Chapter 59

Another five months passed.

Yeon-ji was not nine-years-old. She stood in front of me all grown up, perhaps thanks to the effect of the elixir.

She quickly reached the lower level of a Sword Expert, but it must have been quite difficult to go beyond that. That was why she just recently reached the intermediate level and clashed swords with me.

Soon enough, the electric attribute aura sparked over her sword.

Yeon-Ji, who had secretly stolen my swordsmanship and created one of her own, had grown much more than before and could fight against me.

Moreover, thanks to wallowing around with monsters every day, she  learned to use any means necessary if it meant winning. She fought me as a half-dragon and even used Breath.

However, she faced the same result. Another defeat.

I kicked away Yeon-Ji, who was grinding her teeth and burning full of fighting spirit, and told her to come back tomorrow. Then, I turned away.

One year later.

Ten-year-old Yeon-Ji was at the advanced level of a Sword Expert in terms of swordsmanship alone.

However, compared to that, the progress of her aura was so slow that it was safe to say it became stagnant. Maybe that was why she was full of anger nowadays.

She was annoyed all the time and was giving the helpers a hard time.

I watched her for a bit and rubbed my chin, deep in thought. I realized one thing.

‘Puberty. Maybe she's at that stage.’

It was early for a ten-year-old to be in puberty, but Yeon-Ji was different from normal children.

She was constantly taking the elixir that helped her grow.

As evidence of that, Yeon-Ji was a fair bit bigger than kids her age.

Just like her quick physical growth, it could mean that puberty had come a bit quicker for her, too.

She loses to me every day, so her pride is crushed. Not to mention her growth rate slowed. That should build onto the stress.

“How troublesome.”

I also went through puberty, so I know that children at this age can get irritated by anything and everything.

‘Then, should I give her a stress reliever? I felt like she was getting tired of losing to me everyday as well.’

I looked around to see if there was anything suitable, and I found out that a dragon tournament was held every year in Dragonis, the capital of this world.

The event date is also nearing, so it could also give her a chance to see the levels of her peers. Thinking that it was a good idea, I called out to Yeon-Ji.

“Hey, kid.”

“Don’t you ever get tired of calling me a kid?”

Yeon-Ji, who had been going against me, lost the strength in her legs and collapsed to the ground.

“There is a tournament in which dragons compete against each other. The date is closing in. Go there and win.”

After listening to me, Yeon-Ji stood up while dusting herself off.

“Why all of a sudden?”

“A good chance to know your level and it’s about time you go around and take a breather.”

Yeon-Ji grumbled and grabbed her sword again and glared at me.

“Everything is meaningless until I beat you.”

With that, Yeon-Ji, who was tossed around by me again today, left the house with me the next day.

* * *

“Run with your aura still activated. Don’t even think about riding something comfortable like a carriage.”

“What are you gonna do if I arrive first?”

“There’s absolutely no way that’s going to happen, so just don’t lose your way out there.”

Saying that, we started heading toward Dragonis in a rather engaging and interesting way.

Normally, it would take a week if you rode a carriage, and it would take another month if you walked.

However, we started running with bodies strengthened by aura and covered that distance in just three days. By the time we arrived at Dragonis, Yeon-Ji was rolling on the ground, half-dead.

I entered a hotel with Yeon-Ji, filled a bathtub full of warm water, and poured a potion that restores one’s physique.

I took off her clothes, since she was completely exhausted, and left her in the bathtub. I waited as I ordered food.

“Still got a long way to go. A very long way.”

For your information, we didn’t sleep for those three days.

Funny enough, this wasn’t something I enforced, it was the result of Yeon-Ji’s self-imposed actions.

While I was taking a good amount of rest, she was the one who decided to run non-stop to get here before me, which led to this situation.

Of course, Yeon-Ji lost in the end.

‘Have I raised her to be a bit ignorant?’

Survival of the fittest. When hunting monsters, she eats and sleeps without any outside help while developing stamina and reflexes that are advantageous for her survival.

