Volume 10 Chapter 360 - Bradamante Reforged (2)
“Then you should’ve said that from the beginning. Surprising us for no reason.”
Murakan let go of Picon’s collar, and Picon coughed as if he were embarrassed.
[I don’t have the forge I used to use so I don’t have a flame suitable for Bradamante. That’s why I need to use the Secret Technique.]
“Stop yapping and start working. Anyway, you’re such a liar. Do you know how strong Ozdok was?”
[Looking at his core, I can make a guess…]
Picon looked at the core greedily.
Though it was because of his desire to complete Bradamante, for someone who didn’t know that, it appeared as though Picon was fulfilling some corrupt desire.
“If I’d believed you and let the kids go on their own, who knows what would’ve happened? Argh, just thinking about it makes me angry. Why, I should just…”
[Hehehe. Everyone, follow me. Let’s go to complete my masterpiece!]
Picon went downstairs while humming.
Murakan shook his head as he watched him, and Jin shrugged his shoulders.
“Back when he was a human, he had such strong pride that no matter who came to visit him, he would be constantly shouting. I think I would’ve preferred that version of him. Becoming a god has made him a bit weird.”
“Well, thanks to him, I started looking for Temar’s tomb. He’s a nice guy, just a little playful.”
“Hmph, how is searching for that guy’s tomb thanks to him? It’s thanks to Solderet.”
The two followed Picon down into the basement, where the secret blacksmith workshop Jin had built was located. It was actually much larger than the house above ground.
Their eyes were drawn to the giant anvil in the center. On top of the anvil, Bradamante was letting out a radiant light.
His sword. One could even say his partner.
Ever since obtaining it during his days as a cadet, Bradamante was a sword that was almost like Jin’s other self.
‘It’s already been months since I last swung them. I’m looking forward to it…’
Picon placed the core on top of Bradamante.
Then, as he’d said earlier, he took a knife and sliced off about thirty percent of the core, as if the whole thing wasn’t necessary. The core, which was fairly tough, was cut through like butter.
“Hey, hey. Don’t think about pocketing that.”
[Do you think I’m a thief? I never planned to. I don’t have a guardian dragon yet anyway. Jin, how are you going to use what’s left of this? Are you going to use it to restore his heart?]
The core of a monster was a great elixir to dragons. Especially if it was a monster on the level of Ozdok, it wasn’t completely impossible to restore a destroyed dragon’s heart.
Murakan, however, snorted at the thought.
“You only say that because you’re so ignorant. Baldie, the heart of someone such as myself can’t be restored by some lowly thing like that. If that was all it took to fix my heart, I would’ve been looking for that monster a long time ago.”
[Then?]
“There’s a dragon that needs it besides me. We’ll give it to him.”
The Lightning Dragon, Kaltor. Julian’s Guardian Dragon.
Jin intended to use the remainder of the core on him.
Tsk.
Picon clicked his tongue as though he felt it was a shame. He had been hoping for the slim chance Jin would give the rest to him to craft other weapons.
Picon was only interested in the act of ‘crafting’ itself as a blacksmith, and had no particular interest in any personal gain from doing so.
“I’ll continue to look for cores whenever I hear news about a cored monster. We’ll support you whenever you need it urgently, so don’t feel too bad.”
As Jin spoke, reading his mind, Picon smiled broadly.
[Really?]
“Yes. Now that I know that cores are also used in blacksmithing, I need to make some weapons for my companions and knights.”
[Good, good. I think it was a good decision to become a god. Right, let’s start right away then.]
Picon said, quickly hiding behind Jin’s back.
[Use Hell Fire on Bradamante!]
“…Here?”
[Is there a problem?]
“There won’t be any basement left.”
[I’ll help out with that, so don’t worry about it. Try to focus it as much as you can on just Bradamante. Even if you feel my power intervening, keep going.]
“Got it.”
Phwoosh—!
As he drew on his power, sparks flew. At the same time, Jin’s pupils were filled with fire. Magic and aura began to flow through the runes engraved on his entire body.
A huge flame that would make even Murakan flinch instantly filled the basement.
Even for Jin, it was impossible to concentrate such a great flame onto a small object like Bradamante.
‘If I’m not careful, not only the basement, but the surrounding territory could all burn down.’
The moment he began to have doubts.
Fwoosh—!
Picon let out a different kind of ‘fire’ into the midst of the Hell Fire that was just beginning to bloom.
Blacksmithing required more than just iron and steel. Fire was also an essential element of blacksmithing, so the God of Blacksmithing had some ability to manipulate flames as well.
Picon’s flames and Jin’s Hell Fire mixed, forming a path. As a result, Jin had a much easier time concentrating his own flames onto Bradamante.
[Hmm, it’s not enough!]
The moment Picon finished speaking, a blue spark stood out among the red flames.
Cawww!
As the summoned Tess added to the flames, Picon burst into a satisfied laugh.
