◈ Return of the Disaster-Class Young Lord ◈
Chapter 28 | The Uninvited Guest (2)
───────────────
The white-masked young lord.
A rising star who passed the Disaster Bride’s Groom Selection and was granted an entire domain as a reward.
His very existence stirred the Unnatural City, and he was hailed as an extraordinary figure of great talent. Many believed it was certain that he belonged to one of the Hundred Great Houses, which only fueled the excitement.
…Until, an odd rumor began to spread.
“They’re saying the white-masked young lord might be a fraud?”
“Yeah. Why hide his status if he was from one of the Hundred Great Houses? And why wear a mask to cover his face?”
Of course, not many gave credence to the rumor.
Pretending to be from the Hundred Great Houses was suicidal—especially for a noble, let alone a commoner.
And considering that he had already been granted a domain by Lord Urk of Fallen Wolf City and the Disaster Bride—two figures who would not be easily deceived—the speculation seemed even more far-fetched.
“Come on, I’m sure a high noble has his reasons. You think Lord Urk or the Disaster Bride can be scammed that easily?”
“That’s not the only thing. I heard this straight from a reliable informant…”
Yet, rather than dying down, the rumors became more elaborate.
They claimed his domain had no real soldiers,
That he was hiding an immense fortune.
And that whoever robbed him first would claim it all for themselves.
As the whispers spread, many bandits found themselves licking their lips.
Still, anyone with a shred of caution held back. If the white-masked young lord truly belonged to the Hundred Great Houses, he was untouchable.
* * *
“Are we all set?”
“Yes, boss. We’re ready. But… is this really okay?”
Cag, the cautious goblin who served as the deputy leader of the Dragon Bandits, glanced anxiously at his leader while they crept toward the Sleeping Dragon Manor.
“What are you worried about now?”
“Those rumors about him being from the Hundred Great Houses, boss. If it turns out they’re true…”
“Tch, you believe that drivel?”
“Hey, there’s no smoke without fire, right? Er... you need an egg before a divine beast can hatch.”
“Nonsense!”
The Dragon Bandits’ boss, a hulking Lizardman named Raker, dismissed Cag’s concerns with a single snort. Flicking his forked tongue, he continued, “Think about it. If he truly were from the Hundred Great Houses, why would he be staying in some no-name domain?”
“He might’ve lost a power struggle among the nobles and was exiled.”
“Then he’d already be formally engaged to the Disaster Bride.”
“...Well, you have a point.”
“Trust me, that white-masked young lord must’ve cheated somehow to pass that selection.”
Faced with Raker’s logic, Cag had little choice but to concede. His boss was never sloppy when choosing prey—like a true Lizardman, he was always cold-blooded and calculating.
Reassured by his confidence, the other bandits crept forward, moving in on Sleeping Dragon Manor.
Their numbers totaled about twenty.
Normally, that wouldn’t be enough to loot an entire domain, but they didn’t hesitate. From what they had gathered, the estate was populated only by feeble commoners and a handful of cheap slaves.
Even if things went south, they just had to grab whatever valuables they could and flee before being surrounded. A few might get caught, but that was an acceptable price.
Brimming with confidence in their “perfect” plan, they reached the heart of Sleeping Dragon Manor: the mansion itself.
High walls. A thick gate. Windows sealed with iron bars.
It was built to defend against monsters, making it practically a mini-fortress.
But Raker wasn’t worried. He flicked his tongue and spoke.
“Cag.”
“Yes, boss.”
Clank.
Cag pulled a rope fitted with a grappling hook from his belt.
He twirled it overhead and hurled it upward. The hook coiled tight around the chimney jutting from the mansion’s roof.
“Nice throw, deputy!”
“Ugh, so jealous. If only I’d awakened as a Petty Thief like the deputy, I’d be rolling in cash…”
“Bah, you’d have gambled it all away anyway.”
“Shut it, you idiots. One more word, and I’ll kill you.”
“R-Right…”
They quietly climbed onto the roof using the rope, one by one. Once atop, they split into four groups of five, each assigned to raid a different wing of the mansion.
They pried open rooftop hatches, slipped through corridors, and moved with swift precision—a testament to their years of experience as bandits.
Cag rolled his eyes as he glanced around. Tch. I guess there’s nothing fancy in the hallways.
Just on this top floor alone, there were easily ten doors. Choosing the right one could mean the difference between a jackpot or a complete bust.
Always go for the biggest door first.
He hadn’t mapped the mansion’s interior, but the size of the door was usually a good indicator of the room beyond. Among the doors on the top floor, one stood out as the largest.
Testing it gently, he found it wasn’t locked.
Carefully, without making a sound, he pushed it open a crack and peeked inside.
