Chapter 128
"Kyle?"
"Kyle was a real person?"
The students reacted with surprise.
The lecture hall quickly burst into commotion.
Until now, Kyle, the Hero of the Beginning, was the name of a character who only existed in fairy tales.
'Because there was no Hero Record left of his existence.'
Even a fictional character was very famous.
The name Kyle had been mentioned alongside other Great Heroes for thousands of years.
As such, in the field of heroics, extensive research had been conducted to trace the origin of Kyle.
However, due to the lack of evidence, Kyle’s existence was eventually dismissed.
Yet, in that context, the name Kyle was mentioned in Arron’s Hero’s World.
Artianne spoke up as the students buzzed.
"Calm down, everyone. Only the name was mentioned. Besides, it’s not yet known if this is the same person as the Hero of the Beginning."
The students quieted down at these words.
Then Chloe raised her hand.
"Yes, Chloe."
"What would happen if the 'Hero of the Beginning' were real?"
"That would turn the tables on heroics right now. There are Hero Record pages that we don't know who they belong to. They could be Kyle’s."
"Woooooooooah."
"Then one of the Great Heroes would’ve been human, right?"
The students were excited.
The five terrestrial races were humans, elves, beastmen, dwarves, and dragons.
Among them, only humans lacked a Great Hero to represent them.
Therefore, humans were often compared unfavorably to other races.
If Kyle existed, it would put humans on the same playing field as the other races.
"Of course."
The students looked at Artianne with bright eyes.
‘So this is how they all found out.’
Leo hadn’t been happy to have been forgotten.
Then Celia raised her hand.
"Professor, was Kyle really an all-class if he existed?"
"There's a good chance of that. And we all know it’s possible for an all-class to exist, seeing as we have an all-class in our school."
At Artianne’s words, all the students’ eyes turned to Leo.
For anyone else, it could have been a surprising experience to feel more than 300 sets of eyes on him, but Leo remained calm.
"What are you looking at?"
The students turned their attention back to Artianne.
"It’s true that Kyle has sparked interest in the heroics field. Many scholars studying heroics are heading to Azonia."
"What does it mean to be the Surviving Hero?"
"Even the person who’d gone into the Hero’s World doesn’t know much. Only the name was mentioned by a hero of the time. 'The Guardian of the Sky', who was Arron’s teacher."
"Arron had a teacher?"
"What…? Well, I guess that makes sense."
"I’m so jealous. Doesn’t that mean they must’ve met Arron?"
"Our first-year representative got to meet Lysinas."
Kyle’s page was opened right there during the first semester.
They all bore witness to their representative meeting Lysinas.
"So, in today’s lesson, we’ll learn about The Hero of the Beginning, Kyle. How much do you know about this hero? Does anyone know about Kyle’s key accomplishment?"
Everyone looked perplexed at Artianne’s question.
Kyle was no secret figure, but since he was often treated as fictional, the details were unknown to many.
Kyle's feat, frequently mentioned in fairy tales, seemed overwhelming.
But there was a student who had studied Kyle purely out of a love for fairy tales.
"Yes! The Hero of the Beginning's greatest feat was at the Battle of Dattephran against Commander Hell Kaiser!" Chelsea replied with her hand raised.
"That's correct. 10 points to Chelsea."
Chelsea clenched her fist in triumph.
Artianne commenced her lesson on Kyle.
The lesson began with an evaluation of Kyle’s legacy as seen from an academic standpoint and how his story might evolve in the future.
As a teacher of heroics at Lumene, Artianne presented a deeply engaging and thorough class.
All the students paid close attention.
Chelsea murmured, organizing her notes after the class ended and the break began.
"But why is he called the Surviving Hero?"
"Because he survived," Leo answered Chelsea’s question simply. "He survived many battles because of his strength."
Leo explained why Kyle was dubbed a surviving hero.
"Hmm! It seems very straightforward. I guess we could interpret it literally for now."
Chelsea nodded.
Leo leaned back, reflecting on the past.
‘Well, it's not my favorite nickname.’
At the time, it was a nickname tinged with contempt.
Before joining the team to subdue Erebos, Kyle had built a reputation by participating in numerous battles as a mercenary.
Many times, he returned alone amidst the chaos.
Initially, this was praised as remarkable, but after repeated occurrences, it came to symbolize misfortune to him.
‘Thanks to that name, all of my comrades are gone.’
Among them was Lysinas, once labeled a fool.
Leo, lost in thought, chuckled as he watched his classmates deeply engrossed in discussions about Kyle.
'I never imagined I’d be studying Kyle at Lumene.'
Of course, Leo had long desired this situation.
It seemed unfair that only his former colleagues were remembered for saving the world.
However, it felt strange to be studying the topic in class.
‘I'm surely the only one trying to pass on his feats to future generations.’
Leo sighed deeply, lamenting his situation.
All the students, exhausted from their first day of school, felt their brains turning back on again after the vacation.
"Ugh! I'm tired! I'm exhausted!"
After bathing together, Carr stretched and asked, "Leo, do you want to go eat?"
