Chapter 140

The cutscene started as he was climbing the stairs, showing Viola imprisoned and Vigo facing her through the bars.

- Huh?

- What's going on?

- Another betrayal?

- This family's a total mess.

It made him remember the 5th floor's trial. Back then, Viola had been betrayed by Velveim, a fellow Valkyrie, but whether it was fortunate or not, the new cutscene wasn’t a betrayal.

"Ms. Viola, you're a sacrifice."

"A sacrifice? For what?"

"Didn't you hear the goal before coming here?"

Vigo’s words replayed before a man with a kind impression and green eyes appeared like a mirage, looked at Rasderich, and said, "I decided I’d show them my own way of crossing that place."

Su-hyeok clicked his tongue. "That guy's definitely the villain."

- Yes.

- Agreed.

- The nice-looking ones are always the worst.

Viola firmly said, "It's impossible."

There was no need to hear the rest. Su-hyeok vaguely understood Valhalla wasn't a place the residents of Midgard could dare to reach.

"That's why our leader needs a Valkyrie."

As expected, the trial wasn't going smoothly.

"I see…" Just fight and win to enter Valhalla? There was no way the 6th floor's trial was that simple. There was still something more, and the cutscene was the starting point for it.

"For what?"

"To awaken Bergelmir."

Bergelmir? He wasn't sure who that was. Judging by Viola's reaction, the green-eyed man's words weren't entirely baseless.

The following cutscene showed the green-eyed man, Baldur, beheading Vigo and mocking Viola and Vigo from beyond the prison.

"Isn't it funny? To think that giving you this information would change anything."

"No. It changes a lot," Viola said with certainty, holding the communication kit that could reach Su-hyeok.

Swoosh—

He heard a voice coming from the kit in his pocket. The cutscene gradually faded, but even after, Viola's voice continued—a message for him. "It will change. Definitely."

[Stage ? - 'Bergelmir'. Will you continue?]

Su-hyeok gave the notification a puzzled look.

'This is the first time I've seen something like this.'

Not showing which stage it was made it hard to gauge the difficulty, especially since it was a choice-based stage.

Should he safely pass Valhalla's test and head straight there or save Viola and stop the resurrection of Bergelmir? Such tests were usually rated as ‘Very Hard’.

Su-hyeok asked, "Should I head back?"

Of course, there wasn’t really a choice.

- Are you thinking of not going back?

- Have you gone mad?

- You want to abandon her?

- Leave her behind, and you'll see what happens.

A bloodthirsty sentiment flowed from his viewers. It was absolutely not a matter of choice. After all, half of his viewers were fans of her.

A couple of hours passed after Vigo's death.

Baldur, having called people to remove Vigo's body, returned to Viola’s cell. "It's time."

Viola, sitting on the floor, raised her head.

Seeing the glimmer of hope still in her eyes, Baldur asked, "May I ask why you look like that?"

"You will fail, Baldur."

"Do you still think you can survive?"

Viola shook her head at the misunderstanding. "It isn't about whether I live or die. What's important is that you will fail."

"Is your faith based on that human who came with you?"

Instead of answering, Viola chose silence.

"He won't return." He was certain. "Didn't I tell you? Those filthy gods have no intention of accepting us."

"How do you know that?"

"Because I challenged Valhalla too." A sneer formed on Baldur's lips. "So did my wife."

"Your wife?" She'd heard from Vigo long ago that Baldur had a wife he lost early.

"We promised to go to Valhalla together. To become happy there, forever. We had an impossible dream." Baldur opened the prison door. "Unlike me, my wife didn't manage to return alive. Do you know why?"

Swoosh—

Viola charged at Baldur, baring her nails to stab his neck.

"Because she never gave up." Baldur grabbed Viola's neck and slammed her into the wall.

"Ugh!" The impact shook her consciousness. Holding back from fainting, Viola stared into Baldur's eyes.

The man looked down at her. "Give up the hope that he'll return. This is all because of the nonsensical rules you people created." Baldur let her go, and soldiers entered the prison as if they’d been waiting.

"Even if he does return, he won't be able to get this far." Watching Viola being dragged away in restraints, Baldur crushed her last hope. "This is Midgard's headquarters, after all."

Midgard’s soldiers stood around a high tower. The gloomy weather and dry and cold air made them shiver.

"Why is it so cold? Something's definitely about to happen."

