Chapter 393

Silage and the forces of the Heavenly Blood were helplessly surrounded.

On the east, there were zombies led by Prince, on the west, corpse spiders led by Elizabeth, and on the north, skull wings led by Akemus. Finally, on the front, the south, mummies were directly commanded by Simon.

No matter where they looked, there was no escape route in sight. Silage's expression hardened, too.

"Golos, Gila, Anvante. Split into three groups and lead the forces against the undead."

"Yes, archbishop!"

Receiving the order, the three bishops quickly dispersed.

"I'll take the Commander myself."

Silage whirred up jet-black and faced the front. Simon and his mummies were closing in.

* * *

"Zombies, huh?"

Holding two blood-red crosses in his hands, Golos—one of the bishops of Heavenly Blood—was heading toward the east flank.

Combat-ready cultists and blood zombies followed him.

[Hmm?]

Prince, who was running while pressing his crown tightly against his head, spotted his foe in turn.

[What? A member of Heavenly Blood is holding a cross?]

"In the name of the goddess Deva, I shall smite the unholy!"

Swish!

Golos jumped off the ground and launched himself into the air, swinging his blood-stained crosses. Stopping in place, Prince crossed his arms in front of him to form an X.

Ka-toosh!

With a loud roar, the ground beneath Prince caved in. Prince made a slight frown.

[What are you talking about? Isn't Deva the goddess worshiped by the people in Efnel?]

"They are misguided!"

The veins on Golos' forehead bulged.

"They wield their holy right to twist the goddess's teachings into a means of control! Us, Heavenly Blood, are the true followers of the goddess Deva!"

[Oh, man!]

Prince uncrossed his arms with force, pushing Golos flying backward.

[I know we've only exchanged a few words, but I can already tell how twisted your thoughts are.]

"Don't think for a moment that an unholy undead like you can judge me!"

Golos raised his two red crosses again.

"The Apostle's resurrection is the Goddess' true will!"

[I don't really understand that, anyway.]

Tap!

Prince raised his fists.

[I can very much see that you're a twisted villain, though!]

Slaaaaam!

The two charged at each other. Despite their arguments being parallel in nature, the distance between them quickly narrowed.

Smack! Thud! Crush!

Soon, Prince and Golos exchanged fierce blows between fists and crosses. The simple brawl was enough for sandstorms to start swirling around them

"Kugh!"

Golos staggered back.

'To think he has strength to overpower me, a bishop!'

[Haha!!]

Prince's eyes shone. The crown he was wearing sparkled, too.

Golos tensed up and instinctively crouched down low, when…

Thud!

Crush!

The pain came from behind. Before he knew it, his own blood zombies had latched onto his shoulders, neck, and thighs, biting into him.

"What the?!"

[How does it feel to be turned on by your allies?]

Prince's fist headed straight toward Golos' face.

[Hidden-ace punch!]

Thwaaaaaaaaaaack!

The punch couldn’t have been any more perfect.

Golos' nose crumpled, and blood sprayed from his mouth and the mush that remained of his nose.

The battered bishop was sent flying at an incredible speed, spinning several times in the air before crashing into the sandy ground far away. Even there, blood zombies swarmed over his fallen body and started biting into him.

And on top of that…

[Guooooooooooooh!]

Other Heavenly Blood cultists were stuck fighting against the blood zombies, who were supposed to be their allies.

Looking at this, Prince fiddled with his crown.

[Hmm, it feels like it's working better than usual, doesn't it?]

Of course, his attack didn’t end there.

[Go!]

The notorious pitch-black-wave-of-zombies surged over Prince and engulfed Golos' troops.

* * *

Slaaaash!

Slaaaaaaash!

Every time the dark-blue line passed through the air, the heads of blood zombies flew.

Some cultists quickly figured out the attack and tried to block the line with their blades, but the line even sliced through weapons, advancing relentlessly.

"Kugh!"

And Gila, the second bishop of the Heavenly Blood, battling on the west side…

She leaped into the air to dodge the line, panting heavily. The piercing on her tongue shone.

[What are you doing right now, human?]

Sneered Elizabeth.

[Are you just going to leave your subordinates like this?]

"Kugh!"

While Gila was busy dealing with Elizabeth, corpse spiders were assaulting the cultists.

As Elizabeth raised her right arm with her palm facing the sky, spider webs shot out like clotheslines into the air. The corpse spiders attached their webs to them, then swung like pendulums, stabbing their venomous fangs into the cultists' necks.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Cultists were falling one by one.

"You monsters!"

Gila activated a magic circle.

Then, blood spurted out from the piercings all over her body, including the one on her tongue, soaking the ground.

"Come forth!"

She dropped eight 'golem cores' from her subspace onto the ground.

Glug glug glug!

Soon, the blood on the ground began to gather around the cores, which started swelling like balloons.

[Oh?]

"This is my true power."

Eight blood golems were rising around Gila.