"No. I’m going to rest a bit early tonight."
"Really? Okay."
Carr nodded at Leo's words and headed to the cafeteria alone.
Back in his room, Leo took out Elsie from inside his necklace.
Elsie flew to the window, gazing up at the night sky with bright eyes.
It was one of Elsie’s daily routines to admire the night sky since coming to modern times.
"Elsie."
"Yes, Leo."
"Let me introduce you to my summons."
"Oh! You mean the Phoenix and the fairy you mentioned?"
"Yes. I’ve said this before, but don’t let them know that I’m Kyle."
Leo sighed as he thought about Fiora and Kiran and their playful natures.
There was no way the two summons would intentionally reveal Leo’s identity as Kyle to others.
However, due to their goofy personalities, he knew they might accidentally let it slip if they knew.
'Secrets should be shared only with those you trust.'
If it became known to Tartaros that Leo was Kyle’s reincarnation, it would be problematic.
If that happened, it was clear that he would be targeted before he could regain his full strength.
'Even if it must become known eventually, it should be after I’ve regained some of my power.'
With this in mind, Leo summoned Fiora and Kiran.
"In accordance with the contract, I command you, Fiora. Appear before me."
[Leo! You’re back!]
Fiora greeted him gracefully, bowing and curtsying with the hem of her skirt, while Kiran waved.
Then, when he spotted Elsie, he hesitated.
"Who is this?"
"It's another spirit that signed with me."
[My name is Elsie.]
When Elsie smiled softly and greeted him, Kiran burst into excitation.
[Are you new here? I'm Kiran. I'm the leader of Leo's summons]
"No, I'm the leader."
[Why are you the leader?]
"Because I was the first to sign with Leo."
Fiora looked as though it were only obvious.
[The leader is the most dignified and high-ranking summons of the group. Which would be me.]
"This fairy over here must be out of his mind. Please go ahead and think of me as the leader."
[You foul fowl!]
Leo sighed deeply as he watched the two grumbling.
In truth, the one who was actually the first to sign a contract with and the highest-ranking summons was none other than Elsie.
Fiora and Kiran were still children compared to the Great Spirit, who signed a contract with him in his previous life.
[They're some energetic kids.]
Elsie smiled broadly as if she liked the buzzy atmosphere.
Leo shook his head at Elsie, who was looking as though she were watching her little siblings’ antics.
"They’re not lively; they’re immature."
The students, having started classes today, were distracted.
However, the first years, who had already gone through some trials before that day, adapted to the workload without difficulty.
Major classes began after the common curriculum classes.
The first major class was none other than that of the sorcery department.
Along with Chelsea and Carr, Leo headed to a pre-announced training period.
"Training from the very first class? That's not like Professor Len."
Chelsea tilted her head.
Len was the kind of professor who valued the theory behind things.
Of course, that wasn’t to say he neglected to teach them how to implement that theory in the real world, but he held the strong opinion that sorcery was a field based on research and inquiry.
It was certainly unconventional for him to take the first class of the second semester at the training center.
The first years gathered at the training center and waited for Len.
Eventually, Len appeared with Anna, his assistant professor.
Len, who stood in the middle of the lab, smiled softly.
"How was your vacation?"
"Gooood."
"Professor Len! I missed you!"
Several schoolgirls greeted Len in a hushed voice.
Len was a particularly popular professor among girls because of his good looks and kind personality.
Of course, this sometimes caused problems, but his passion for sorcery was part of what made him so appealing.
Len, acknowledging the students' enthusiasm, announced, "I want you to submit your assignments from the vacation."
At that, the students handed their homework to him.
Anna organized the submitted reports and stored them in her subspace.
Meanwhile, Len seemed deep in thought.
"I spent a lot of time considering how to structure this class in the second semester."
The students looked puzzled by his statement.
"As you know, you’re generating a lot of buzz at the school level."
Len scanned the students as he spoke.
"In our first semester, I had high hopes for my students in the Majors Competition."
Emio raised his hand.
"During the Majors Competition, we first-year students subjugated a Gigantes together!"
It was only nine students who took down the Gigantes, but it was true that the effort of the entire first-year class contributed to the success.
So Emio emphasized that they 'together' achieved the feat.
"That’s correct. But it hasn’t proven the superiority of the Sorcery Department."
It was a collective achievement of the first year class, not specific to one department.
"And you know what else? The second, third, and fourth years of our department haven't fared well, either."
"What?"
"Wasn't the Sorcery Department neck and neck with the Knight Studies Department?"
Students who were sensitive about departmental rivalry looked confused.
Len crossed his arms, noting their reactions.
"Indeed, outside evaluations have been mixed."
Len’s eyes gleamed with determination.
"But first-year sorcery students haven’t beaten Seiren in the Lumeiren Battles in the last three years!"
The students flinched at his words.
"The sorcery professors decided they couldn’t endure the humiliation for a fourth consecutive year. So, for the second semester, we’ve prepared a class to prepare for the Lumeiren Battles."
The students were taken aback by Len’s announcement.
"Starting today, you will be learning 'Hero Sorcery.'"
