master stepped back and nodded. “I just want you to remember it as your goal if you want to free humanity from Battle Net and return the Witch of the Void to her original form.”

Tap, tap—

"I'll be sure to take it into consideration," JiHan said.

"Not blindly trusting everyone is a good attitude."

Swoosh—

The arena master’s body began to merge into the darkness. "I will turn a blind eye this time… but be cautious when using the Red Administrator's abilities. If you attract a grand constellation’s attention, you will face a considerable amount of trouble."

"Thanks for the advice."

"I hope you survive for a long time and continue being a 'variable'." Finally, the arena master vanished.

[The promotion match is ending.]

[Player ‘Sung JiHan’ has advanced to Master League.]

[The first Master-League player, Sung JiHan.]

[Was that fire the result of JiHan's training? The ability he showed was different from usual.]

[More than half of JiHan's promotion match wasn't visible.]

[Why isn't it being translated? Viewer complaints about Battle Tube increases.]

Since JiHan fought his way up to the Master League by himself, every media outlet covered the story of his promotion match, causing an unbelievable amount of attention to be focused on a single player. Such a thing was understandable since JiHan encompassed almost all of humanity’s fighting strength.

- Why wasn't the screen visible?

- Every time a transcendent being appears, the stream stops.

- Is JiHan stopping the stream when that happens?

- Probably not. His opponents are probably doing it.

- The conversation with that fire being wasn't translated either.

- Hearing an alien language without translation was kind of refreshing, lol.

"This promotion match did go a bit too far." Sae-ah nodded as she read the replies on news articles related to JiHan.

"What do you mean?" JiHan asked.

"We were only able to see you mop the floor with the other players like they were trash mobs. Near the end, almost nothing was visible. To make things worse, what the fire guy said wasn't translated."

"I also couldn't understand what he was saying at the start." He’d only understood the fallen fire god after he absorbed a bit of the being’s power. Though that was the case for him, his viewers never understood the slightest bit.

JiHan replayed the Battle Tube video on his channel. It looked like the footage was censored from the moment the fire god’s true body appeared, and at the top of the black screen were some purple words.

[This section has been deleted by the arena master.]

"Can you see these words?" JiHan asked.

"Huh? Is there supposed to be something written over the screen?"

"It's been concealed by the void's power, so take a closer look."

"By the void? Ah, wait a moment. Inventory." Sae-ah took out her bow and then utilized the power of the void contained inside her.

'She's become quite strong,' JiHan observed, marveling at his niece’s growth as she used all of her power.

"Ah!" Sae-ah exclaimed in surprise when she finally saw the words. "It says that it was deleted by the arena master. Woah, so this writing was hidden?"

"Yes. It seems that you can't see it unless you have the Void stat."

"Amazing… Huh?" As Sae-ah read the words on the black screen, her eyes widened in surprise. "Uncle, Mom wants to know if you met the arena master."

"Of course, I saw him. He's the one who gave me the ‘Rookie’ title."

"She says, 'The arena master is an absolute being who holds control of an axis of the void’s cycle. You didn't offend him, right?'"

Was the arena master that important? JiHan wondered if he should tell Ji-ah about the matter of her liberation. 'It's still too early for that.' He decided not to tell her for the moment. After all, it was obvious that Ji-ah would say it wasn't necessary.

On top of that… 'I should first figure out more about Gilgamesh. I'm still unsure of whether he's a foe or not, so I can't just randomly show hostility.' There was no way he could fully trust the words of someone he'd met for the first time. He wasn't sure who was an ally or an enemy, so he had to watch and wait.

That's why, instead of talking about Gilgamesh, he mentioned something else. "What could I have done to provoke the arena master? He merely chose me as the ‘Space Arena's Rookie’."

"The Rookie…? What's good about being a rookie? Ah. Mom said that the cost required to participate in the arena decreases."

That’s all? It just provided a discount when it came to participating in the arena? 'It's quite a disappointing reward for an epic quest.' All he got from the quest was a 100-day reduction in the time required to become a ‘Constellation Candidate’ and the title of ‘Space Arena’s Rookie’.

He still thought the real reward was absorbing the fire god and increasing his Red stat. Wasn’t a discount on a participation fee just too stingy?

"Mom asked you to check how much it costs to participate in the Space Arena."

JiHan opened the system window and saw a new selection, ‘Space Arena’, had been added. When he pressed on it…

[Would you like to participate in the Space Arena?]

[You're a ‘Space Arena's Rookie’. You've received rookie benefits.]

[Space Arena Rookie Benefits.]

- Once every 100 days, you get a free arena voucher.

- 30% discount on the participation fee.

- A one-time loss penalty exception. However, upon losing, your rookie status is lost.

He saw a message asking him if he wanted to participate, along with the list of rewards. There was nothing related to stat or growth increases. His benefits were only related to participating in the Space Arena.

'If it's player exclusive, then I won't even be able to sell it.' He wondered whether the benefits were even good or not until… 'The participation fee is… 100 billion GP?' His eyes widened in surprise as soon as he saw the participation fee. It cost the same amount as the Pleasure Palace ticket he’d received earlier.

Even with a 30% discount, it cost 70 billion GP to play once.

‘Why so expensive?’ "What's so good about participating in the Space Arena…?" JiHan asked.

"Mom says it allows you to experience rapid growth, and you could also obtain special abilities. She also says to be cautious since there’s a chance of meeting strong opponents.”

‘Strong opponents?’ JiHan thought of the previous match. Although most were probably strong players in their respective worlds, they had been easily incinerated by his flames. 'The only one who offered some resistance was the fire god's remnants.'

Even then, the fire god attempted to devour him but simply became another portion of his stats. The opponents within the Space Arena might as well have been regular trash mobs to him.

'The opponents aren't a problem, but the participation fee is.' He’d earned a lot of GP by stealing everything the Thunder God had, but he’d used a lot of that to buy fire-attribute items to increase his Dragon Flame stat.

"I guess I'll go to the Space Arena whenever I get a free voucher."

"How much is the participation fee?" Sae-ah asked.

"100 billion GP."

"GP…?"

"Yes. With the discount, it's 70 billion."

"Uncle, let's go with the free option," Sae-ah quickly concluded when she heard the absurd participation fee.

JiHan nodded in agreement and closed the Space Arena window. There was another new selection below it that he looked at next.

[Battle Net Community]

It was a function that was locked to humanity before and had only appeared after he cleared the fifth game of the Space Arena match. "Do you have the ‘Battle Net Community’ selection available?" he asked Sae-ah.

"What's that?"

"Open your system window."

"I don't have it."

It looked like he was the only one who’d unlocked the function.

'I'll have to check it out.'

He selected the ‘Battle Net Community’ option.
