Chapter 192

What appeared before Leo’s eyes was a giant knight, standing 3 meters tall.

The wind spirit, clad in light silver-gray armor, wielded an axe and shield that matched its size.

Despite its heavy appearance, Leo and Lille both knew.

This spirit would surely move at them with astonishing speed.

Whooooosh-

As if on cue, the spirit charged at Lille with remarkable swiftness.

Clang-!

The axe swung with force, but Leo’s sword intercepted it.

Wooooooooooooooo--

A powerful gust scattered dust in all directions.

Leo, who had blocked the attack, felt his body strain against the fierce wind pressure.

Crunch-crunch-!

His feet dug into the ground.

Holding back the wind with his Aura, Leo grinned and applied more force to his sword.

Flutter-flutter-!

Flames from Leo’s Aura erupted from his sword.

Whooooosh-!

The flames intensified instantly, driven by the swirling wind.

As Leo manipulated his Aura, the flames engulfed the giant wind spirit.

Fwoo-fwoo-fwooosh-!

The flames surged and expanded rapidly.

Leo swung his sword, and the wind spirit, as if tethered by an invisible rope, was hurled to the ground.

“Excellent, Leo.”

Lille, impressed by the display, summoned a spirit of her own.

Flutter-

She called forth a fire spirit.

Although Lille was renowned for her works with wind spirits, she was also skilled with other elements.

During the Age of Disaster, multi-attribute spiritualists were rare.

However, in the current era, where the power of previous heroes could be inherited through the Hero Records, they had become more common.

Walden, the strongest spiritualist among the first-year students, controlled all four elemental spirits with ease.

Crash-crash-crash-crash-crash-

The ground reshaped itself, forming a dome that trapped the wind spirit.

A small hole opened in the earthen dome.

Lille placed the fire spirit within it.

Shiiiiiing-!

In an instant, Lille channeled her spiritual power.

‘Trait granting.’

This spirit technique temporarily imbued a spirit with an additional trait.

While it couldn’t bestow entirely unrelated traits, such as giving a water spirit a fire trait, it could enhance a spirit’s abilities within its own attribute.

‘The ability Lille granted was… an explosion.’

As soon as this thought crossed his mind—

The earth prison sealed completely.

Crash-!

A massive explosion erupted, sending chunks of earth flying.

Thudt-hud-thud-

Amid the shower of debris, the powerful wind spirit vanished without a trace.

‘She didn’t bring out a particularly powerful spirit.’

Leo marveled.

The fire and earth spirits Lille used were mid-level at best.

Even accounting for the synergy between the spirits, it was impressive that she could defeat a high-level wind spirit so easily.

“That’s amazing.”

“Fire needs air to burn,” Lille remarked passively. “Your flames were already burning, so I just sealed the space and caused an explosion.”

The wind spirit, unable to maintain its form, instantly disappeared.

‘Instantaneous judgment, good combat sense, and even a potent ability to control spirits. I see why Elena values her so much.’

As Leo admired Lille’s skills, Lille crossed her arms in frustration.

“How annoying! Surprise attacking us!”

Lille scanned the surroundings with a fierce expression.

“And the other party isn’t even holding back their killing intent.”

Lille’s voice was resolute, her spiritual power fully engaged.

They needed to prepare to summon a stronger spirit at any moment.

‘Elsie.’

[Did you call, Leo?]

‘A Great Spirit seems to be ruling over this area.’

[I see.]

‘Do you know how powerful a Great Spirit can be in its own domain?’

[Well, I’ve never created my own territory.]

Great Spirits shared one common power amongst themselves:

Domination.

The ability to control and subordinate lesser spirits.

Elsie, too, possessed this power but had never wielded it.

Being a young spirit born during the Age of Disaster, she lacked the time to amass power or establish a geographic domain.

‘So you don’t know the extent of its power. Then why is it fighting us?’

Rumble-rumble-rumble-!

At that moment, the ground began to tremble.

Earth spirits were being summoned.

“Huh? A spiritualist capable of summoning such powerful spirits continuously?”

Lille was taken aback.

“I think it’s best to retreat for now.”

Lille agreed without hesitation. “There’s no other choice.”

Leo and Lille, making a swift decision, left the Zerodia Castle Ruins.

After a while, once they had settled far from the castle, they noticed no more signs of pursuit.

“We were assigned to escort someone, but this interference is a bit embarrassing.”

Leo pondered Lille’s words.

‘Is the guest they were referring to a Great Spirit?’

It wouldn’t be surprising given Lumene’s influence, which might invite such beings to make requests.

‘But why are they attacking us?’

Leo was perplexed.

If the spirit was intent on harming them, it must be serious.

‘But for a Great Spirit, the attacks seem weak.’

It felt as if the spirit was merely testing their abilities.

‘I can’t tell what its true intentions are.’

Leo’s gaze narrowed as he studied the distant Zerodia walls, raising his sword.

Whew- Clang!

