Chapter 50

If it was a coincidence, it was a really surprising one.

Even though they were in the same city for the same purpose—to participate in the competition—they had run into each other in such a small shop.

Moreover, Omar Schneider was helping him.

'Well, that's that.' As strange as the situation was, there was something more important.

"Hey, old man," Su-hyeok said.

"Wh-what…? Old man?" Gulrock was momentarily flustered by Su-hyeok's sudden change in demeanor.

"I'll hear the price one more time. If I don't like it, I'll go elsewhere. If I do, we'll make it a deal."

Tap—

Su-hyeok gestured as if he were about to take back the sky serpent's scales at any moment. "Think carefully and make your offer. This time, make it so it's beneficial for both of us."

After much deliberation, Gulrock offered a price of 18,000 points, which was 2,000 more than the original price. Though he would still make a profit from reselling it, it wouldn’t be much.

'Not bad.' In addition, Su-hyeok sold off other monster parts. In the end, he earned 20,000 points total. Adding in the points from the settlement, he’d earned 69,789 points.

[Owned Points: 76,329]

Two thoughts crossed his mind… One was that he would be able to reach his target points faster than he thought, and the other was that if he just had 4,000 more points, he could level up his skill.

'It isn't that I can borrow money.' Loan sharks were like drugs. He would eventually have to pay everything back and more, so it was best not to start such a vicious cycle.

'I guess I'll have to wait for the next stream,' Su-hyeok thought.

Omar suddenly asked, "You're Lee Su-hyeok, right?" It seemed that he had approached him while knowing who he was from the start.

Well, it wasn't hard to figure out. Even if many streamers wore masks for cosplay, there probably weren't many who would be wearing one there at that time.

"Have you been following me?" Su-hyeok asked.

"No, not at all. It's just that you stood out too much. I was sure after seeing the condition of the sky serpent's scales."

Su-hyeok tapped on the mask covering his face. 'Should I walk around without it?'

In his previous life, he sometimes wandered around without his mask when he was by himself. After all, other than his comrades, no one knew his true face.

"That sky serpent. Did you hunt it yourself?"

"I didn't steal it, if that’s what you mean."

"It was in such amazing condition…" Omar stroked his chin, looking surprised.

The sky serpent was a boss monster that you might encounter on the 3rd floor if you were lucky. A team of fewer than 10 people being able to hunt one was considered skilled enough to move to the next floor.

How could Su-hyeok have hunted one alone and left the body in such good condition?

"Would you like to have a cup of tea?" Omar asked.

Su-hyeok checked the time and then nodded. He had something to discuss with him anyway.

In the corner of a crowded café, Omar ordered a parfait topped with a generous amount of cream.

Despite looking like he would drink a bitter espresso without a single cube of sugar, he surprisingly had a sweet tooth.

"I didn't think about it, but you can't drink tea with that—"

Click—

Before Omar could finish his sentence, the mouth section of Su-hyeok’s mask opened.

Omar awkwardly smiled and said, "It's more advanced than I thought."

"Well, this has happened more than once or twice." Su-hyeok took a sip of his coffee and asked, "Why did you want to come here? The tournament is right around the corner."

"We still have three hours left. I was bored, and besides, I happen to be interested in you."

"Your interest is a bit overwhelming, but… considering what happened earlier, I guess it's fine." Su-hyeok had received help from Omar. Thanks to him, he was able to sell the sky serpent's scales for a slightly better price.

Anyone who helped him make money was good from his point of view.

"You're planning to raid the Thunder Cave, aren't you?" Omar suddenly asked.

Su-hyeok's eyes lit up. The Thunder Cave… It was true that he was planning to raid the dungeon that had remained uncleared for over 20 years, and it was true that Omar, the one sitting in front of him, was the foremost expert on that place.

He couldn't help but be interested.

"Yes, that's right."

"At first, I thought you were being arrogant." Omar recalled the first time he'd heard about Su-hyeok. "A guy who just made it to the 3rd floor was boasting about raiding the Thunder Cave, of all things. I couldn't help but think it was arrogance."

"Are you saying you've changed your mind now?"

"You're quick-witted too. You’re half right."

Thud—

Suddenly, Omar put down the spoon he was using to eat the parfait. “You’re also half wrong.”

"So you haven't completely changed your mind…" Su-hyeok said.

Omar nodded. "I heard you've already obtained Lightning skill. I was surprised. After all, most people go to the Thunder Cave in the hopes of getting it."

"Most people?"

"I'm talking about our guild. They're desperate to get their hands on the skill." That meant Lightning wasn't Omar’s goal. "In any case, you have talent. A lot. After all, you're being compared to Lee Su-hyeok himself, of all people."

After the collab with Hawk Eye, he was always compared to himself—they had done the same trial, had the same score, and both had Lightning.

