Chapter 54

[You've moved to the waiting room.]

[You’ve been given a 30-minute break.]

After the preliminary ended, Su-hyeok found himself in a small room of about 13 square meters with nothing but a single bed.

Fortunately, with the 30-minute break, the schedule wasn’t too tight.

- Ah.

- The time limit was disappointing.

- It was too rushed.

People expressed their disappointment with the fight between Su-hyeok and Omar having been suddenly interrupted. It was only natural for them to be upset. Their fight was the highlight, after all.

Su-hyeok felt the same way.

"That's right. My 10,000 points…"

- Hahaha.

- He was serious, lol.

- He even mentioned the 10,000 points at the end.

He truly saw Omar as a 10,000-point target. If he'd defeated him in the preliminary round, he would have gotten 10,000 points.

In the end, Su-hyeok chose to hold back his trump card and postpone the showdown after a certain whisper from Un-hyang.

- [Manager] [Whisper] Su-hyeok, fight him later! We need to get good footage!

That message made Su-hyeok reconsider his strategy.

'We do need to boost my content.'

The fight with Omar was the core of his stream. The longer Omar stayed alive, the more content there would be for the viewers.

That was evident from the viewer count alone.

[Viewers: 11,009]

His viewer count had surpassed 10,000 and was sitting at 11,000.

A conversation he had with Un-hyang flashed through his mind.

"10,000 people. According to the team leader, that seems to be the wall."

"Wall? What kind of wall?"

"I'm not entirely sure, but it seems that if a streamer can reach 10,000 viewers even once, they have a higher chance of success. Not everyone, but probably… most of them.”

10,000 people… Su-hyeok became acutely aware of that number from then on.

Could he continue achieving things as a streamer in the future, or would he disappear after a brief moment of success, like many other streamers?

To shake off those uneasy feelings, he felt that he had to reach that number.

Finally, his stream had successfully passed the ‘wall’.

'It wasn't a bad choice.' Both for the stream and for his showdown with Omar, not rushing the fight during the preliminary was the right decision.

Su-hyeok looked down at his palm. Although it had been short, he had exchanged a few blows with Omar and noticed his hand was slightly trembling.

The strength behind Omar's spear wasn't something that could be dismissed.

'It's tingling.' Omar was stronger than he expected. His power hadn’t come from a special skill, either. Rather, it had been from his level and base skills with handling the spear.

'He's far beyond a 3rd-floor player's level. At the very least, his stats are higher than mine.' Su-hyeok thought about what would come next.

The Thunder Cave… the unclearable dungeon that Omar had been obsessed with for 10 years.

'So it can't be cleared with his level, huh?'

No, it probably wasn't just that. Just as Su-hyeok hadn't used the Lightning skill, Omar probably had something he hadn't shown either.

- Do you think you can win?

A concerned viewer asked a question.

Su-hyeok sat on the bed and answered, "Yes."

Although Omar was stronger than he expected, the outcome wouldn't change. No, it had to be that way.

"I'm going to win. I have no intention of giving up."

It wasn't out of pride or because of the bet that he'd made with Omar about an apology or getting information about the Thunder Cave—it was because of the prize that was tied to the tournament.

There was no way he would lose, not with that on the line.

"Ah, that's right… the missions…" It was something he absolutely had to do.

- The mission, lol.

- How can he think of the mission in such a situation?

- Su-hyeok, you're really amazing~!

- Money Su-hyeok!

100 points per kill. Since he received the same mission twice, it was 200 points per kill. The total number of kills in the preliminary round was 98.

"We must settle the points."

[You've completed the mission.]

[You've received 9,800 points from 'Two Holes'.]

[You've received 9,800 points from 'Vongole Pasta'.]

He'd received 19,600 points in total.

"Thanks for your donations, 'Two Holes' and 'Vongole Pasta'."

With that, he met the required points…

[Owned Points: 96,029]

His points skyrocketed in an instant.

He'd wondered when he would save up 80,000 points, but it turned out to be much quicker than expected.

[You've used 80,000 points.]

[The skill level of 'Selfish Sacrifice LV4' has increased.]

[Owned Points: 16,029]

A lot of points were drained in one go. Even so, he still had 16,000 points left.

'This mission was a huge success.'

He wished he could have deathmatches like that every day. If that were the case, he would be able to increase his skill levels much faster.

'The rank…'

[Selfish Sacrifice]

# Type: Skill

# Rank: B-

# LV: 5

# Suppresses the side effects of skills and items that harm the user.

# Points can be used to upgrade the skill's rank and level.

# Required Points: 160,000P

- Price: 160,000 achievement points

He tried not to look at the daunting figure at the end. Just when was he going to save that much? He couldn't get used to the required points, doubling each time.

