Chapter 57

Although she was reckless, she swung well as if her experience from winning the Youth Swordsmanship Competition was not a lie.

It seemed the helpers taught her. Seems they weren’t totally useless.

As I was thinking that while watching her sword skills, a fireball shot out of Yeon-Ji's hand and burned the slime.

I wondered if there was a need to use magic on a slime but the slime died from that blow.

Yeon-Ji clenched her fists and checked how much strength she had left before moving her gaze elsewhere.

The spot her eyes were directed to was a forest where monsters could pop out from.

Yeon-Ji began moving toward that place without hesitation and I also followed her into the depths of the forest.

We walked for a while.

I sensed a good number of footsteps close to the aura I’d surrounded us with.

Child-sized steps and a harsh voice. It was goblins.

After a good while passed, it seemed Yeon-Ji also heard the goblins as her ears raised and she carefully approached.

Yeon-Ji’s eyes spotted three goblins lighting a bonfire and cooking some mice.

It seemed it wasn’t her first encounter with this kind of monster. Yeon-Ji’s movements were cautious, and instead of using her sword, she began casting magic.

Soon after, a fireball shot forth.

The magic hit the head of a goblin sitting peacefully at the fire, and Yeon-Ji moved before the others recovered from their surprise.

Yeon-Ji cut into a goblin that hadn’t properly understood the situation with her sword.

It was shallow.

Even if she handled magic well, that wasn’t the case for aura. Her sword only cut a bit into the goblin’s chest.

In the meantime, another raised its bow.

Yeon-Ji didn’t seem to notice this and remained focused on the goblin in front of her. Seeing this, I shot some aura at the bow-wielding goblin.

Squeak!

The goblin was startled, dropping its bow and arrow and crouching on the spot. It covered its head and trembled.

The other goblin whose head was burned by the fireball was kept from moving via my aura, allowing Yeon-Ji to have a one on one.

‘As expected, she’s still just a child. She doesn’t care about her surroundings at all. It was good judgment to send the fireball first, but it seems she also copied that from someone else.’

It seemed like she hadn’t yet learned how to properly finish monsters off.

Meanwhile, Yeon-Ji was desperately wielding her sword while facing the goblin.

The height of Yeon-Ji and the goblin were similar.

At first, the goblin couldn’t approach Yeon-Ji hastily, but it soon realized its opponent’s swordplay was a mess and began to avoid the attacks while seeking an opportunity.

“No.”

But there was no way I would just let that happen so I spread my aura over to the goblin.

The goblin, hit directly with my aura, stiffened for a moment before Yeon-Ji’s sword once again cut into his chest.

Squeak?!

The goblin’s stiffened body was only released after his chest was cut. He swung the blunt weapon recklessly, as if displaying his anger toward Yeon-Ji.

It nearly hit her, but I prevented the goblin from moving each time.

After a long time, the goblin’s face had turned white. Struck by Yeon-Ji’s sword, he collapsed a final time.

Yeon-Ji was breathing heavily in an exhausted state, having finally defeated the goblin. She raised her sword high into the sky to celebrate her victory.

Where did she learn that from?

‘But right now, it's better to build confidence. I'm here even if she does anything dangerous.'

Thinking that, as I released the bow-wielding goblin, I sensed something in the spread-out aura and immediately turned my eyes toward it.

The steps that were rushing this way seemed to have recognized the situation.

‘Annoying.’

Leaving behind Yeon-Ji, who took a breath before rushing to hunt the remaining goblin, I turned to the one caught in my aura’s senses.

Soon, I arrived to see a hobgoblin swiping at the grass. Their head was bigger than a human’s.

Crack!

Making a sound of clear hostility, the hobgoblin seemed to be the master of those goblins Yeon-Ji faced. It swung a blunt iron weapon at me.

“Be quiet.”

I immediately hit the Hobgoblin on the head with my hand.

The hobgoblin’s head bounced away, saying goodbye to its body.

Was it about level 20 or so? If Yeon-Ji faced it, she could’ve died.

‘That's why the helpers were always following her.’

They probably didn't have to this time because I followed her instead.

While thinking that, I returned to Yeon-Ji.

Like an experienced hunter, Yeon-Ji cut off the ears of the goblins and placed them in her pocket before wiping her forehead.

“I'll put goblin ears on him when he sleeps.”

She’s trying to do something nasty.

I thought about kicking her butt, but I let her be and just secretly followed her.

Yeon-Ji beat monsters she’d faced before as if taking out the anger of losing to me and soon collapsed on the ground once she ran out of stamina.

She took off her shoes and massaged her small feet, but soon got up and left the forest.

Still, she seemed to be properly aware of the limitations of her body.

‘Thanks to this, I learned a few things, especially concerning what this kid lacks. Above all else, I think she needs to learn how to handle aura…’

Around that time, Yeon-Ji returned to the village and came to a stop in front of an alley.

“Come out.”

I paused for a moment, thinking she’d sensed me.

But after a while, some boys appeared before her and I realized that wasn’t the case.

The boys fell to one knee before Yeon-Ji, as if she was their master.

“Miss Yeon-Ji, here is today’s payment.”

“I don’t need that. Rather than that, you guys should fight me.”

“Fight?”

The children, looking confused, soon became Yeon-Ji's swordsmanship opponents.

