Chapter 516
Zetz was completely outplayed.
With his right wing severed, Zetz was plummeting. Simon had blown up all the footholds around him, and below him was nothing but an endless pit going beneath the clouds.
In the sky arena, falling beyond the clouds meant an automatic 'out-of-bounds' ruling. It'd be an instant loss no matter how much barrier gauge remained.
'I can't… just…'
Zetz clenched his wing, opening his eyes wide with determination.
'…let it end like this!!!'
He hastily attempted to modify his flight magic circle. Sacrificing his wings, he planned to gather the jet-black in them to release a burst of pure jet-black to propel himself forward.
'Go!'
Bwooooooooooooosh!
His jet-black wings threw him upward, and soon…
He crashed onto the outermost pillars of the sky arena.
Ka-thud, ka-thud, thunk!!
Of course, it would be greedy of him to ask for a smooth landing. He tumbled over and over across the ground several times before slamming into the fence near the audience and bouncing off.
The nearby spectators gasped in shock, and the commentator cried out in anguish as he pulled his hair.
"Z-Zetz!"
"Are you alright?!"
Zetz trembled as he forced his torso back up.
'Kugh… I somehow survived thanks to the barrier, but…'
[Simon Polentia: 79%]
[Zetz Simerat: 25%]
His barrier gauge had plunged to the twenties in an instant, flashing red in warning.
As Zetz lifted his head, he saw Simon leisurely flying toward him, wearing his 'Royal Bodyguard Flight Suit'.
"Hehe…!"
Zetz struggled to his feet.
"A skeleton that leaps through the sky, and on top of that, flight armor made from that very skeleton. You really had some impressive tricks up your sleeve, Simon."
Simon looked down at him.
"You still have the energy to compliment me?"
"Of course!"
Zetz grabbed his uniform shirt and tore it open. He revealed a magic circle drawn onto his abdomen.
"It just means I had something big prepared, too!"
Zetz's magic circle activated instantly.
{Zetz Original - Ignipotence}
Fwooooooooooosh!
A storm of green flames erupted from the magic circle on his abdomen, surging in all directions.
'This spell has a maximum range of 1,800 meters! I've got you perfectly in my sights!'
As the flames rushed toward him, Simon waved his hand in a circle. The emerald glow drained from the nearby royal bodyguards, their Cloud converging beside him to form a magic circle.
Simon then opened a subspace behind the circle.
"Come forth, my knights."
{Simon Original - Royal Bodyguards & Blade Storm}
Fshwiiiiiiiiiiish!
Two skeleton knights appeared from the subspace, both dyed in turquoise.
The typical white vortexes transformed into massive emerald whirlwinds, piercing through the storm of flames like a pair of lances.
'Wh-Wh-Wh-What in the world is that?!'
Zetz rushed to cancel his dark spell, putting all his focus into conjuring a jet-black shield.
Clang!
Despite that, the twin knights' whirlwinds shattered the jet-black shield before they came to a halt. At the same time, they seized Zetz' arms from both sides and pinned him to the ground.
"What the!"
Shiiiiing…!
Zetz' gaze turned upward. The skeleton knights, the flight suit Simon wore, and every last bit of his royal bodyguards' Cloud converged at Simon's center, blinking in the shape of a black cross before taking the shape of an arrow.
"Damn it!!"
Zetz thrashed his arms in desperation, but the knights refused to let go.
{Simon Remake - Blood Arrow}
Even as Simon started to fall, the dark arrow was unleashed.
"…Hah."
The skeleton knights finally released his arms and stepped back. Zetz stared at the approaching black arrow, letting out a resigned chuckle.
"Honestly, he's insanely strong…"
Ka…toooooosh!!!
A jet-black explosion engulfed Zetz, quickly fanning outward from the impact point.
"Kyaaaah!"
The massive shockwave roared through the arena, forcing students in the stands to duck their heads or else face the buffeting winds.
[Simon Polentia: 79%]
[Zetz Simerat: 0%]
[The winner is…!]
The referee raised his arm high.
[Kizen's student council president, Simon Polentia!]