Still, there was one noticeable improvement…

'The rank went up.'

The skill rank stuck at C had risen to B. Even though it came with a minus sign, its effect had probably significantly improved.

He was feeling both satisfied and frustrated from the upgraded skill.

Su-hyeok's gaze shifted back to the chat window.

- Why isn't he talking?

- He's probably resting.

- What comes next is the real deal. I bet sharpening his focus in advance.

- Woah… He's cool. If only he didn't like money so much…

- Hahaha, agreed.

Should he clear up the misunderstanding?

'Let's leave it like this.'

Such misunderstandings were welcome. Su-hyeok decided to enjoy his 30-minute break.

The ice hadn’t yet melted in the yard, and Kim Siwoo stroked his chin as he watched Lee Su-hyeok, who seemed to be gathering his focus while sitting on the bed.

"This side of him isn’t the same." Gathering his concentration before a fight? That didn't match the Lee Su-hyeok he knew.

Lee Su-hyeok was someone who could maintain his focus at any moment, under any circumstance. Moreover, the more he fought, the sharper his focus became.

He stayed true to the moment and only took breaks when necessary—that was the Lee Su-hyeok Siwoo knew.

"What am I doing, playing a spot-the-difference game?" Siwoo shook his head and brushed off his unnecessary thoughts.

There was only one reason why he was watching the stream—Yeryeong was aiming for the tournament's prize. Potential winners could only be narrowed down to Omar or Su-hyeok.

'For now, Omar still seems to have a higher chance of winning.' Siwoo had noticed Su-hyeok's hand trembling slightly.

It was unlikely many had seen it because it was only for a moment, but even that was enough to gauge the difference between the two.

'On the lower floors, level is everything.'

Unlike the upper floors, where special skills, battle experience, and accumulated knowledge were crucial, strength in the lower floors was primarily measured by level.

What was needed to level up was, after all, effort and time; Omar was a player who possessed both.

'Lee Su-hyeok's advantage is the Lightning skill.'

There probably wasn't anyone who knew that skill as well as Siwoo. If there were, it would probably be Yeryeong and Ilsu, the two who once bore the name of Blue Eyes on their backs.

Siwoo could guess how the outcome of the match between the two would turn out.

"If they fight 10 times, he might win once."

There was a simple reason behind his deduction.

"He just needs to land one good hit."

Lightning's fatal flaw was that it drained the user's Stamina, making prolonged battles difficult. Against a seasoned player like Omar, landing a proper hit would be a challenging task.

If that one hit connected, though, even Omar would be severely injured.

'Hmm, yes… The real Lee Su-hyeok would have a 100% chance of winning in his place.'

* * *

A middle-aged woman with makeup sat in the middle of the audience. Yeryeong, with a changed face, crossed her legs and watched the match with her arms folded.

'This is quite interesting.' She hadn't expected much from what she thought was a kids' fight. In fact, the level of most players on the screen made her frown.

Still, there were two exceptions.

'I already knew about Lee Su-hyeok… But that Omar guy, he's really something.'

His spear-wielding skills were extraordinary. People often labeled him as a late-blooming, hardworking type, or something along those lines.

In Yeryeong's eyes, he felt different.

'He surpassed the wall.' To be obsessed with something for 10 years was undoubtedly impressive. It was a testament to his mental strength. Omar was a genius when it came to that.

'If he gets the prize here and clears the Thunder Cave and moves upward…'

A cool image was forming.

'He will soon become a ranker. Interesting.’

The strong-minded kid named Omar and the kid who shared the same as her friend… Even if it wasn't for her goal, it was intriguing enough to want to watch it.

"Ah…"

"He can win, right…?" Next to Yeryeong, a black-haired woman sat with her legs closed, mumbling and looking at her kit instead of the arena's screen.

'A stream?' She was watching a stream, and it was of a familiar streamer.

"So it's Lee Su-hyeok…"

"Ah, you know him?" The woman's head turned. The distance between them suddenly became uncomfortably close. "Are you perhaps a viewer as well?"

"Huh? Ah… Yes," Yeryeong replied.

"Woah, it's nice to meet you. I'm also a fan. I've been one for over 20 years."

20 years… Lee Su-hyeok, the streamer, started streaming about 10 days prior. That meant she was a fan of the true Lee Su-hyeok.

Yeryeong felt a strange sense of familiarity. It'd been a while since she met someone who remembered them. Especially someone so close.

"My name is Un-hyang," the woman said, her eyes narrowing as she spoke. "What about you?"

Yeryeong became certain…

The woman had noticed her face was fake.
