Volume 10 Chapter 393 - Even Concealed, it Cannot be Hidden (3)

When he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw were two people.

Gilly, with reddened eyes filled with tears, and Murakan, who was comforting her by wrapping his arm around her shoulders.

He was certain that those two would have always been by his side and he felt like he was wrapped in some kind of silk that couldn’t have been any warmer.

“Kiddo!”

“Young Master!”

Gilly and Murakan stooped down to check Jin’s condition.

“Gilly. Murakan.”

“Young Master, are you really feeling better? Do you feel uncomfortable in any way?”

“Not at all. Deaths. Were there any deaths? Any knights that died by my hand?”

He had been worried about that right till he collapsed.

He didn’t want to kill innocent knights in his fight against the clan.

Of course, even though most of them were ‘enemy’ knights, they were obviously weaker than him and loyal to the clan.

Even when he would have to cut down those knights in the future, he’d prefer to deal with them through honorable fights or justified purges, rather than through a ‘surprise attack’ like that. Like the time he dealt with Joshua’s knights following him in Samil.

“There were none, Young Master.”

“That’s a relief.”

—[And I order all who are below the rank of flag-bearer.]

—[Protect them so that not a single Guardian Knight dies from my sword.]

It was significant that the command he gave while performing the Reigning Illustrious Bladeworks was followed.

It wasn’t that all who were below the rank of flag-bearer threw themselves to follow Jin’s orders, but that’s what it looked like.

“Should you really be worried about the knights from the moment you wake up, Kiddo? Do you know how worried me and Strawberry Pie…”

“I know, I’m sorry for worrying you.”

Gilly let out a sigh of relief as Jin gently hugged the two of them. Murakan slipped away immediately, talking about how embarrassing and awkward it was.

“No. I should be sorry instead since it was me who caused you great concern as soon as you returned.”

“You did nothing wrong, though. It was just that the clan treated you poorly.”

Jin naturally turned his gaze to Murakan.

“Murakan, did Sir Tellot really treat Gilly humanely?”

“Yeah, that human has a good head on his shoulders. It looked like she was more comfortable there than she would’ve been when you were out there causing a riot.”

“Well, he is the head of the Protectors of the People, after all. But I had a thought that Jordan or the other elders might’ve tried to mess with Gilly for no reason.”

“If they did, do you think I would’ve sat still?”

“That’s true.”

“Besides, in this situation, who would dare mess with your people? Kehaha, there’s chaos. Your mother and the 3rd flag-bearer are still in intensive care, and the elders are all busy trying to make things seem normal to the public.”

The Garden of Swords was still in shock. The martial prowess that Jin showed easily surpassed everyone’s expectations within Runcandel.

Of course, everyone who watched knew that Jin had risked his life by wielding a dangerous sword technique since he immediately lost consciousness afterward.

But he was only 19.

He wasn’t even twenty yet. Was there a single other human being who could flip Runcandel upside down like that, at that age, even if they risked their life?

Everyone who experienced it could be certain. Jin was the only human being who could do that. They couldn’t be sure that Luna could’ve done the same thing at 19.

In the end, he’d even seriously injured Rosa. Rosa and Luntia were still receiving intensive care from the medical team.

Even those who disliked Jin had no choice but to acknowledge that he had potential beyond Luna.

“That’ll be fun to see.”

“You damned kiddo. How many days are you going to be lying down just because you used a little strength?”

“A little? I was pretty impressive, you know.”

Impressive.

He thought to himself that he’d shown a side of himself that wasn’t embarrassed to say such things in the Garden of Swords. Though both his arms were cut off as soon as he arrived, and now he was on the verge of death because of it.

“Yeah, you were impressive. But if you’re impressive like that one more time, there won’t be a time after that for you.”

“How long was I unconscious for?”

“Ten days.”

“It means I almost died. I feel like I owe Rani too much lately.”

“You were in a state where even the divine power of the religious punk couldn’t guarantee your recovery, Kiddo.”

“Then who treated me? It would’ve been difficult with just the clan’s medical team…”

Suddenly Jin stopped talking and looked around. Now that he thought about it, he was in surprisingly good condition considering he had just woken up.

“…Was it Numeros’s Blood?”

Murakan and Gilly nodded.

Just three minutes ago, his pulse was faint, his breathing was irregular, and he was unconscious. Even his Heart of Light was as dark as an extinguished lamp.

The body that had been destroyed absorbed the single drop of blood left behind by a dead god and instantly regained its vitality. As if that impressive fight had been just a dream.

“Who was it?”

“Your father.”

“Are you joking?”

He responded without even realizing it.

Never, not a single time in his life…

Had he ever imagined that Cyron Runcandel, his father, would help him in such a way.

