Chapter 95 - Finally Found It (5)
‘The illegitimate child that toppled the central director and the third wife of the clan head… Quite a newsworthy scandal. That Julius. He really thought this through.’
A black skylark was soaring through the sky.
‘Since he must remain impartial to his unit, he can’t give Theo any special privileges directly. Therefore, he decided to make Theo the center of attention instead… An indirect declaration of his intent to make Theo his successor.’
That was why Julius was so on edge. His blood brother and blood sister, the Black Dragon and Lady Plum Blossom, were showing too much interest in Theo.
‘He’ll be beside himself once he learns that Big Brother will call upon Theo once the current matter is resolved.’
After the four blood siblings had taken leadership over the clan, they had devoted their all to their duties, slowly growing more distant. It wasn't that their hearts had grown apart; they still cared for each other greatly. They simply couldn’t be close. Things had grown awkward between them.
They couldn’t have a drink with each other without a care like they used to. A simple gathering would shake not only Wintera and the entirety of the Northern region, but the empire as well. The entire world paid attention.
‘But that kid’s gradually bringing us back together.’
Julius and Osa had become familiar with each other, and now Robert had joined in on the mix. Even Kyle, in his own way, had taken interest in Theo. They had something to connect them again.
Of course, he and Kyle still distrusted regressors, but they were already making massive progress.
‘Now, Theo… No, my dear nephew…’
Arriving at his destination, the black skylark became veiled in light.
‘Don’t make a choice that would require me to cut you down with my own two hands.’
Flash!
The black skylark disappeared and in its place, the Black Dragon landed.
As the Black Dragon’s clothes flapped in the wind, Kleve and the other agents of Black Snow bowed down to him. He simply nodded in acknowledgment before gazing down the cliff.
A shabby-looking wooden hut sat below. It was a safe house utilized by the central director.
“The central director is inside?” the Black Dragon asked.
“Yes, sir. With the help of the Lanke Clan, we have successfully drawn him out by claiming that his assistance was required for a secret operation in the Demon Sea. The central director currently believes that the Lanke clan head is coming to meet him.“
“How many forces has he brought with him?”
“Twenty Class-1 agents, sir.”
The Black Dragon chuckled. “He sure must have a lot to worry about, bringing such an entourage.”
Class-1 agents of the CIB were an elite force comprised only of high-rank swordsmen. They were equivalent in rank to a captain or higher in other strike forces. It was both a sign of how worried Ed was about his own personal safety, and how difficult this subjugation would be.
However, that didn’t matter to the Black Dragon.
Shing—
For him, they were just more parasites he needed to slay.
“Move out.”
Upon his order, the Black Snow agents swiftly began to descend from the cliff.

Theo, the Lanke siblings, Evelyn, and Hazel quickly cut across Wintera. Behind them were twenty soldiers from the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry and thirty soldiers from the Plum Blossom Palace, forming a force of over fifty men.
The Ragnar flag flew above their heads. It signaled that they were enforcers carrying out the orders of the clan head.
Naturally, the residents of Wintera were surprised.
“Wh-what’s going on?”
“Judging by how fast they’re moving, it looks like something’s wrong…”
“The White-Armored Dragon Cavalry and the Plum Blossom Palace… It must be something big.”
“Maybe it’s a rebellion?”
“Hey! Don’t jinx it!”
“S-sorry. That was short-sighted of me.”
It was almost taboo to speak of rebellion in Wintera because each rebellion had brought bloody winds to the Northern region, regardless of whether they were successful or not.
With how fiercely Theo and company were charging through, everyone quickly opened up the way for them. Any swordsman who spotted them hurriedly rushed back to their own unit to report their movements.
However, Hulkus was busy with his own thoughts. ‘Hmm… When should I bring it up?’ he wondered, watching Theo from behind as he held the flag up high. ‘I don’t think now’s the right mood for it…’
He let out a sigh. He could see Theo’s reputation soaring through the roof firsthand. He needed to ask Theo to accept him, but he couldn’t figure out a good time.