The Alland transfer students erupted into cheers. Meanwhile, the Sierra students slumped in disappointed resignation. A few also clapped in appreciation of the great match.
"Tch, I thought we had a shot this year, with it being a second-year president and all."
"Well, Kizen is still Kizen, after all."
The Sierra students accepted their defeat cleanly and they slowly started to leave the arena.
Meanwhile, as he removed what was left of his flight suit, Simon descended lightly onto the hill where Zetz had fallen.
Gathering up his scattered skeletons, Simon strode toward the audience stands.
'Amazing.'
'Next year, I'll be at that school, too…!'
The admiring gazes of Sierra's first-year students were all focused on Simon.

"Well then."
In the VIP room, Jane turned around and started walking as she spoke.
"I'm counting on you with the cleaning duties, President. When you start work next month, the head of the servant team will inform you of your responsibilities."
"…Kugh!"
With his face bright red, the president of Sierra clenched his trembling fist.
Later that evening.
"I feel so aliiive."
Simon indulged in the luxury of using Sierra's hot spring alone. As he soaked in the steaming hot water, his fatigue melted away.
'I did hear that Sierra was famous for its hot springs. I guess it's true.'
Simon leaned back. As he blankly stared at the moist ceiling, thoughts of his fellow student council members suddenly came to mind.
'I wonder if everyone's doing well on their mission evaluations.'
He had hoped to enjoy a rare moment of sentimentality, but the hot spring was too hot to stay in for more than an hour.
Leaving the hot spring, Simon put on the outdoor robe Sierra had prepared for him in advance and stepped outside. He stretched as he gazed at the darkening night sky.
It has been a while since he felt this relaxed.
'Barely a moment after getting back from Tarados, I was sent to tour the three great necromancer schools… I've barely had time to take a break.'
He was to stay in Sierra for the night, and the next morning, he would depart for Moiran, the last of the three great necromancer schools.
Sierra had provided an entire guesthouse, just five minutes from the hot spring, for his stay.
Simon walked leisurely toward the guesthouse. After all the duels he had, he had gotten used to the altitude sickness.
"You're the student council president of Kizen, right?"
"Hm?"
Simon turned his head toward the voice.
A man with an eye completely swallowed by blackness stood leaning against a tree.
"Could you spare a moment?"
He was wearing a red coat over his uniform. It was similar in design to Simon's student council president coat.
'Could this be…?'
"I'm Roberto, the student council president of Sierra. A third-year."
He reached his hand out. Simon quickly fixed his voice and shook the man's hand.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Simon Polentia, the student council president of Kizen."
After finishing the brief handshake, Roberto gestured to the side.
"This isn't the best place to talk. Why don't we move somewhere else?"
"…Ah, yes. Sure."
Roberto led Simon to a nearby school building.
With the way he was dressed at the moment in the coolness of the night air, Simon had to rub his arms to head himself up. Thankfully, the building they stepped into was pretty warm.
"Here we are."
Roberto opened the door to a room for him, and Simon stepped in without much suspicion.
"Oh."
Inside, a group of Sierra students had gathered. Some were still in their uniforms, while others looked relaxed, wearing comfortable clothes as if they had just washed up like Simon did.
Among them was Zetz, Simon's opponent earlier today.
"Simon Polentia!"
Zetz stood up, grinding his teeth. Then, he strode toward Simon, pointing his finger at him.
"You think you can just leave after beating me? No way I'm letting that happen!"
Confused, Simon tilted his head.

"Ugh, what's going on?!"
"Why do we have to listen to the Sierra students?!"
The transfer students from Alland, being woken up after sleeping in their dorms, were being dragged over by the Sierra students. One of the girls who brought them out turned around and said,
"Well, the more the merrier. The student council president of Kizen is here, too."
"Simon is?!"
Benz hurriedly ran over and flung open the door.
"Hey, Simon! You didn't get avenged or anything, did y—?!"
Bwahahaha!
But the scene before Benz was completely different from what he had imagined.
In the lively atmosphere, everyone was laughing loudly. Students were sprawled out on the floor or across chairs, drinking champagne and chatting.