Jackpot.

The lavish décor and the enormous, ornate bed made it clear—this was a noble’s bedroom.
Grinning, Cag signaled to his underlings.
They, too, lit up at the sight and followed him in, knives drawn, creeping toward the bed.
No matter who was sleeping here, just put a blade to their throat, and they’d sing like a canary about where all the valuables were hidden.
But just as Cag and the others reached the bulge in the blankets—
CLAAANG!!!
“Gyaaah!”
A sudden clash of metal. A scream. Cag cursed inwardly.
Ugh, which idiot set things off already?!
Flustered, he yanked the blanket away, trying to point his dagger at whoever was in the bed. Or at least, that was the plan…
“I said to handle this quietly, but it seems more training is in order.”
The cold voice came from directly behind them.
Cag and his fellow bandits panicked, but they couldn’t even turn around before an iron fist struck like lightning.
Pa-pa-pa-pow!
“Gah!”
“Gruh!”
In the blink of an eye, before any of them could react, Cag’s underlings crumpled, clutching their guts. He trembled in pain, stunned.
Being taken down by a dark elf maid was shocking enough. That she’d struck so fast he couldn’t even react? Terrifying.
A-A high-level awakened…?!
Sure, it might make sense if it were the white-masked young lord himself. But a dark elf? In Cag’s wildest imagination, he had never considered that.
While he reeled, another voice spoke.
“You didn’t have to handle them for me.”
“If you had turned this bedroom into a bloodbath, who would have to clean it up?”
“A ‘bloodbath’ is a bit dramatic. I was only going to lightly stab their arms and legs...”
A white-masked boy emerged from beneath the now-cast-aside blankets. Looking disappointed, he clicked his tongue and sheathed his dagger. Then he walked over to the window.
Peering outside at a rampaging Lizardman, Dion wore an amused smile.
“Hmm, he’s got the Brawler class. At least he’s putting up some fight as their boss.”
Sure enough, Raker was desperately resisting in the courtyard below. His comrades had all been captured, yet he alone swung his sword, fighting tooth and nail—like a grizzled war hero rather than a mere bandit leader.
But the problem was that the foe he faced was no ordinary opponent.
Grrrrr…
“G-Gah! Stupid beast!”
The lupin girl snarled deep in her throat, slashing at him with claws and dagger. Though far smaller in stature than the hulking Lizardman, she moved like a vicious hyena—nimble and merciless.
Every strike went straight for a vital point, forcing Raker onto the defensive despite his Brawler class. Moreover, whenever her eyes flashed, his limbs appeared to freeze, granting her the advantage.
And then—
Pang!
“Krrk?!”
An arrow tore through his leg like lightning. Staggered by pain, Raker was unable to stop Orr Kai from landing a crushing uppercut to his chin. Just like that, he was subdued.
All across the mansion’s grounds, the slaves appeared, dragging out the remaining bandits. Once they’d cleared away the last of them, Arsha stood atop the roof and waved.
Dion waved back from the window, murmuring, “Hmm, all that tough leveling in the labyrinth these past few days paid off.”
“You nearly got them killed more than once, and you call that ‘tough leveling?’”
“If their skills are lacking, they should at least put in the effort.”
Their skills… are lacking?
Cag could only stare in shock.
These bandits might not have been unstoppable, but they had awakened members. Yet here they were, taken down in seconds, and the boy dismissed them as lacking skill.
And it wasn’t just empty boasts. The existence of multiple high-level awakened individuals on top of that was proof enough that the white-masked young lord wasn’t some petty con artist.
So he really might be a legitimate heir of the Hundred Great Houses…?
Cag trembled. Meanwhile, Dion casually kept chatting with Parsha:
“So, Parsha, how are ‘the kids’ doing? Not bad, right?”
“They couldn’t subdue these bandits in one blow, so they still have a long way to go.”
“But it’s enough to defend a domain, right?”
“By the standards of a small to mid-sized estate, perhaps.”
“So, yes. Enough.”
Parsha fell silent. She couldn’t deny it.
After training with Dion in the labyrinth and enduring his “hellish” routine, those thirty-one slaves had become fine awakeners in their own right.
Ignoring the shortage of high-level awakened and professional soldiers, the Sleeping Dragon Manor was no longer weak.
“Right after we got the warning about bandits, I racked my brain over how to advertise. But hey, the ‘experience points’ came knocking on our door first. See? Being nice pays off.”
Watching the boy—who, upon hearing rumors of bandits, had excitedly trained his slaves, then wondered how to entice more bandits to show up—Parsha remained expressionless.
Ever since Dion awakened, the biggest change is how utterly he’s lost his mind and abandoned any semblance of conscience.
