Chapter 123

The morning to return to Lumeria City.

Another guest had come to the Plov house.

"Yaaaawn. Leo! Good morning."

"What? Chelsea, why are you here?"

"Huh?"

Chelsea, still yawning, blinked awake and saw Celia talking to Leo. She crossed her arms and pouted.

"I came to your house to hang out, of course! Leo, how long has she been here?"

"About a month?"

"You've been here a month? That’s so shameless."

"What does it matter to you? You-!"

"Hey!"

Leo rolled his eyes as he watched the two girls bicker right away.

"When are you going to grow up?"

Although Chelsea and Celia hung out often due to Leo, they were still rivals.

"Oh, Celia's here."

"Oh! Aunt Reina!"

Celia ran over to Reina and bowed her head.

"Hello. How have you been?"

"Good, what brings you here so early?"

"I'm going to Lumeria City with Leo."

"Really? Have you had breakfast yet?"

"Not yet."

"Then let’s eat first."

"Yes!"

At breakfast, Celia was surprised to see Chelsea engaging in the conversation so amicably. She nudged Leo.

"What’s up with that?"

“Your aunt and Chelsea have become quite close."

"She's always friendly. She's nice to adults. Maybe because my mother wanted a daughter for a long time, she adores her a lot."

"Huh. That’s nice."

Celia glanced at Chelsea.

"You said you’d visit during the vacation, but you never came."

"I’ve been a bit busy with family matters. I’ll explain more later since it involves you as well."

"Okay."

After breakfast, Leo gathered his luggage and headed to the front door, where Reina and Dade came to see him off.

"I'll be back soon."

"Yes, have a safe trip."

"Stay healthy and study hard."

"Yes."

After exchanging farewells, Chelsea bowed to Reina and Dade.

"Marquis Plov, Reina, I owe you for this month. I've had a lot of fun!"

"Hahaha. We enjoyed having you, too. Visit us again next time."

"Yes! I’ll come visit during winter break!"

"Auntie, I’ll definitely come during the vacation, too."

"Yes. Say hello to your brother and Zeis for me. Tell Rhys to have a good final year, too."

"Yes."

With final goodbyes said, the three of them climbed into the carriage and set off.

On the way to Delan's Warp Gate, Celia asked, "By the way, Leo, did you finish your homework?"

"Of course."

"It must have been tough doing all of the work for sorcery, summoning, and knight studies."

"It wasn't too hard."

"Well, of course you would handle it fine."

"How about you?"

"All done. Although I struggled a bit with the special activities homework."

"That one was tricky for me too," Chelsea added.

The special activities homework.

It required students to engage in something unique during their vacation and write a report on it.

"Leo, I’m sure you didn’t need to worry about that."

"Really? What did you do during vacation?"

"I attended Azonia's entrance exam.”

"What?"

Celia’s eyes widened with surprise.

"During the Azonia entrance exam, Arron’s Hero’s World was conquered, and it caused quite a commotion, right? Did you see it firsthand?"

Celia's curiosity peaked, but Leo just nodded, opting not to elaborate further.

"How did you manage to attend the entrance exam?"

"My mother had a letter of recommendation for the Azonia entrance exam due to past connections, so I could go. I had to leave early because Professors Ain and Yura caught me on the way, but it was worth it."

"It must have been exciting," Celia said, clearly envious.

Azonia students were known for their exceptional skills, and Celia envied Leo’s chance to compete with them.

"There were many impressive students. Ar Tune was particularly remarkable."

"Ar Tune? The top ranked of Azonia’s admissions this year?"

Celia’s eyes sparkled with interest.

"I’d love to try to go up against her."

As Celia's red eyes glowed with determination, Leo rested his chin on his hand and thought of Ar.

'I wonder how she’s doing.'

While they chatted, the carriage carrying the three arrived at the Warp Gate.

The staff at the Warp Gate were surprised to see them.

"Wait, isn’t that a Lumene school uniform?"

"I think the male student is Leo Plov. Who are the female students with him?"

"Hold on. Isn’t that Celia Zerdinger and Chelsea Lewellin?"

The staff recognized Celia and Chelsea from their entrance exam in Delan six months prior.

They approached the attendant, who was a bit tense in the presence of such renowned hero candidates.

"Let me confirm your names: Leo Plov, Celia Zerdinger, and Chelsea Lewellin?"

"Yes."

"Thank you. Please proceed to the Warp Gate. I’ll activate it now."

The three of them stepped into the Warp Gate heading for Lumeria City.

Whoosh-!

In a flash of bright light, the scenery changed instantly.

Leo, arriving at the bustling Warp Gate area, stepped out into the vibrant landscape of Lumeria.

"I haven’t seen this place in two months. It feels like it’s been forever," Celia remarked, enjoying the wind in her hair.

"Mrs. Chelsea."

A young man in a sorcery robe approached Chelsea.

"Sir Lewin."

"How was your vacation?"

"It was nice."

Lewin Pramt, a renowned sorcerer from the Lewellin family, greeted Leo and Celia as he politely acknowledged Chelsea.

"My name is Lewin Pramt."

"It’s been a while, Sir Pramt."

"Long time no see, Miss Celia."

