Chapter 68 - White-Armored Dragon Cavalry (3)
The dragoons simultaneously released the mechanism attached to the feet of their dragons.
Mana bombs. As a powder explosive engraved with explosive magic, it was a weapon commonly used in raids by the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry.
Boom, boom, ka-boom—!
Rumble rumble!
As mana bombs fell on the designated points, massive explosions shook the entire castle. The castle crumbled as it erupted into flames and blasts and shockwaves could be heard all over the place.
“We’re being attacked!”
“Stop them—agh!”
“Wh-where are they?”
“Th-they’re up in the skies!”
The soldiers defending the castle fell into chaos. They had expected additional dispatchment from the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry. However, they did not anticipate being attacked like this. The dragoons were so high up that they were barely a dot in the distance.
“Those crazy bastards… Do they not care about the hostages anymore…?!”
The executives turned pale as they realized the intentions of the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry too late.
Rumble rumble—
As mana bombs continued to rain down, Fort Blanqui was quickly destroyed.
Taking advantage of the chaos, they commenced their strike. The thirty-three dragoons all descended simultaneously.
As each dragoon landed, the ground trembled, kicking up dust and debris as if a cannonball had crashed down. The glares visible through their helmet were menacing, like will-o-wisps.
“Annihilate them all,” Evelyn ordered.
Whoosh whoosh—
With the drop of her order, each soldier quickly followed their designated route. Their plan was to wipe out everyone, including the leaders, in one swift, fell swoop.
Slash!
Each time the white swords glimmered, a scream followed.
“Aaaagh!”
“I-it’s the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry!”
“Block the entrances, now!”
“We’re trying, but they’re brute forcing their way in—Kgh!”
The members of the Black Skull fell without being able to put up any resistance. A few of them tried to negotiate by threatening the hostages, but each time, they were met with a merciless response.
Everywhere the dragoons passed through, a pool of blood was left behind.
A white storm was blowing through the castle.

「You’ve already been briefed, but I’ll explain again. Our objective is rescuing the hostages. However, the lives of our platoon take priority over hostages. Do not hesitate to abandon the hostages if the situation calls for it.」
Selford’s sound telepathy rang in their ears.
Erika was smiling from the excitement of seeing the actions of the front line right after joining.
Hulkus, on the other hand, was gripping his sword to tightly calm his racing heart.
As for Theo, he had a blank expression on his face.
‘Is this really his first mission? He looks like he’s done this many times before…’ Erin was baffled as she observed Theo.
Normally, new recruits showed two responses during their first mission. They were either excited like Erika, or they were unable to properly demonstrate their skills from being nervous like Hulkus.
Theo was far too calm. The cold look in his eyes… it was the look of a veteran, like the platoon captain’s.
‘Be real, Erin. As if that makes any sense. There’s no way he’s as experienced as Miss Evelyn. He’s probably just not the nervous type.’
Erin, who idolized Evelyn, shook her head.
「Let’s move out.」
With Selford’s command…
Thud! Stomp! Thump! Thump! Thud!
Their five-man group landed on the top of the castle.
It was the blue point marked on the map, where the hostages were likely being held.
“The enemies have also infiltrated here—”
One of the soldiers that was stationed there had their head quickly and ruthlessly cut off by Selford.
Slice—
Selford and Erin took the lead. Theo and Erika took the sides while Hulkus took the rear. It was the A-shape formation that they’d practiced over and over for the last three days—a formation efficient at breaking through short distances.
Smash! Slash! Crash—
Selford and Erin broke anything that was in their way, whether it be people or even a wall.
‘They’re unstoppable,’ Theo thought while observing the duo closely.
As an ex-member of the Black Snow, this was the first time he had been able to see the White-Armored dragoons in action up close.
He finally understood why all the countless factions in the northern region, including the 6 Snow Clans, feared the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry.
They were veterans who could immediately drop into action anywhere, unaffected by the local landscape. To their enemies, they were the literal embodiment of reapers from hell.
And today, the reapers were enraged from the loss of their comrades.
[Observing ‘Selford Gardner’]
[Selford Gardner (27/Male)
· Title: White-Haired Monster Sword
· Talent: Illegitimate child, free-spirited, anti-status quo, anti-fogey, merciless, anti-establishment.
· Status: Furious over the death of the platoon captain he respected.]
[Observing ‘Erin Negetieve’]
[Erin Negetieve (26/Female)
· Title: Whirlwind Sword
· Talent: Fast wind, swiftsword specialization, vivacious, comradery, self-sacrifice.
· Status: Worried that the new recruits will be too nervous and make mistakes, harming their comrades.]
In their status windows, Selford’s [merciless] and Erin’s [vivacious] talents caught Theo’s eyes. They were words that described each of them very well.
‘Selford’s sword path is very direct, while Erin’s is very arced. Selford breaks through while Erin assists. They’re so in tune with each other. I wonder if they regularly work together.’
