Chapter 128

Su-hyeok’s procedure ended.

Since it was worth 500,000 points, it was naturally more effective than the one he spent 200,000 points on. Although he felt a bit fatigued, at the same time, he felt the immediate effect on his body’s capacities.

'I didn’t think my other stats would also increase.' It had increased his Stamina and Concentration the most, but his Strength, Agility, and even his Magic Power had increased a bit as well.

There was a saying that, if you had enough points, you could even become a god, and that saying felt more real than ever.

After sharing a meal and some tea with Jin-woon, he parted ways. On his way back from the procedure, Su-hyeok checked his messages kit that had piled up over the past few days.

[Bbak Su-hyeok: Reached Silver 1 ^^ I'm going to Gold soon~]

[Bbak Su-hyeok: Wanna grab a drink when I hit Gold?]

[Bbak Su-hyeok: Why no reply?]

[Bbak Su-hyeok: Back to Silver 2…]

Most of the messages were from Bbak. Su-hyeok chuckled as he reached the messages sent within the past day.

[Lee Su-hyeok: When you come to the 5th floor.]

He pushed the promise far into the future. If luck was on his side, Bbak could reach Gold within a day, but then he would have to go back to the 4th floor again.

Checking the remaining messages, Su-hyeok felt puzzled. He thought there would be a message from Un-hyang, but instead there was one from Cheong-ryang.

[Cheong-ryang: When are you coming~~~]

'Did something happen?'

There wasn't anything particularly concerning, but he couldn't help but think that something felt strange.

Back when Un-hyang had promised to wait for him, she’d seemed reluctant, as if she wasn't too fond of being in Murim. He knew she found the place uncomfortable but didn’t think it was that big of a deal.

She was strong, after all.

[Lee Su-hyeok: I'll be there soon.]

He received no response. Since it was already late, was she asleep?

Step—

Eventually, the inn Un-hyang and Cheong-ryang were staying in came into view.

Ring—

His kit rang with a call from Cheong-ryang. He'd only checked his messages after getting close to the inn.

"I guess there's no need to answer…"

Click—

Getting closer, he noticed the inn was quiet. Too quiet. Shallow footprints—traces of trained martial artists—littered the ground before the wide-open front door.

Step—

Hurrying into the inn, he answered Cheong-ryang’s call.

"What's going on…?" At the same time, he saw the man crawling on the floor and struggling to hold onto his kit.

Bzz, bzzt—

Unyeop stared at the man who’d appeared in the middle of the battlefield in a burst of yellow lightning.

"Lee Su-hyeok…" He couldn't see his expression because he was wearing a mask. It was hard to fathom why he was even there. They were just a streamer and a manager, after all. It didn't make sense for him to become an enemy of Murim.

"What brings you here?" The opponent was both a player and a streamer, and one with a considerable number of viewers at that. Unyeop wasn't interested in streaming, but he knew the influence streamers held was significant.

"Don't tell me you're here to—"

Bzz—

Su-hyeok moved before he could finish speaking. Not toward Unyeop but toward the other martial artists.

"Wait—"

"Master…" Un-hyang said. "If you touch him, you're really going to die."

Unyeop, about to chase Su-hyeok, stopped. In the middle of the sudden chaos, he had forgotten who he was really fighting against.

Slash—!

His back suffered a deep slash. Thanks to his reflexes, he managed to avoid being cut in half, but the wound was still dire.

"Ugh!" He quickly created distance and refocused on Un-hyang. It was his mistake. He'd gotten distracted by Su-hyeok's sudden appearance and lost sight of his real opponent.

Facing Un-hyang again, he felt that something had changed. Just a few moments prior, it seemed like she was at a disadvantage. It wasn't just because of her physical state. As her wounds increased and she was pushed into a corner, she'd become sharper and more desperate.

With Lee Su-hyeok on the battlefield, she returned to her initial, calm self.

'Does she trust him?' Although he wasn't interested in the affairs of those below, Unyeop had heard about him.

Su-hyeok was a player who was going up through the tower at an incredible speed, and he even shared the same name as a legendary player from long ago.

'He’s rushing.' It didn't matter how talented a player he was, he'd just reached the 6th floor. 'This stage isn’t one he can set foot in.'

The elites of Shinryeong Castle were still too much for him.

The trees cut down in one stroke and the thunderous waves Unyeop created transformed the terrain into an irregular forest. With that forest as a stage, the martial artists of Shinryeong Castle fought Un-hyang. It was a natural choice. After all, a frontal assault would be hard.

BZZ, BZZT—

In the dark, complex bamboo forest, a yellow light flickered. Wongok, a martial artist of Shinryeong Castle, glared at the opponent who had suddenly joined the battlefield.

'Lee Su-hyeok.'

He was the one who had infiltrated the inn and held a knife to Cheong-ryang's throat, a Shinryreong Castle martial artist ranker who specialized in stealth techniques.

'His poor judgment makes his talent a waste.'