[Yes, this is it!]
He poured out flames like that for ages until his aura and mana were depleted.
Jin had already put down his sword and was catching his breath, but the flames were still spiraling toward Bradamante. Thanks to the melted core, Bradamante had a golden glow.
[Well done. You can rest now, I’ll finish it soon.]
Creak!
Suddenly, a dimensional portal opened in front of Picon.
What came out from it was a hammer larger than the average man.
Picon lifted it with all his might and began hammering it.
Bang, bang—!
The sound of the giant hammer hitting Bradamante echoed in his eardrums.
Jin suddenly felt all the strength drain from his body as he fell asleep.
* * *
September 4th, 1799.
A full day had passed since the hammering began.
“You’re up? That took all day. Him saying he’ll be done soon was yet another lie.”
Though Murakan spoke in a rough tone, at the end, almost inaudibly he thanked him for his work. Picon’s face was very pale after finishing.
That was to be expected, since he swung his giant hammer without even a second’s rest.
But unlike his gaunt face, his eyes were bright and shining with a sense of accomplishment.
“Kiddo, you must’ve been quite tired, huh? Falling asleep so suddenly. Was the fight against Ozdok more exhausting than you thought?”
Jin shook his head.
“I don’t think that’s it. I don’t know. Even when I cast Hell Fire, I wasn’t this tired.”
“You should take some medicine.”
Though he was curious about why he suddenly fell asleep, for now, he wanted to touch Bradamante in its completed form.
Picon’s hand trembled as he passed it to Jin.
[Haha, this is the greatest sword since Barisada…]
As he held the sword, he felt a warmth that hadn’t yet disappeared.
He could tell before he even swung it. This sword couldn’t be compared to the Bradamante he used before at all.
[What do you think?]
“I didn’t know a sword could change this much.”
[The activation command is ‘Armor Awaken’. Since you have Myulta’s Rune, I made it so that both the activation command and the aesthetics match.]
Armor Awaken.
Like Myulta’s Rune, the armor formed as soon as he recited the incantation in his mind. The shadow energy flowing from Bradamante enveloped his entire body.
Woosh…!
In less than a second, armor formed over his entire body. It was sleek, but since it wasn’t made of steel, instead of being shiny, it had the distinctive flickering characteristic of shadow energy.
There were absolutely no seams or gaps in the armor formed by Bradamante.
Yet despite that, there was no problem moving freely.
Perfect black armor with no edges or any sense of weight. Indeed, Jin felt a sense of grandeur from it worthy of being called the masterpiece of the God of Blacksmiths.
The cape that flowed beautifully was also striking.
[I added the cape afterward for the sake of your aesthetics. Though of course, it still has functions… It’s specialized for blocking magic spells. Most importantly, the cloak is removable, which will be very useful in situations where you need to protect someone else. Do you like it?]
“Yes, thank you for your hard work, Picon.”
[Hehe, I think this is the first time I’ve seen you make that kind of expression. Once you check the performance when attacking, your jaw will drop.]
Like Picon said, as Jin imbued shadow energy, the corners of his mouth rose.
‘It’s different…!’
The sensation he felt now was in a completely different dimension to how he felt imbuing Bradamante with his shadow energy up till now. Even though he only imbued it with shadow energy, a strong energy surged out as if he had used Blade Awakening.
[Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have been able to make its offensive power greater. That phoenix of yours, though. Thanks to Tess’s flames, I gained new powers without even realizing it. Why don’t you call it something like Pressure?]
A soft blue energy was swirling between the blackened blade.
It was the energy of the blue flame. It contained the full force of Tess’s pressure, and was the result of Tess permanently infusing some of the power of the Fire Dimension into the blade while it was being forged.
‘Ah, that’s why I fell asleep.’
Though it had been tough on Jin to use Hell Fire right after fighting Ozdok…
The reason Jin fell asleep so suddenly was because Tess had borrowed his energy to interfere with this dimension as much as she could.
To infuse the sword with the power of her pressure that her contractor would use.
Tess wished that, no matter what situation, even if Jin was out of mana and couldn’t summon her, she wanted him to be able to use some of her power.
Even though Tess possessed tremendous power as the ruler of the Fire Dimension… An ordinary blacksmith couldn’t do that when making ordinary weapons.
This was only possible because the God of Blacksmiths was someone as great as Picon, and it was he who was forging the divine sword, Bradamante.
But that didn’t mean it came with no restrictions.
‘The dimensional portal leading to the Fire Dimension won’t open…?’
He tried to summon Tess to express his gratitude, but even after casting the spell, the dimensional portal didn’t open. Only the blue flames required to open it appeared.
Perhaps it was because of the power of the blue flame within the sword, but…
Jin could feel Tess’s ‘will’ being transmitted through Bradamante.
It told him that she needed some time to recover before she would be able to appear again.