Lewin, known for his power across the empire, was familiar with Celia as well.

"I’ve been sent by the Lord to escort you."

"Alright, I think you two should head to the hotel first without me, then."

"Ok. we’ll catch up with you later if we can. Otherwise, we’ll see you on the first day of school."

"Okay! I’m heading out now!"

"Let’s hurry along, then, miss!"

"Yup!”

Celia waved goodbye, and Chelsea stuck out her tongue before leaving with Lewin.

"I think she’s getting cheekier every day."

"It’s kind of cute."

"It’s not cute at all."

Celia rolled her eyes and headed towards Main Street in Lumeria City.

"Let’s get to our accommodations first. Uncle Zeis will arrive in the evening. He has something to discuss with you."

"What’s it about?"

"Well, over the summer vacation, there’s been a lot of talk about your position within the family."

Although Leo had been exceptional in his first semester and learned Phoenix Breath, he wasn’t listed in the Zerdinger family register. However, his impressive performance had shifted the family dynamics.

"Most of the family has agreed to officially recognize you as my cousin."

Leo’s achievements had made a significant impact, and the Zerdinger family couldn’t afford to overlook his talent.

"But there’s still one issue being discussed."

"What issue?"

"The question of succession."

Celia’s serious tone caught Leo off guard.

"Succession?"

"Yes."

The primary successor to the Zerdinger family was Rhys, with Celia being second in line. There was no other official successor at present. However, Leo’s name was now being considered as a potential third successor.

This recognition would grant Leo significant power within the Zerdinger family, beyond just being acknowledged as a relative.

"Well, the backlash has been so intense that it’s hard to predict what will happen."

Celia shrugged and then smiled mischievously at Leo.

"Why? Are you excited about the possibility of inheriting power?"

"Would that be complicated? Even if I were in line to inherit, it’d still be with Rhys for a long time."

"Even if you don’t ever take over, having considerable authority within the Zerdinger family wouldn’t be bad, right?"

"I’m not interested."

Celia laughed at Leo’s stern response.

It was clear he wasn’t like anyone she’d met before.

‘Is he incredibly ambitious or completely uninterested?’

Celia wondered with a smile.

"Let’s rest at the hotel until Uncle Zeis arrives. We can start preparing for the second semester tomorrow."

The reason why they had arrived in Lumeria City a few days before school started was to gather the supplies they needed for the upcoming semester.

Celia, glancing at her list of supplies, remarked to Leo, "We need so many more supplies this semester than the last. It feels like life at Lumene is really beginning to kick off."

"You must be busy with preparations for sorcery and summoning."

"It’s not that hectic," Leo responded while checking his own list.

Upon arriving at their hotel, the two immediately began unpacking their luggage.

As Leo lay on the bed, Elsie suddenly appeared.

[Leo! What is this magnificent city?]

"Lumeria City. It’s one of the largest cities in the world."

[Wow! It’s incredible!]

Elsie, pressed against the window, marveled at the bustling street scene.

"Would you like to see more?"

[Uh... Don’t you need to rest?]

"I’ve just arrived from the Warp Gate, so I don’t need to rest."

With a smirk, Leo got up from his seat.

He told Celia he’d be back after exploring the city, then headed out.

Perched on Leo’s shoulder, Elsie was thrilled to see the vibrant cityscape, so different from what she’d known 5,000 years ago.

Leo, smiling at her excitement, leisurely wandered through Lumeria City.

“What did you say? We said we’re Lumene students!”
“Yeah! We’re hero candidates! Let us in!”

On one side of the street, a commotion caught their attention.

A group of students in Lumene uniforms was gathered.

They were outside a café named 'Hero's Shelter.'

From the outside, it looked like an ordinary café, but it was exclusively for Lumene students and faculty.

"So, please submit your student ID."

"I don’t have it! I’m not staying long! Just let me in for a moment! It’s not like you don’t know who I am!"

Leo watched as the frustrated students pleaded. He clicked his tongue.

"They were recommended for expulsion during final exams."

Although they were once Lumene students, they could no longer enter the Hero's Shelter.

The surrounding crowd sighed, clearly accustomed to such scenes.

"I guess they’re here hoping to persuade the professors for another chance," one onlooker commented.

"That’s not a new occurrence."

"Nobody has ever been re-admitted, right?"

The murmurs continued, and Leo shook his head.

"If they don’t clear out, they might be forced to."

The representative of the expelled students flared his Aura, startling those nearby.

A disinterested voice suddenly spoke up.

"You’re being disruptive."

Everyone turned to see a man with black hair and black eyes.

"Lumene doesn’t offer second chances to those kicked out. Give up and move on. The path to becoming a hero doesn’t always lead through Lumene."

"What are you talking about?"

"We haven’t been expelled yet!"

The expelled students were visibly angered.

The man raised his hand, and with a swift motion, the students were pulled into the ground—more accurately, they were drawn into the shadows.

As the crowd stared in shock, the man grumbled lazily.

"It’s so annoying. They say the first-years are exceptional this year, but watching them run around without a shred of dignity makes me doubt it... Why did Kalian even summon me?"

Leo narrowed his eyes at the man’s nonchalant demeanor.

He quickly recognized the man’s identity.

‘A dragon.’