It was undeniable that Lee Su-hyeok was talented. Although it might be blasphemous to say, Hawk Eye considered him to be more talented than the legendary Lee Su-hyeok.

As if to prove that assessment, Su-hyeok had been climbing the tower at an incredible speed. If that continued, he would undoubtedly become a top-ranked player soon.

What was the point of that?

'He's going to die here.'

He wasn't streaming. Wongok checked his stream just in case, but as expected, he was offline. In that case, there was no need to hold back.

There were a total of eight surviving martial artists from Shinryeong Castle, and among them, four, including himself, were rankers.

There was no way they would lose.

BZZ, BZZT—

Su-hyeok, emitting lightning from his body, stared at the martial artists of Shinryeong Castle. His momentum was good, but that was all.

"Let's finish this quickly and secure the target." The martial artists began moving.

WHOOM—!

A bolt of lightning struck down from the sky, landing right above Su-hyeok's head. The remnants of the black lightning lingered.

Anyone who had seen even one of Lee Su-hyeok's matches even once would recognize it.

'Master of Lightning.'

It was Lee Su-hyeok's unique technique that greatly increased stats, a skill they thought they would never see again was unfolding before their eyes.

'We can't take him lightly.'

Perhaps, thinking the same, the other martial artists looked at each other.

Even though he wasn't a ranker, the opponent was Lee Su-hyeo, the second user of the Lightning skill that had appeared in 20 years. Since he'd used the Master of Lightning, they couldn't afford to be careless.

"We can't afford to lose anyone against someone like him. Form a perimeter around him and—"

Flash—!

The body of the martial artist who was talking split into two. From head to crotch, a single black line from Su-hyeok's blade split him apart.

WHOOM—!

The sound of thunder came a beat later. It was only natural for sound to be slower than light, but even so, it was strange that they hadn't even been able to see the swing of his sword.

"What the—?"

Someone was cut down in an instant. Just a few moments ago, they had said they couldn't afford a single casualty, and one was already dead.

Bzzt—

Su-hyeok charged into the remaining seven martial artists.

WHOOM—!

By the time they heard the sound, another comrade had fallen.

His movements; the trajectory of his sword, none of it was visible.

Carelessness? He wasn't an opponent they could afford to be careless against in the first place. For a brief moment, Wongok saw Su-hyeok overlap with Unyeop, one of the few high rankers in Shinryeong Castle.

"Push him back so he can't use any skills!"

The five martial artists rushed at Su-hyeok.

CLANG—!

They coordinated their attacks. After all, they had trained together daily, honing their teamwork. On the other hand, their opponent was a rookie who had just reached the 6th floor.

WHOOM-!

The fight should have been one-sided, but the complete opposite was happening.

CLANG—

"Ugh!!" A sword infused with Magic Power shattered, and a comrade, with his body charred black, collapsed to the ground.

Excluding Wongok, only four remained. Seeing another one of his comrade's heads getting sliced, he activated his stealth technique.

'This won't do.'

Swoosh—

He was wrong. They shouldn't have tried to take him head-on. He should have used his specialty and struck from behind from the start.

['Night's Starting Point' has activated.]

The skill activated, and his presence vanished. As if his body were separated from the world, even the smallest sounds like footsteps, breathing, and heartbeats were silenced.

The combination of Murim's stealth techniques and his skill was why Wongok had become a core member of Shinryeong Castle.

'I'll cleanly strike a vital point in one move.'

Su-hyeok was engaged in a fight against other martial artists. Even then, they were being pushed back, but with Su-hyeok distracted, the outcome was clear.

'Neck? Or heart?' After merging with the darkness of the night, Wongok slowly approached Su-hyeok from behind, deciding where to strike.

Where would be best? Wongok’s eyes lit up as he followed Su-hyeok's movements.

'The neck.' The moment he made that decision, Wongok's dagger thrust toward Su-hyeok's neck.

"Guys like you really lack creativity."

Grab—

Su-hyeok turned around and grabbed Wongok's hand that was holding the dagger.

"Huh…?"

"There was someone who used to hide and scare people all the time."

That was Yeryeong's bad hobby. She, who was exceptionally skilled in stealth techniques, often played mischievous pranks on her comrades, including Su-hyeok, with her skills.

Some never noticed her hiding and fell for her tricks every time, but at some point, Su-hyeok started to notice when she went into hiding.

WHOOM—!

His sword swung, accompanied by a thunderous sound.

"How could a… 6th floor…?" Wongok's body was split in two, creating a red line.

‘How?’ Su-hyeok looked at Wongok's corpse and answered the question he'd left behind. "Amateurs who know nothing always focus on the floor number."

The 6th floor? That was certainly his current position. However, the floor number that a player reached wasn't the only way of measuring one's strength.

If that were the case, Su-hyeok would have solely focused on climbing the tower. Collecting points before taking the trials, undergoing procedures, and getting weapons…

Even when he could move to the next floor, he'd deliberately twisted the difficulty to make it harder.

The reason why he went to such an extent was simple…

"What matters isn't how high you climb but how you do it."