He had always known that his father held a good opinion of him, but this was a separate matter.

He had personally given his strength to him in the battle for hegemony.

None of his siblings had ever received such support from Cyron before.

“Young Master, the head butler brought it in himself just now. He told us that there was only one of these in the clan.”

“Why do you have such a stupid expression on your face? It doesn’t suit you.”

“I was just, honestly… a little surprised.”

He was so shocked that he couldn’t immediately think of what to say.

“No one in the clan, except for me, Sir Murakan, and the butler, knows that Numeros’s Blood was used on you.”

“Nobody knows?”

“Yes.”

The clan thought that Heinz had come to Jin’s room only to check on his condition. No one would have expected that the patriarch would personally bestow Numeros’s Blood.

Pffft.

Jin burst out laughing.

“Young Master?”

“What’s so funny?”

“There must be a reason why Father gave me Numeros’s Blood without anyone knowing. I think I’ve been misunderstanding my father.”

“A reason…?”

“There’s no need for me to tell anyone since he’s already kept it a secret for me anyway. It’ll be nice for the three of us to spend a cozy time together for a day or two before heading out. Since if we leave right away, people will suspect the head butler.”

“Ah!”

Gilly clapped her hands, realizing what he meant.

“You plan to keep it a secret that you’ve received Numeros’s Blood from the patriarch?”

“Yeah. Of the people out there, at least half of them want me dead. I wonder what kind of expressions they’ll have in a few days?”

“Are you sure you can do that? Since you suddenly woke up, it’ll be known soon that you used a divine relic of Numeros.”

“I can just say it was something I got when I was a provisional flag-bearer. Whether they believe it or not, they won’t be able to prove that I got it from Father.”

“But since it was a divine relic that the patriarch gave you himself… I’m worried that might anger the patriarch.”

“If he wanted to be credited for it, he wouldn’t have given it to me in secret. Since he gave it to me, it means I can do whatever I want with it. More importantly, tell me more about how things are in the clan. How many people are saying they’ll be on my side?”

“I can’t say for sure. However, from Petro’s observations, roughly 10% of the Guardian Knights and a small number of Enforcement Knights seem to be showing favor toward you, Young Master.”

“It’ll be hard to identify friend or foe right now. If the knights of the other flag-bearers, and the neutral ones, make up about 20%… Then Joshua and the knights belonging to the elders make up the rest.”

“That’s right.”

Even if all the neutral forces allied themselves with him, which wouldn’t be easy, it would still be a fight in which the council of elders and Joshua had an overwhelming advantage.

It was evident that Jin had caused a huge stir.

Nevertheless, ‘firmly vested interests’ weren’t something easily destroyed. This was something that applied not only to Runcandel, but all institutions of the world.

“Besides, most of the other warrior clans of Huphester have already been recruited by Joshua, so those who are already on his side won’t switch so easily.”

“Anyway, I don’t understand humans. They won’t switch sides even after seeing you destroy the Garden of Swords alone?”

“Nobody died.”

It was certainly fortunate that none of the knights who were protected at the time died.

On the other hand, it also showed the limits of the power of Jin as an individual.

The reason why not a single person died in the midst of that terrible magic flame sword and lightning, in a surprise attack, was because it was Runcandel.

“When I was a provisional flag-bearer, even Luna got in trouble for coming to see me and Father. It’s true that individual strength is really important, but you can’t take on Runcandel alone. And everyone knows this, so that’s why they continue to support Joshua. Because it’s safe.”

“Then, since you said about 10% show you favor, you should make sure to get them on your side. Should I go meet them?”

“You?”

“I’m still quite a symbolic figure in this damned Runcandel, right? If I seriously start recruiting knights, it’ll be quite effective…”

Jin and Gilly burst into laughter at the same time, while imagining him doing that.

“Do you find that funny?”

“It’ll only hurt your pride, Murakan. If there are any who would join our side from seeing you, they would’ve done it already.”

“I need to recover my strength, damn it!”

“And I have no intention of meeting those who favor me.”

“What? Why?”

“Because if I say ‘you seem to like me, so please join my side.’ It’s not that charming, is it? You have to make it so that they pledge loyalty to you even if you’ve done nothing. Put on a show once in a while when it’s necessary. We’ll expand our power in Runcandel like that…”

Jin continued talking while making eye contact with the two.

“What we need to meet first are the other forces.”

As always, Jin planned to raise his strength from the outside.

“The clans of Vermont and the Lutero Magic Federation, the warrior clans of Huphester that can still potentially join us, elite mercenary groups like the Black King Mercenaries and the Ghost Mercenaries, and the other major neutral forces… We need to start by expanding our power from there.”

Through them, Jin planned to show that his strong martial prowess wasn’t all he had.
