THE S-CLASS HUNTER DOESN’T WANT TO BE A VILLAINOUS PRINCESS

Chapter 53

“My goodness, you’re an angel today, My Lady!”

“The smile of the saintess, face of an angel, and the dignity of the imperial princess.”

“I guess you can’t hide royalty, after all. All I can say is that the Makius family did it again…”

Renee barely managed to hold down her nausea.

“Oh, how I wonder what it would be like to be born that perfect!”

What’s it like? I really want to go home. I am home, but I want to go home. I want to stop this capitalist smile.

[The nobles praise your beauty and grace. Zero expectation leads to great surprises!]

[You have obtained 50 renown!]

[Current renown: -144]

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> coaxes you to bear with it just for today!]

And I’m saying, why do I have to act like a clown! Renee grumbled in her mind. No one would utter a word to her if she just showed the slightest frown.

[The <Temptation Monarch> scolds you and reminds you that you want to raise your renown and complete the quest sooner!]

I mean, I know I have to raise my renown stats…

She glanced at Isir, who stood next to her, his usual arrogant smirk replaced with a robotic smile.

All right. The imperial prince is smiling, then so should I. They say good fortune comes to those who laugh…

“Cin ve go sit sunwhir in git sunthin to dink,” Renee whispered to Isir through clenched teeth, her ventriloquism barely intelligible.

Can we go sit somewhere and get something to drink? Please??

All this attention is so irritating that I just want to explode. I completely understand how my little Renee feels right now, you know.

“I see.” Isir’s voice was warm yet just loud enough for everyone to hear. “Ah, Renee. Were you thirsty? You should have told me sooner.”

That bastard. He’s doing this on purpose. He’s acting like he’s the male lead that’s cold to everybody but his woman!!

“What would you like? I’ll bring you anything you want.”

Barf.

“Just act like you always have, Your Highness.”

“But I am.”

Bastard… he’s not an easy opponent at all.

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> clicks her tongue at Isir Von Ramdisha’s stubbornness!]

[The <Temptation Monarch> learns a lesson from Isir Von Ramdisha!]

Don’t learn this crap. Renee looked away, repulsed by his brazenness.

Isir, undeterred, wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer. If she tilted her head even slightly, she’d touch his chin.

“Have you lost your mind, Your Highness?”

“You’re the one who was strict about the contract.”

“This is for your personal means, not business.”

“You’re right, it is personal. Whatever you say, Princess.”

This stubborn bastard. Renee wondered if Isir’s face was made of steel.

“Forget it. It’s my fault for getting involved with you.”

I need to find Sedin. None of this feels okay after letting him leave like that.

Quickly, she activated her senses, scanning the crowd.

Ah, there he is. She turned toward him with anticipation, but her smile tightened.

“Here is your champagne, my lady.”

“T-Thank you, sir.”

The woman standing next to Sedin looked like the perfect match. Everything about her exuded elegance—the complete opposite of Renee. While Renee had to mask her natural sloppiness consciously, this woman radiated warmth and shyness effortlessly.

Wow. I’d have a crush on someone like that if I were Sedin.

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> denies that you would love anybody!]

Back at it with the jabs. Renee furrowed her brows.

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> refutes that she still likes her little Yi-young!]

Hmph, that’s all? She turned away with a huff.

With the <Evil Blood Lord> absent, the <Queen of Tides and Remedy> had taken over most of the chat. Renee didn’t mind—she’d always liked her—but even she could be annoying sometimes.

“Oh.”

Just then, Marie accidentally spilled her glass of champagne on Sedin. She frantically tried to wipe it off with her handkerchief.

Renee, cursed with perfect vision, spotted the delicate embroidery on it.

Hm. I probably would have asked Water Girl to clean it for me… Even when I think about it… she’s more lovable…

I don’t wanna look anymore.

“It’s all right, my lady. As long as it didn’t get on you.”

A lovely, elegant lady and a handsome, reliable Sedin—they were undoubtedly a great pair. Even those around them had content smiles.

Except for Renee.

Ughhh.

She rubbed her chest.

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> asks if you are feeling unwell.]

It’s weird. I feel a little stuffy, like my heart is getting squeezed and dunked in cold water. I can breathe, but every time I do, it feels like the air is getting blocked by hot charcoal.

