Chapter 41
“Sedin Ansirad.”
[You have selected Sedin Ansirad!]
“Renee…?”
[Loading…]
[Your favorability for Sedin Ansirad has been set!]
***
They say anxiety steals your breath away.
Renee inhaled deeply, feeling its weight pressing against her chest. The system window hovered before her, brimming with information, but she couldn’t bring herself to look. A failure now meant no return to the world she came from.
Someone check for me! Ugh, this is exactly how I felt when I was waiting for my civil service exam results.
She clenched her fists, fighting the urge to bite her tongue.
[The <Evil Blood Lord> urges you to check!]
[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> covers her eyes!]
[The <Temptation Monarch> gasps for breath!]
What are you gasping for? Tsk. These constellations are no help.
Finally, she forced herself to open the quest window.
[Quest Cleared!]
[Tower Trial – 2nd Floor Cleared!]
Clear Condition: Surpass 100 favorability upon viewing your stats for the candidate of your choice.
Clear Reward: Clear the 2nd floor of the Tower.
[The <Evil Blood Lord> urges you to speak if you know what the results are!]
I— the thing is…
I passed… but….
Renee stared blankly at the window.
Just what is my favorability then?! Do I like him or not? Why are they hiding the most important part?!
[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> consoles you, saying at least you passed.]
[The <Temptation Monarch> feels equally relieved and disappointed!]
“Is there something wrong, Renee? Please say something, anything— I’m getting scared.”
Oh, whoops. Renee turned back to Sedin. This whole thing is so baffling I forgot about you for a second.
“Sorry, nothing’s wrong. I think I’m just a bit tired.”
“You have been pushing yourself for the past few days.”
Sedin carefully placed his hand on her forehead as if checking for a fever. Renee simply stared into his radiant green eyes, momentarily lost.
“You know, Sedin.”
“Yes, Renee?”
“Have you ever liked someone before?”
“Pardon...?”
For the first time, Sedin faltered.
“What are you supposed to do if you want to know how you feel about someone?”
“Have you… never liked anybody before?”
“I don’t know.”
“I’m sorry?”
Even if I did, it was too long ago. I don’t remember. Renee lowered her head. I haven’t had feelings for anybody for at least two centuries.
“You’re pale.”
Sedin took her hand and guided her to the bench beside him. He draped his coat over her shoulders without hesitation, though they both knew the cold wouldn’t faze her.
“Take a seat, Renee.”
She obeyed, feeling too drained to resist.
“Is this important to you?” he asked, voice gentle. “Figuring out your feelings for someone. Is that what you’re looking for?”
Is it? What I’m looking for is… a way back home.
The only way out was through the system, and that system was forcing her to fall in love.
So sure, he’s not wrong.
“Right now it is.”
Sedin’s gaze dropped to the ground, his expression unreadable. Renee held her breath.
“I’m not sure, either,” he admitted.
The answer she had been waiting for... felt like nothing.
“Huh?” She blinked in defiance.
Sedin gave her a soft smile as if silently asking for her forgiveness.
“I’ve never given it much thought, either,” he said.
He knelt before her, the moonlight casting a glow over his features. Faith, affection— everything pure and good reflected in his eyes. Unlike her, whose heart seemed made of only the worst.
Why does he...? How, why... for me?!
The countless questions in her head drowned beneath the warmth of his presence.
“But I do know one thing.”
“And what is that...?”
“If you wish for the answer, I will find it for you.”
He lifted her hand to his lips, his gleaming eyes never leaving hers.
She always thought his gaze was strange.
“Whatever that may be.”
But oddly enough, in that moment, it comforted her.

“What do you mean you won’t share the dragon carcass with anybody, Your Highness?”
“Then what are you planning to do with it, Your Highness?”
Back at the ballroom, another form of chaos had erupted.
Incredible. I haven’t even been gone for that long. Renee observed from afar, exhaling in exasperation.
“You should conceal your energy, Sedin. Don’t get wrapped up in that mess.”