"Something already happened. Don't you know a Valkyrie was captured?"

A mix of anxiety and anticipation laced their conversation.

One of the soldiers looked up at the sky. "Is it really starting?"

"Now that it's about to start, I'm getting nervous."

"Any regrets?"

"Regrets? I'd rather do something once than spend my life serving under the gods."

Midgard was under Asgard, but their dream had always been Valhalla—Asgard's paradise—a world with beautiful scenery, sweet rivers, and temperate seasons.

There wasn't a single resident of Midgard who didn't dream of Valhalla.

"Let's just trust the commander."

"What if we fail—"

"We've come too far to worry about that."

In the distance, the soldiers saw Rasderich, the boundary between Midgard and Valhalla. Breaking it and making the gods’ world collapse was the core of their plan.

"Not only that, but the sky seems to be on our side. Luckily, a Valkyrie just happened to fall into our hands."

"That's true."

"Yes. Our job is to guard this place."

Step—

A stranger walked toward the entrance of the guarded headquarters.

"Stop." The soldier guarding the entrance raised his hand, and the other soldiers aimed their weapons from all sides. The dozens of ready weapons were enough to scare anyone.

The intruder calmly looked up at the towering headquarters. "I wanted to ask for directions." He gave off a strange vibe. "Is this Midgard's headquarters?"

"What do you want?"

"That's a yes, right?" Su-hyeok nodded. "Then I've come to the right place."

"What are you—"

WHOOM—!

Yellow lightning enveloped the soldier’s body the moment he prepared to fight.

"I guess she's somewhere around here."

"An ambush!"

"Who the hell is this guy?!"

"How much?" Su-hyeok wondered. Reacting to the commotion at the entrance, soldiers flooded in. Standing at the center, Su-hyeok smiled underneath his mask. "100 points per kill."

A mission had just come in time.

The swarming soldiers started to look like tasty points.

"Accepted."

* * *

He didn't even consider infiltrating stealthily. What mattered the most was time. Since Viola had been chosen as a sacrifice to wake up Bergelmir, he needed to hurry.

WHOOM—!

Wide-spread lightning obscured vision. With so many soldiers, Su-hyeok had no choice but to widen the range of his skill to deal with them all.

WHOOSH—

A soldier broke through the lightning and thrust a spear at his head, grazing his cheek.

Su-hyeok's blade slashed upward through the soldier's thigh.

Crack—

Bone and armor split; the soldier stopped breathing. Looking around, Su-hyeok saw the number of soldiers had increased.

- They're stronger than expected.

- Well, they're demigods, after all.

That's right, it was Midgard, a world where demigods, beings who were half human and half god, lived. The soldiers here were all at a similar level to Vigo.

'This will take some time.' He wanted to break through quickly. Using Master of Lightning would probably make the fight much easier, but that would be a bad move.

'Was he called Baldur?' The green-eyed man from the cutscene, the enemy commander who was holding Viola hostage, the boss of the trial.

'In the end, I'll have to defeat him.' For that, he needed to save some Stamina and take things slow.

[The seal on 'Bergelmir' is starting to break.]

[…]

- What?

- Already?

- WTF? What about our Valkyrie??

He didn't have time to take things slowly. Without knowing the situation, if the seal fully broke, there would be no way to stop it.

Wasn't it obvious? Bergelmir was the last resort against the gods and Rasderich, the world's boundary. Bergelmir was meant to make such a boundary collapse.

'I'll have to change my approach.' Energy flowed into his head, not his body.

He clenched his hands, the Thunder Gloves ready.

Taking out the soldiers one by one wasn't the right choice, but he also couldn't ignore his Stamina consumption. He had to find another way.

Click—

For the first time, Su-hyeok stepped back. The soldiers surrounded him as he stopped moving.

"Did he give up?"

"Surrender quietly! We might be lenient with you!"

They thought that Su-hyeok had given up after he stopped moving.

- GG?

- Did he really give up?

- Aren't you going to save our Valkyrie?

- He just has to go for another part~

The viewers were also thinking similarly. It was inevitable. After all, despite the urgency of the situation, he was stepping back and standing still.

If he were the type to give up so easily, he wouldn't have gone there in the first place.

"I wanted to try it." Su-hyeok's gaze turned to the top of the headquarter's tower. "Let's see if I can fly there."