Despite his appearance, Hulkus struggled to speak to people whenever they were in a serious mood like Theo currently was.
Erika could read Hulkus’s mind, so she activated sound telepathy.「Now’s not the time, dummy,」she scolded. 「Wait for another day. If you say something weird now, it’ll only ruin the mood.」
「What’s wrong with the mood?」Hulkus asked.
「Don’t you know the kind of relationship Theo had with that scumbag Axion?」
「Wasn’t it that they just didn’t get along…? And the third wife is upset because Theo killed her son.」
Erika sighed.「I knew you wouldn’t know. How do you expect to be his sword like this?」She clicked her tongue.
「Stop putting on airs and just tell me already.」
「Listen up. What the third wife—no, that bitch—did to Theo and his mother was…」
Erika then went on to explain all the terrible things Axion and Aimil did to Theo and Cecilia.
Hulkus’s face quickly flushed red with anger. 「Are they nuts? How can they still call themselves people after doing such things?」
「Exactly. Theo’s reputation in the clan was abysmal even for an illegitimate child, and that’s the reason why. It was also why people thought Cecilia was a harlot.」
「Axion, that son of bitch! I should have smashed his head in while he was still alive!」 Hulkus huffed and puffed, incensed. Then, something else occurred to him. 「Wait. How do you know all this, Sis? You were in seclusion training for most of that.」
「Oh, my dear, foolish little brother. In order to wear a crown, your head needs to be able to support the weight.」
「What are you talking about? Crowns aren’t that heavy.」
「...This is why I don’t like talking to dunces.」
Erika sighed, then decided to give up on explaining things to her meatheaded brother.
Her ultimate goal wasn’t just to become the head of the Lanke Clan. She wanted to help build the greatest clan in not just the North, but the world. If she couldn’t do it herself, she would at least closely aid someone else’s pursuit of that dream.
Since they were in the same boat for now, part of her plan required her to investigate Theo’s past. At first, she had only wanted to gauge Theo’s capabilities, but upon learning about his past, she had completely changed her mind.
‘My eyes didn’t deceive me. Theo is suited to become my eternal partner,’ Erika thought.
She didn’t mean that in a romantic sense, however. She meant that he was someone she could stand shoulder to shoulder with. Someone she could trust to have her back.
‘Whether this was his plan from the beginning or not, Theo’s going to be making a name for himself after taking down Lady Aimil and the central director. I need to be standing beside him when that happens.’
That was also why she warned Hulkus not to be rash.
「Anyway, standing by him and protecting him from the side is enough for us right now. Don’t ruin the moment with some half-baked sympathy.」
「Do I look stupid to you?」he asked. 「I know that much, at least.」
「I’m worried because you are stupid, Lil Bro.」
「Grrr!」
Hulkus wanted to give her a piece of his mind, but he decided to bite his tongue. Like she said, being able to protect Theo at his side was enough for now.

Eventually, the troops came upon Lady Aimil’s domain, the Rose Palace.
Theo’s eyes grew dark. Between his current and past life, he had lived here for decades. Nowhere else was more familiar to him than this.
Now, it was time to take it back.
Theo raised his flag high. Julius had given him command over this mission. “Attention, enforcers. Arrest the treasonous traitors.”
With his order, the elite forces of the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry and the Plum Blossom Palace charged forward.
Whoosh!
Theo became a flash of light as he jumped over the wall. Meanwhile, the Lanke siblings ran ahead of the troops, blasting the gate down with their magic.
Boom!
The gate collapsed, and their forces quickly rushed inside.
“Wh-what the…?”
“It’s the flag of Ragnar!”
“Why are they…?”
The butlers and maids of the palace started screaming in panic.
“Find the traitor, Aimil Troivan! Execute anyone who resists or refuses to cooperate!” Evelyn shouted, her voice echoing throughout the palace.
“Traitor…?”
“Why is Lady Aimil…?”
The palace servants couldn’t understand what was going on.