A sharp slash rang out.

Leo’s eyes followed the man who had appeared suddenly, sword in hand.

“Hoo.”

The man exclaimed as a massive war hammer struck his torso.

Clang-!

He barely evaded the blow.

Swish-!

Leo watched in astonishment as the battle hammer narrowly missed his nose.

The distance and trajectory revealed its precision, a testament to Lille’s control.

It was impressive how Lille, without being a knight, wielded the enormous hammer with such skill.

"Lille, you're not a Spirit Knight, are you?"

"Nope. I can’t handle Aura."

"But you wield a hammer effortlessly."

"It’s because of my military background. I’ve never neglected my combat training."

Leo understood why Elena and Hark referred to her as the Monster Girl.

With the combination of this battle hammer and spirit sorcery, Lille could easily excel on the front lines.

‘An all-rounder.’

A spiritualist capable of excelling in all roles: vanguard, rearguard, and supporter.

Crash-!

Lille glared at the man who attacked, slamming the hammer head on the ground.

“Who are you? Are you the spiritualist who attacked us?”

“Ah~ how fierce. So fierce. Kids these days are so sophisticated.”

The man shook his head and sheathed his sword.

He removed his hat and grinned.

“Who am I? If you look at my face, you should be able to recognize me.”

Leo, staring blankly at the man’s confident smile, asked, “Who are you?”

The man stumbled and exclaimed, “Hey! Don’t you recognize my face? I’m famous, you know! I’m always in the newspapers!”

“I only read the world news section.”

“You! Second-year class representative! Do you recognize me?!”

At that, Lille’s eyes widened before she gave an apologetic look.

"I'm sorry. I also only read the world news."

“You’re hero candidates, right? Shouldn’t you at least be aware of the prominent figures in the field? Or do you think you’re so advanced that you don’t need to? How arrogant! You should be making it your goal to surpass us!”

The man pounded his chest in frustration.

“My name is Jean Karron!”

“Huh! Knight of Undine?!”

Lille’s surprise was evident.

Undine.

The Great Spirit of the Deep Sea, the most powerful among the Great Spirits, ruling over the vast ocean.

Born a thousand years ago, she had not yet taken a contractor.

But a hero blessed by Undine was Jean Karron.

Jean, a Spirit Knight chosen by the noble Great Spirit, was known as the Knight of Undine.

He was a Lumene graduate whose name appeared in the Hero Records.

“Hello, Senior! I’m Lille Luche, a second-year at Lumene. It’s an honor to meet such a renowned hero.”

Lille quickly bowed, showing respect to someone so esteemed.

“Hmm! Yes, yes! That’s better.”

Jean folded his arms and nodded in satisfaction.

“So, an unprecedented all-class student council president in his first year. Have you heard of my reputation as your senior?”

“Can I be honest?”

“Yes, be honest. Show me the same respect as this kid.”

“I’ve never heard of you before.”

Jean’s face hardened as he saw Leo scratching his cheek.

“I don’t know much about the heroes of this era.”

“Oh, didn’t Ain tell you about me? I’m the only one among our classmates whose name is on the Hero Record!”

Jean and Ain had been classmates back in the day.

“Nope, never.”

Leo had never heard Ain mention this classmate.

Jean’s expression twisted, but he soon nodded.

“Well, Ain was voted the most likely to become a hero among us. Maybe he’s just jealous that I achieved it first.”

Leo observed Jean’s laughter, thinking, ‘… It seems more accurate to say that Professor Ain doesn’t care about him at all.’

He surely recognized the man before him as highly skilled.

But he also perceived him as a bit frivolous.

‘Did he decide we would have nothing to gain from knowing about him?’

Leo looked at Jean with mild pity.

Jean, feeling very proud, crossed his arms.

“Anyway, why were you two over there?”

“We received a mission.”

“A mission given to two first and second years. That’s impressive. What kind of mission was it?”

“I can’t disclose that,” Lille replied, keeping her guard up.

Even if Jean revealed his identity, it didn’t guarantee trustworthiness.

From Lille’s perspective, Jean remained suspicious.

“Oh, really. You kids are quite cautious,” Jean muttered to himself. “Your mission is related to the Zerodia Castle Ruins? I recommend you abandon it.”

“Why?”

“The Great Spirit currently occupies those ruins.”

Lille’s surprise was palpable.

Jean glanced at Leo.

‘Oh? Noticed, did you?’

Jean’s expression was meaningful.

‘Well, he’s the first-year student council president for a reason. Also a Phoenix contractor.’

Jean studied Leo with sharp eyes.

“The spirit that resides there is the Spirit of the Abyss.”

Lille flinched.

The Spirit of the Abyss.

The Great Spirit of Darkness in this era.

Like Undine, it still had no contractor.

“As you know, Undine is particular about her ‘preferences.’ That’s why she has no contractors, but the Spirit of the Abyss is different.”

Jean clicked his tongue.

“That spirit despises people.”