Having started the sword fight with the boys, Yeon-Ji soon knocked everyone down.

Seeing that she won easily despite putting all her energy into hunting monsters for the day, the kids of her age seemed to be no match for Yeon-Ji at all.

“A-As expected of Miss Yeon-Ji, there's no way we can win. You are the winner of the Youth Swordsmanship Competition.”

“What’s the point? I can’t do anything with that.”

She seemed to be thinking of me as she wore a resentful expression and stomped on the ground.

Most children tended to look down on adults.

Yeon-Ji must’ve felt the same.

“All of you come at me at once.”

“Uh, is that okay?”

“What do you take me for? Even considering the monsters I hunted today, a few of you are nothing!”

When Yeon-Ji frowned at the words of the surprised child, the others faltered but raised their model swords.

As everyone rushed at her, Yeon-Ji used her swordsmanship to knock them down one after another.

Of course, as the number of opponents was large, she often got hit but she endured it and knocked them all down.

Only then did Yeon-Ji bid the children farewell and head toward the mansion, feeling a little refreshed.

Looking at her back, I returned to the mansion before Yeon-Ji and searched for a suitable place.

“Hey, Yeon-Ji's room is over there, right?”

“Yes, that's right.”

Having verified the location of Yeon-Ji’s room, I found the place she could see best from the window of her room and then moved to the garden.

Glancing at the window, I picked up the Heavenly Star Sword.

Slowly, aura began to come out of the sword. I began to swing it as I had done before when I learned the way of the sword.

Shortly after returning to her room, Yeon-Ji heard sounds coming from the garden and looked out the window.

Whenever I swung my sword, Yeon-Ji’s eyes followed. She watched without even thinking of hiding her presence.

'Yes, yes. If there’s someone in front of you that’s much more skilled, you should naturally think of stealing what they know.'

Yeon-Ji would never do it if I tried to teach her myself.

It would be a good thing if she didn't rebel.

But if she was just looking it was a different story.

She must be thinking of taking revenge on me. But above all, Yeon-Ji was interested in swordsmanship enough to win first place in the Youth Swordsmanship Competition. She’d want to peek at my swordsmanship even more.

This was enough for now.

Once I’d practiced to some extent, Yeon-Ji quickly lowered her head and hid when I glanced toward the window.

I gave her an opportunity.

If I showed this much, she’d peek again next time.

'It'll take some time, but this is fine for now. I'm glad she’s interested in swordsmanship.'

After checking for the hidden Yeon-Ji, I wiped the sweat from my cheeks and walked inside.

“Helper.”

As soon as I called, a helper suddenly appeared next to me and I strolled down the hall as I spoke to her.

“Tell me how Yeon-Ji has grown over the past eight years.”

“Yes, as much as you like.”

I finally decided to hear how Yeon-Ji grew up while I was away.

* * *

After hearing all about Yeon-Ji's growth from the helper, I looked at Yeon-Ji, who had fallen asleep quickly because of her furious activity today.

I was away from the house for eight years, as I expected.

As a result, all the villagers living near the mansion felt sorry for Yeon-Ji and I became a bastard that didn't raise my daughter properly.

‘I seem to be in the same position as the lord of this town.'

I didn't care how anyone else looked at me.

The problem was Yeon-Ji.

Yeon-Ji, who had been cheerful on the outside, seemed to have suffered in her own way because I had been away for eight years.

Parents are everything to a child.

It was empty for Yeon-Ji for eight years.

Her anger was probably much deeper than I thought, and as I expected, Yeon-Ji would never recognize me as her father in the future.

‘As expected, it was right to take this route.’

It was way too late for me to be a parent.

If so, I thought it would be best to be Yeon-Ji's rival and teacher.

‘From now on, when Yeon-Ji sleeps or when she doesn't have to be with me, I'll definitely use the time-out function.’

This will save as much time as possible.

The problem was that if I did this, I’d be doing it in a Spartan way.

“Shit, whatever. I have to take it into consideration for at least a few months to pass.”

Thinking so, I decided to look elsewhere this time.

I had yet to see what authority or rewards were paid through clearing the last Floor as well as the Constellation’s baptism.

That's why I wanted to check it out first.

“I'll receive the rewards of Floor 29.”

[Soruene’s Elixir has been given as a reward for clearing Floor 29.]

At that moment, I had an elixir in my hand.

After touching the elixir for a while, I checked the effects and rubbed my chin.

The effects of Soruene’s Elixir were simple.

By drinking it, your experience would be higher while the effect lasted.

The duration was only an hour, but as it recovered after a day, it was a kind of infinite potion.

'How lucky. I didn't expect this to come out in such a timely manner. Well, naturally, it’s useless to me.'

But it was a suitable elixir for Yeon-Ji.

‘Yeah, come to think of it, I forgot elixirs existed. In this regression, I didn't need to pay them any attention.'

Thinking that, I looked toward Yeon-Ji.

Just hunting monsters and gaining experience was one method, but feeding her an elixir would also affect the raising of her stats.

‘Let's make her as strong as possible.’

With that thought, I figured I should collect information on the elixirs that existed on this Floor from the helpers.

Turning to my status window next, I looked at the authority of Floor 29’s ‘Indolent Pleasure’, Sinful Negligence.

“What is this?”

Looking at it, my head tilted to the side.