As the enforcers spread out between the first, second, and third floors, a group of men tried to stand in their way. It was Second Deputy Director Morgan and his subordinates, assigned by Ed to keep watch on Aimil.
“What is the meaning of this?” Morgan demanded. “This is not only Lady Aimil’s residence, but also the harem of the clan head! Show your respect—”
However, a sharp, swift gust of wind flew toward his neck, cutting him off and sending him skidding two steps back.
Clang!
Morgan barely managed to block the attack.
Evelyn glared at him furiously. “You should know better than anyone that shielding a traitor is a crime,” she hissed. “Oh, wait. I guess that doesn’t matter, does it? Since the CIB had taken part in the treason as well.”
“What unfounded claims are you making…?!” Morgan cried.
However, his eyes were shaking. ‘How do they know…? Did someone leak our intelligence?’
It was true that Ed and the CIB had long been scheming as the hidden blade of the Troivan Clan.
It was true that as the hidden blade of the Troivan Clan, Ed and the CIB had long been concocting their treasonous schemes. However, not once did they consider their actions “treason.” Rather, they believed that they were merely correcting what had gone wrong and returning things to their rightful place.
They had made their preparations slowly and meticulously, so how had they been compromised?
‘Did the Black Dragon tail us, perhaps…?’
That was the only explanation that Morgan could conjure. Ed and the Black Dragon had a long-standing feud.
He felt dazed, but he couldn’t afford to have a one-track mind right now. ‘The director is in danger!’
The only thing he cared about was the safety of Ed, who was currently away addressing matters related to the Lanke Clan.
“We will not honor any excuses or justifications. There will be no mercy over these charges.”
Whoosh—
Evelyn couldn't care less about Morgan’s busy mind. She pressured him once again with her furious winds.
C-clang!
Morgan was quickly cornered. All he could do was give orders. “CIB agents, protect Lady Aimil with your lives!” he shouted.
Boom! Ka-boom!
Explosions suddenly reverberated across the palace. However, they weren’t from traditional explosives. It was the sound of CIB agents tapping into their dormant potential. They were unleashing the «Reverse Blood Surge Technique», attempting to stop the enforcers even at the cost of their lives.
“For the Troivan Clan!”
“For the truth!”
The CIB agents rallied and a storm of aura blades clashed with each other.
In the midst of the intensifying conflict, Theo walked through the middle of the battlefield, holding his flag up high. Erika and Hulkus protected his sides, pushing away the agents charging toward him.
The CIB agents were far too strong for mere trainee swordsmen, but the duty of protecting the flag and the desire to help Theo with his vengeance empowered them.
‘There aren’t many places Aimil could hide in.’
Theo knew the layout of the Rose Palace better than anyone, so he already had a few ideas about where she might have been located.
Bang!
He slammed down the first room.
‘Not here.’
Bang!
‘It’s not here, either.’
Slam!
‘She’s not here.’
As he went up floor by floor, he painted a trail with the blood of his enemies.
‘Only one place remains,’ Theo thought while standing in front of the final room.
It was a room on the top floor that was previously used by Cecilia.
Bang!
Theo smashed down the door with a furious kick, revealing the entire room. Inside, between the maids and butlers huddled down in fear, Aimil stood with a smile, embracing a picture of Axion.
“My poor baby… You’re hungry, aren’t you?” she cooed. “Just wait a little longer. Mommy will cook your favorite mushroom soup. Mommy’s family just sent us some nice button mushrooms.”
‘She’s gone mad,’ Theo noted.
Maybe she was just trying to escape reality, but Aimil was clearly not right in the head. The boy she despised so much was standing right before her, but she hadn’t even spared him a glance.
Theo couldn’t believe that his mother had to be tormented for so long by such a pathetic woman…
Shnng—
With a quick, anticlimactic swing of his sword, he severed Aimil’s head, sending it tumbling to the floor.
Theo closed his eyes. A turbulent mix of emotions swirled within his heart.