Perhaps that was why Yeon-Ji’s thought process was a bit ignorant.

For her, she had always believed that power was always in the right, and that the body grows whenever pushed to its limit.

Thanks to that, she showed rapid growth, but I am worried about the future for many reasons.

“No. No! Why the heck would I be worried about her future.”

I just want Yeon-Ji to get stronger, so why worry?

When the food arrived, I started eating and waited for Yeon-Ji to come out.

Soon enough, the door opened.

Her hair had grown long and it was cascading down from her head. As soon as she exited the bathroom, she shook the water off her hair like a dog.

Then she dragged her body over and sat in front of me to eat the food.

I couldn’t bear to watch the water dripping onto the floor any longer, so I brought over a towel and wiped down Yeon-Ji’s head and body.

Yeon-Ji ate without a care in the world and filled her growling stomach, which was her priority. After a while, she immediately laid down on the bed probably due to a full stomach and was about to enter a food coma.

“Get dressed. I’m sure you won’t catch a cold, but I can’t handle the sight.”

She pouted but still put on some clothes.

As if she had regained all her stamina, she sat down and spoke.

“So when is the competition?”

“We arrived earlier than scheduled, so two days later.”

“What am I going to do in the meantime?”

“Well, won’t it be the same as usual? Get beat up, pass out, sleep, and repeat.”

“How stupid.”

“In my opinion, you’re the most ignorant.”

“I’m not ignorant!”

Yeon-Ji fumed while I just shrugged my shoulders and laid down on the bed.

Yeon-Ji looked at me quietly from the chair before she came next to me and laid down, using my chest as a pillow.

“You’re heavy. Go away.”

“I’m not heavy. I’m super light.”

“Don’t be childish. Before I beat you up.”

At my words, Yeon-Ji shook her head wildly against my chest.

Finally, after earning a hit on the head, Yeon-Ji obediently went to lay down on her own pillow, looked up at the ceiling, and asked.

“Hey.”

“What.”

“Why are you looking after me?”

At the sudden question, I glanced at Yeon-Ji.

I thought she never thought anything of it, but looks like she knew I was helping her.

The reason? To clear the Floor.

But that’s probably not the answer this kid wanted.

‘I’ll give you the answer you want.’

Maybe it was because we’ve been seeing each other everyday for nearly two years, but it seems like she was feeling quite attached to me.

“Because you are my daughter.”

When I gave her the answer she probably wanted, Yeon-Ji looked at me with a puzzled expression.

“Is there a dad in the world who doesn't call his daughter by her name at least once?”

“In my eyes, you will still be a kid even when you’re a hundred years old.”

“I said I’m not a kid. You see me everyday, but don't you know how much I’ve grown?”

“It’s it more strange if I see you everyday and notice the changes? Usually those things are noticed by people who meet occasionally.”

Yeon-Ji grumbled despite my logical explanation.

Still, the answer must’ve been to Yeon-Ji’s liking. She wriggled around under the blanket, but suddenly stood up and shouted.

“I want to spar.”

She recovered all the stamina she lost over the past three days?

After agreeing, I got up and immediately started sparring with Yeon-Ji.

And two days later, the day of the competition arrived.

* * *

Since I had already registered her, all we had to do was leisurely get to the venue on time.

I left the hotel with Yeon-Ji.

Afterwards, when we arrived at the competition venue, I asked Yeon-Ji to make sure she had all the equipment.

“Sword?”

“Can’t you see? I have it.”

“Towel?”

“I have it.”

“Elixir?”

“You saw me drink it for breakfast. Why are you bothering me so much today?”

No, I just ended up asking this and that because I felt uneasy about something.

Yeon-Ji waved her hand, telling me to stop. Before we knew it, it was her time to go with the participants who were being called.

Yeon-Ji was scheduled to take the youth test for children aged 8-15, so she headed to the place where the young dragons were.

As soon as her name was called, Yeon-Ji was about to walk away without a look back, so I called out to her.