The tables were also loaded with delicious food. Just as Benz entered, Zetz was showing off some kind of trick, sending everyone into fits of laughter.
"Aland, you're late!"
Benz looked around in confusion. Then, he spotted Simon happily clinking champagne glasses with Sierra's student council president in the center of the room.
"Simon! What are you doing here?"
"Hm?"
Simon took a sip of his champagne.
"They invited me to join their party, as it's their last night in Sierra, so…"
Benz let out a bitter smile.
"…You scared me for a second. What if this was some kind of setup for revenge?"
"Professor Jane is here, too, and if things went bad, I could get out on my own, so."
"Oh man, look at your confidence, lil bro!"
Said Roberto, the student council president, in a friendly tone as he threw an arm around Simon's shoulder. His face was flushed red from champagne.
Simon let out an awkward laugh.
"Don't just space out there, enjoy yourselves, Alland."
Zetz approached, handed Benz a fresh glass of champagne, and shrugged.
"Or what, are you guys still sulking over the loss of last year's 'Sierra-Alland Duel'?"
As Zetz struck a nerve, Benz flared up and shouted,
"It's not the Sierra-Alland duel! It's the Alland-Sierra duel! And you guys bribed the referee on that one, and—!"
"Phew, here we go again, clinging to last year's rabble. The loser sure talks a lot~"
"You brought it up first!"
Benz turned his furious gaze toward Simon.
"Simon! Say it right here, right now! How was it after the assessment duel? Who's stronger? Me, or that Sierra bastard?"
Just then, an almost unreal silence fell over the room.
Fierce eyes from every direction were locked onto Simon, pressuring him. Simon smiled bitterly and waved his hand in refusal.
"The terrain and conditions were completely different, so it's hard to judge strength based on just the one fight…"
"Then how about we put it this way, lil bro?"
Roberto clinked his glass against Simon's as he stepped closer.
"Which one was even a little 'more' tricky?"
"Hmm…"
Simon scratched the side of his head.
"Then, I guess, after all, Zetz was a bit more—"
"Wooooooooaaaaaaaah!"
The Sierra students cheered loudly, throwing snacks and treats into the air like confetti.
"Unofficial Sierra-Alland, the winner is Sierra!"
"No way!"
Screamed Benz in despair.
"Simon, you traitor! You really think I was easier than that flying bastard? Guys! Do you really think this makes any sense…?!"
"Ugh, Benz, you really shouldn't have been the one to fight the assessment duel."
The other two Alland transfer students cleanly accepted it, grabbed their champagne, and mingled with the Sierra students. Seeing that, Benz pointed at them, yelling, "Hey!"
"How disgraceful, you grasshoppers!"
"Hahahahaha!"
And so, students from the three rarely gathered schools partied together and had a great time.
The night of youth deepened.

The next morning.
Jane turned around in front of the teleportation magic circle.
"Is everyone ready?"
"Yes!"
As they finished with Sierra, new companions had joined once again. With Zetz and two other students—both girls—a total of six transfer students had joined Kizen.
"Our final destination is Moiran."
"…Moiran."
Benz and Zetz both scowled simultaneously. Simon, wearing his student council coat, turned around.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just that…"
"Those bastards from Moiran. It's hard to like them."
Jane placed her hands on her hips.
"Silence."
"Yes, ma'am! Sorry, ma'am!"
"The transfer student assessment duel against Moiran is a little different. As in previous years, it'll be conducted as a three-on-three team duel."
Simon heard Benz muttering, "They could just do it like everyone else… Always trying to stand out!"
Simon looked at Jane.
"Professor, if it's a three-on-three duel, don't we need to balance the numbers?"
"There's no need to worry about that."
Jane brushed her hair back, her face never changing.
"I have qualified students on standby. They should have arrived by now, so we'll see them once we get to Moiran. Now, let's go."
"Hm?"
Today is supposed to be the final day of the mission evaluation. Who could possibly be available?
With that question lingering in his mind, Simon stepped toward the teleportation magic circle leading to the last necromancer school: Moiran.