“As you wish, Renee.”
Sedin’s presence faded until even she could barely sense him. Satisfied, she turned her attention back to Isir.
There he stood, facing the crowd with a practiced, robotic smile.
“I understand it was a wild dragon,” he said evenly. “But a dragon is still a dragon. I’ve heard that great efforts are being made to protect the endangered species. Do you truly believe it’s in the empire’s best interest to provoke them further?”
Nice work. Renee nodded to herself. They had rehearsed this beforehand, but Isir was a natural.
The crowd hesitated, momentarily persuaded—but, of course, silence never lasted long in situations like this.
“But, Your Highness, what if more wild dragons appear in the future?” someone pressed. “You, Sir Sedin, and the other swordmaster may have stopped them this time, but there’s no guarantee that will always be the case.”
“He’s right! We must prepare! If we had artifacts made from the dragon’s scales and heart—”
“At the very least, tell us who the nameless swordmaster is!” another voice added urgently.
“The people of the empire deserve to know and will be at ease once they know!”
Ugh. Renee watched the rampant crowd in exhaustion. There were people like this, no matter what world she was in––using ‘public sentiment’ as an excuse to feed their own greed.
Yet they’re the ones who feed off of the innocent. She glanced back at Isir. Alright then, let’s see how you deal with this.
“I believe I already made it clear,” he said smoothly. “They have no interest in renown or attention.”
“Still—”
“They will come forth if they wish. Until then, I am respecting their choice, as they deserve to be treated as such.”
He’s more reliable than I thought. Renee was slightly taken aback by his composed response.
Just then, Isir’s gaze flickered upward, locking onto hers. Their eyes met—just for a brief moment—before he turned away.
What was that...? Did he just... look away from me?
“So I’d like to end this discussion here,” Isir continued, his voice final.
“Th-then, what are you planning to do with the wild dragon’s carcass?” an oblivious nobleman asked.
“I will be returning it.”
Gasps rippled through the room.
“Our anonymous hero has decided to return it themselves,” Isir added, his gaze sharp, a hint of amusement in his tone.
He’s provoking me. That’s gotta be it. I never said that!

As soon as things settled down, Renee headed to the Tower. The next floor was waiting.
[The <Evil Blood Lord> watches you in anticipation!]
Don’t look at me like that. It’s gross.
[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> blesses the entire world with the Water Blessing!]
Don’t waste it on something like this.
[The <Temptation Monarch> performs a courtship dance!]
You’re the biggest problem here.
She shut down the chat window. She knew exactly why they were so excited.
[Subquest – Reconnaissance]
The Tower—an infinite unknown—has appeared in this world.
But something about it feels different from the one you once knew.
Why not step inside and uncover its true nature?
Clear Condition: Clear the 3rd floor of the Tower.
Clear Reward: Acquire skill <Summon Constellation>.
The quest reward, of course. She let out a deep sigh.
One more floor, and she could summon a constellation.
Obviously, this is a good thing, but… why does this feel so off?
Not even in her past life had she received a reward like this. No matter how grand the quest, summoning a constellation was always off-limits.
What is this system thinking?
Renee never trusted the system. If they were giving her something this powerful, they had to be plotting something.
Or...
The third-floor quest must be insanely difficult. Harder than anything she had cleared before. Either way, I’m not looking forward to this.
With a resigned expression, she picked up the tombstone on the third floor.
Ring—!
[Tower Trial – 3rd Floor]
Your feelings for each of the male lead candidates vary greatly!
Though your feelings can’t be helped, that doesn’t mean theirs should remain uncertain! Moreover, you need to respect the original plot.
Clear Condition: Reach 600 favorability with Isir Von Ramdisha.
Clear Reward: Clear the 3rd floor of the Tower.
Failure: Fail to return to your original world.
[The <Evil Blood Lord> falls into despair.
[The <Queen of Tides and Remedy> falls into despair.]
[The <Temptation Monarch> falls into despair.]
Renee closed her eyes.
I knew this would happen.