Everything was the same, so it would be strange if people didn't compare them.

"Even so, I still can't fully acknowledge you."

Su-hyeok looked into Omar’s eyes. What he saw wasn't envy, jealousy, or stubbornness stemming from a narrow-minded way of thinking. Instead, he saw the determination and pride of a man who’d lived with only one goal in mind.

That goal, of course, was all too obvious.

'He's sincere.' Su-hyeok liked him. Even his determination and pride. Moreover, the fact that he wasn't too greedy for power suggested that his ties with Blue Zone weren't that deep.

Su-hyeok leaned back in his chair and brought up the main topic. "So? Did you call me here just to say that?"

"No." Omar, too, thought it was about time they put an end to the conversation. "I want to make a proposal."

"A proposal?"

"Before that, is there anything you want from me?"

Su-hyeok smirked. As expected, the man knew what he wanted. "Yes."

"Tell me."

"Everything you know about the Thunder Cave."

Omar Schneider was a Thunder Cave specialist. There probably wasn't anyone in the tower who knew more about it than him.

No matter how much information Su-hyeok scraped from communities or articles, it couldn't be compared to the knowledge Omar possessed.

"I figured as much."

"What do you want from me?" Su-hyeok asked. Omar probably wanted something from him as well. After all, he'd gone through all the hassle of arranging a meeting and asking what he wanted first.

"Apologize."

"To you?"

"No." Schneider shook his head. "To everyone watching your stream. No, to everyone who knows about the Thunder Cave."

Grind—

"Start your stream and apologize. Say that your solo declaration for the Thunder Cave was arrogance born from ignorance and that you can't do it. Apologize like that." Omar spoke his convictions through gritted teeth.

'So he feels like I dismissed his efforts.' Su-hyeok's statement had undoubtedly affected him. After all, to him, it probably felt like he had dismissed the 10 years he'd spent trying to conquer the Thunder Cave.

Omar’s proposal was an attempt to correct that—to glue together the pride that had been torn apart by Su-hyeok’s stream.

"Clearing the cave, of course, is what the competition is about, right?" Su-hyeok asked.

"Yes."

"Well, I have nothing to lose from such a proposal if I lose the competition."

Omar laughed at Su-hyeok's confidence. "You accepted the proposal much more easily than I expected."

"Because I'm going to win."

"Well, I guess that will probably happen someday." Since it seemed the conversation was over, Omar got up. "But that won't be the case yet."

Suppressed Magic Power surged within his blue eyes. Omar, who'd been glaring at Su-hyeok for a while, soon turned around and left the café as if the conversation had ended and the business was concluded.

'Indeed. He's beyond the level of someone on the 3rd floor.' Su-hyeok could guess how strong Schneider was based on what he'd briefly shown.

Most players fit one of two types: they either overcame the trials and rose, or they hit a wall, got frustrated, and gave up.

Omar was neither—he was just obsessed with passing the ridiculously difficult challenge of the Thunder Cave. Because of that, he became an exceptional being with levels and stats that no player on the 3rd floor could possess.

'It seems he didn't waste 10 years.' Su-hyeok could say with certainty that Omar had achieved more on the 3rd floor than he had in his past life.

Outside the café, Omar’s comrades were waiting for him.

"Did you meet him?" Don Zhao approached Omar and noticed the man’s chilling expression. He could guess what kind of conversation he had without asking. It was probably about the Thunder Cave.

"Yes."

"How was it?"

"Not easy." As his tense expression eased, Omar sighed.

Seeing Omar like that, Don Zhao clicked his tongue. "It would have been nice if we had gotten an apology easily."

"I'm not sure about that."

"What do you mean by that? Isn't it better to get it easy?"

"That would mean someone insignificant had ignored the Thunder Cave. That would have been even more annoying."

"Is that so…?" Don Zhao scratched his head.

Their team leader certainly had a different way of thinking than others. When it came to matters related to the Thunder Cave, his mindset was even more peculiar.

"But definitely…"

"Definitely…?"

"Meeting him calmed my anger a bit. It doesn't seem that he's just a mediocre guy who got the Lightning skill because he was lucky." He wasn’t speaking empty words. Omar looked much more relaxed.

"It seems his skills were considerable."

"He isn't a rookie. That's for sure."

"Do you think you might lose?" Don Zhao asked, subtly provoking Omar.

"Meeting him made me more certain." Omar chucked and shook his head. "I won't lose. Absolutely not."

Don Zhao stopped prying further. Although their encounter was a coincidence, thanks to it, Omar had regained his composure. That alone made the meeting fruitful.

While the warm atmosphere lingered, both Omar and Don Zhao were unaware of the woman silently following them.

"Is it him? Shcneeder, or Schitzell… whatever his name is. The guy who uses a dog-like name."