“Kid.”

Yeon-Ji turned her head to look at me.

“Go and win.”

“Obviously. You don’t have to tell me twice.”

When I saw Yeon-Ji smirk, I wondered where on earth all that confidence came from.

Afterwards, Yeon-Ji walked to the waiting area with the young participants.

I was thinking if I should have said something more, but I soon realized that she would do well on her own.

“Your daughter must be participating.”

I suddenly heard a voice from next to me.

I turned to see a woman standing there with a kind smile on her face.

“Ah, yes.”

“You must feel anxious after sending your child to participate in a competition. Worried that she may drop out and be disappointed, or that she will be nervous in front of crowds. Maybe that’s why there are quite a few parents who hang around here because they can’t forget the last glimpse of their children’s back as they enter the competition.”

I wasn’t really here for such reasons.

“You must be happy to see your little kid already complaining that she wants to do things alone, but at the same time, sad.”

Then, she covered her mouth and laughed, saying to herself, ‘it’s all like that,’ and walked away.

I looked dumbfounded at her behavior. I just thought of her as being nosy and headed toward the stands.

As the youth participants’ preliminary matches went by one by one, I watched silently.

“Next preliminaries, Ha Yeon-Ji vs. Syndrane.”

The moment the host called out these participants, Yeon-Ji stood up quickly from the waiting area.

She looked quite nervous, but Yeon-Ji raised her aura once, took a breath, and calmed herself down.

After that, she hastened and jumped up onto the stadium with her tiny feet and immediately faced her opponent.

Her opponent was a 13-year-old male dragon.

Maybe it was thanks to the elixir, but there wasn’t much difference in his physique compared to Yeon-Ji’s.

“When the magic ball next to you gives a signal, the match begins.”

When the two people nodded, the host came down from the stadium.

The number engraved on the magic ball floating in the sky of the stadium slowly counted down, and when it hit zero, the ball issued a loud sound signaling the start of the match.

Ha Yeon-Ji First Form—

Lightning Sword Gust.

That was Yeon-Ji’s self-created sword technique after seeing my Lightning Sword Extraction.

Her sword was like lightning.

The sword pulled out at high speed could not cut off the opponent’s head, but the overwhelming speed and sound that exceeds the opponent’s perception could make them faint in an instant

Syndrane quickly grabbed his spear, but he was directly hit by the lightning that erupted from Yeon-Ji’s sword, causing his eyes to roll back.

Then, she tilted her body forward and Yeon-Ji immediately kicked off while releasing aura to her sword.

Ha Yeon-Ji Second Form—

Inflamed Lightning Blast.

Lightning aura along with flames wrapped around her sword.

Although the sword wasn’t as fast as the speed of light, the swift sword aimed right at Syndrane’s neck.

“Stop.”

At that moment, the host blocked Yeon-Ji’s sword with his thumb and index finger.

The host, who was of the same dragon race, was at the Sword Master level, so he was skilled enough to block Yeon-Ji’s sword.

When Yeon-Ji withdrew her sword in response to his order, the host checked Syndrane’s condition and extended his hand toward Yeon-Ji.

“Ha Yeon-Ji wins.”

From the first time he was hit directly by Yeon-Ji’s lightning sword, there was no chance of victory for Syndrane.

Yeon-Ji, who didn’t think she would win this easily, looked around puzzled. She looked around as if searching for someone and found me.

When our eyes met, I looked at her as if she wanted a compliment.

She frowned, shook her head, and returned to her seat.

“Didn’t you say she’s ten this year?”

“Incredible. Her aura was at the Sword Expert level, right? She’s a genius. What if my child has to go against her?”

Saying a Sword Expert level was a genius, those guys still had a long way to go as well.

“Still, doesn’t she look a bit ignorant? One of the dragon races must be upholding nobility.”

I frowned at the unpleasant words I heard.

“Hey, just now, who said that?”

I released my voice filled with aura.