Could this be…

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> perks her ears.]

A cardiac infarction?

[The <Temptation Monarch> asks just where did things go wrong for you.]

What did I do? Renee retorted with a shrug.

She turned back to look at Sedin. They’re such a disgustingly perfect pair I can’t even intervene.

[The <Temptation Monarch> asks if you’re going to knock out that woman!]

I mean… well. If I knock her out, it already looks like Sedin would carry her home himself.

Renee timidly played with her fingers.

I can’t get in the way of my good student’s future. Isn’t it a mentor’s virtue to congratulate their happiness?

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> conjures a hurricane out of bewilderment!]

[The <Temptation Monarch> blows on the hurricane to calm it!]

I mean, well… I’m already meant to leave anyway. I can’t make my Sedin cry…

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> complains that you are acting weird!]

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> chokes on water.]

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> wells up in tears, asking if you are sick and reminding you that we did not raise you like this!]

Never having seen the <Queen of Tides and Remedy> this aggressive before, Renee faltered.

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> asks if you really have learned nothing from watching her have a crush.]

Learn?

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> asks if you remember getting mad at her for being too good to like that bastard.]

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> complains that she cannot stand this any longer, as the sight of you makes her eyes flood!]

Okay, okay, Renee muttered, half-heartedly trying to calm the constellation. She sighed and settled into a seat at the side of the room.

The party was packed. That was the duke’s influence for you.

“So, what’s your plan for today?”

“My plan?” Renee echoed.

“Yes. Are you just going to let this slide?” Isir asked, his disbelief blatant.

Take a look at that level of mistrust… Renee thought as she shrugged.

“Ante hasn’t even arrived yet. Let’s just enjoy the party for now.”

“Is it something you can’t tell me?”

Renee glanced up at him. It’s not like him to act pitiful.

“Do you want to disrupt Ante’s business?”

“Yeah.”

“Why?”

“...Because he’s sniping what’s yours. Are you not angry?”

Angry...? She pondered for a moment, then stole a glance at the duke.

“I am.”

“Then you are you holding back?”

Isir plucked two glasses of wine from a passing servant and handed one to Renee.

“I have the power to give you everything you want. Why aren’t you using it?”

“That’s your power.”

He looked at her, slightly confused.

“It’s yours, not mine,” she said, downing the wine in one gulp. “I don’t want to rely on anybody.”

“You can.”

“Even if I do, I don’t want to rely on you.”

Renee tapped on her glass, refilling it effortlessly with magic. Isir’s eyes widened slightly.

“...Your magic is always a wonder.”

“This is nothing.”

[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> sniffles at your comment!]

I mean, but this magic really is nothing to you…

“Hold on.”

“What?”

“They say those who rise with their words fall from their words.”

Liars are bound to self-destruct. Renee smiled sourly.

“It doesn’t have to be today…”

But he will collapse someday. She had no reason to rush. Karma strikes harder the longer it waits.

“Plus, haven’t we already ruined the duke’s objective?” Renee flashed her first bright smile since entering the party.

Isir’s cheeks flushed red.

“Huh, are you drunk? You’re red.”

“...I am not weak.”

You’re just too strong. Isir condemned himself internally for losing control.

“You’re right, though. No one here seems to think of the young lord as the center of this party,” he said, scanning the room.

That was true. Not a single soul was waiting for Ante’s arrival. All eyes were fixed on Renee and Isir instead.

That alone must have tormented the duke—after all, he’d spent a fortune on this party, only for someone else to steal the spotlight.

“And that is all thanks to you.”

“Me?”

Is it? Renee shrugged.

“Everyone just wants to talk to you, not me.”

“Sometimes, you’re very…”

“Very?” Renee raised a brow at his critical tone.

“...Slow at times.”

“Slow?! I’m a very fast reader.”

I was always the first to know where a knife was flying from in my past life!

“It’s odd.”

“What’s odd?”

“That someone like you… doesn’t know herself very well.”

“I do know myself.”

“No, you don’t.”

Isir reached forward, gently tucking a loose strand of silver hair behind Renee’s ear.

“You wouldn’t say that if you did.”

Everyone here is looking at you and only you.

“But it certainly makes me glad that I know you better than you do.”

For the first time, Isir smiled—genuinely.