The swordsmanship the two were using was clearly the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry's shared technique, the «Blade Barrage». It was a unique sword technique that unleashed dozens of sword strikes in an instant.
Because there wasn’t enough time, Theo had not been taught yet, but he was still getting inspired on how to utilize it.
Their swordsmanship, honed by harsh battles, was a completed, beautiful work of art.
Slash—
In that manner, their group arrived at their destination in an instant.
Smash!
Hulkus’s brute strength broke down the wall, opening the room with the hostages.
“It’s the White-Armored Dragon Cavalry!”
“The Ragnar Clan is here!”
“We’re saved!”
The hostages who were cowering in fear joyously welcomed the dragoons.
However, Selford’s face froze. ‘The number of hostages doesn’t add up.’
He was told that there were a total of twenty hostages, yet there were only twelve people present. Either they were being held elsewhere, or they died while putting up a resistance.
Whatever the case was, there was nothing he could do.
“Please don’t panic, and calmly follow us,” said Selford.
“Uhm… A few people were taken elsewhere…” one of the hostages spoke up.
“We’ve already dispatched people towards that direction. There’s no time. Please hurry up.”
“Ah, yes!”
Of course, Selford was lying. However, they really had no time.
The Black Skull was a little-known, newly formed terrorist group, but they should not be underestimated if they were capable of slaying Trainor and his squad. Though they were currently in chaos due to being ambushed, who knows what kind of resistance they’ll put on once they get their bearings. They had to move quickly while they still had the upper hand.

Fwooo!
While Theo helped Selford guide the hostages, he sharpened his senses.
‘Balmung might be somewhere in here.’
During his short time inside the fort, he had to somehow find Balmung and retrieve it.
‘It’s not in this room. Are they keeping the merchant’s wares elsewhere? Or did they already dispose of it?”
He didn’t have time to search.
Theo considered if he should ask the hostages, pretending that retrieving the goods was also part of the mission. However, he had to rule that option out. There were too many eyes watching, like Selford and Erin.
He might be able to make an excuse at the moment, but he would definitely be questioned about the item he retrieved later. He had to do it secretly, without anyone finding out.
‘Maybe I should fully demolish the fort and come look for it later.’
That could be an option, but he would then have to figure out a way to demolish the fort.
In other words, it wasn’t possible right now.
‘Damn it. There has to be a way…!’
As Theo’s head was filled with worry…
Ba-thump, ba-thump, ba-thump—
Suddenly, Theo’s heart started to hammer. He felt an unease that made him stand upright.
‘…What was that?’
Sometimes, the Dragon Heart presented the instincts of a wild animal. At that moment, that instinct was screaming. Something was definitely here!
Theo followed his instincts and swung the Drake Blade at one of the bare walls. As Erika was about to ask what he was doing, the wall exploded.
Smash!
Klang—
A giant hammer that was aiming for the hostages by breaking through the wall collided against the Drake Blade and was flung away.
‘Kgh! What unbelievable strength…!’ Theo thought while staggering backward.
Who was this? How was he capable of pushing back his [Colossal Might]?
“Tch. What a shame. I wanted to get you all in one go. But one of you has a keen sense like me, I see.”
A giant man revealed himself out from the dust cloud. With a warhammer in one hand, he gazed over the surroundings.
The hostages suddenly trembled in fear.
“I-i-it’s him! He’s the man that threw us in here…! And the one that dragged away our companions!” One of the hostages yelled in panic.
Selford quickly positioned himself between the giant man and the hostages.
“Hammer Baldy?” asked Selford.
Hearing those words, the giant man scowled, “Fuck you! Out of all my nicknames, why is that the one you’re calling me by? This is why I hate you fucking Ragnars. I’ll have to kill you all so you stop calling me that!”
“Why is someone like you here? Were you the secret helper of the Black Skull?”
“Who knows? Isn’t it the job of you wise guys to figure that out?” mocked the giant man.
Instead of responding further, Selford quietly readied a stance.
The ‘Hammer Baldy’, Slo Geng.
Unlike his silly nickname, he was a high member of an infamous terrorist organization in the Northern Region. As he was exceptionally skilled, Selford couldn’t guarantee a victory alone.
Erin stood next to Selford and gripped her sword tight.
「As soon as we clash, run away.」 Erin warned the new recruits.
“You’re planning on distracting me while the hostages escape, right? As if I’d let you!” Slo chuckled, having read them like a book.
While charging toward the hostages, he quickly changed course toward Theo and the Lanke siblings.
“Shit…!” Selford and Erin quickly tried to block him.
However, Slo was already almost at the recruits.
Whoosh!
He was menacing, like a battering ram ready to crash into a castle gate.
However…
“Thanks to you, finding it will be easier.”
“......?!”
Theo smiled as he stood directly in the line of Slo’s charge.
Vzzzzzt!
Theo drew his White Moonlight Blade, charged with lightning that was as dark as the night.