"I'm invincible when connected to these eight blood golems. No matter the damage, I'll regenerate it all."

Just then, one of the blood golems grabbed a nearby cultist and absorbed its blood. The shoulder wound Gila had received earlier from Elizabeth was quickly healed.

"No one can break through my defen—!"

Shiing, shiing, shiing.

A series of dark-blue flashes flickered all around the blood golems, and thin lines were drawn across them.

[How pathetic.]

Elizabeth shook her arms, and with a sickening crack, all eight golems collapsed at once.

"…Ah!"

Elizabeth's lips twisted into a smirk.

[How strange. The blood golems our master learned in Kizen weren't this weak… Yours may be numerous, yet they are no better than toys.]

Twip.

T-Twip.

This time, countless thin lines were drawn on Gila's body.

[And a key characteristic of a blood golem…]

Elizabeth smiled evilly.

[If I remember correctly, they share their damage with their caster, right?]

"W-Wait!"

Looking at the countless scratches appearing all over her body, Gila tore at her hair.

"N—!!"

Fwooooooooooooooooosh!

Red blood rose up like an explosion, and the mince that was once Gila never moved again.

Elizabeth dusted off her hands disdainfully, like ridding herself of filth.

"You weren't even worth dirtying my hands for. My darlings, leave none alive. Annihilate our master's enemies!"

Kiiiish!

The swarm of corpse spiders descended on the cultists like hawks on their prey.

The northern side of the desert was filled with the cries of monster birds.

The new undead of the Seventh Legion, skull wings.

They were built from harpies, half-human, half-bird monsters. Their head and upper body was composed of human skulls and bones, while its lower half consisted of a bird's thin, fragile bones.

And as an undead, the jet-black produced from the skull wing's core mostly went toward their wings.

Although they were formed from bones, patches of feathers were made from jet-black. They utilized these feathers to soar through the air at high speeds, swooping down to seize prey on the ground with their legs.

"U-Uwaaaaaah!"

Like that, they then drop their prey from high above or bite their necks.

"Watch out for the falling feathers!"

"These undead are real annoying!"

And as these Skull wings flew, their feathers naturally fell off, and these contained curses that were extremely harmful to living things.

Plague.

Burn.

Agony.

Various curses were randomly embedded within.

The moment someone is captured by a skull wing and enveloped in its feathers, they would struggle in excruciating pain until death.

"They keep coming from the sky!"

"Fire back with the Blood Arrows!"

Lacking anti-air abilities, the blood zombies weren't much of a help. They were merely snatched up by the skull wings after wandering aimlessly.

Most of the Heavenly Blood cultists' minds were also already wrecked by the side-effects of the blood core and drug abuse. There was no way that they could respond properly.

And in the highest skies…

The Ancient Undead 'Akemus' watched the enemies from above with crossed arms.

His dark-blue feathered wings made with Simon’s jet-black flapped majestically behind him.

[I did build the nest, but it's a shame we are still limited in number.]

Akemus, having just recently begun mass-producing undead, had far fewer forces than Prince or Elizabeth. He was operating his skull wings like elites, conserving them however he could.

However…

[To think ten have been defeated already.]

The man with a topknot, holding tonfas in both hands, 'Anvante', one of the bishops of Heavenly Blood.

He was strong.

He had taken down more than ten skull wings by himself. The ones that had been hit by his bullets were sprawled on the ground.

"When do you plan on coming down, undead captain?"

Taunted the man, pointing his tonfa at the sky.

With a cold face, Akemus shot upward.

Then…

Fwoooooooooooooooooosh!

Like a black comet, Akemus descended in seconds, crashing toward Anvante.

Ka-toooosh!

A loud roar rang out, and sand shot up into the air like a fountain.

Swaaaaaa…

When the sand settled, Akemus' foot and Anvante's tonfa were locked in a tense standoff, pushing against each other.

"I'm different from Golos or Gila."

Tap!

Anvante aimed his other tonfa at Akemus.

Rat-ta-ta-tat!

Blood Bullets poured out from the holes in the tonfa.

Seeing this, Akemus backed off while shielding himself with his wings.

[Hmph.]

He frowned. The feathers of his wings, which were sturdier than steel, were now riddled with holes and starting to fall out.

"I don't give a damn about Heavenly Blood or whatever. I'm just a mercenary from the neutral area. I only got recruited because I'm fucking strong."

Anvante shrugged his shoulders and continued,

"You look strong, too, so why don't we just take it easy and let things pass?"

[…Take it easy?]

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrumble!

A huge amount of jet-black began to pour out of Akemus' body.

[There will be no such thing as easy! I have sworn to burn my body, mind, and soul for my young master. And…!]

Akemus' usually stern and calm mouth was ripped open like a monster's.

[How dare you damage the wings my master gave me!!]

Kieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!

A sound-based curse spread out, causing cultists to collapse as blood poured from their ears. Even blood zombies were knocked out.

[I'll kill you, human!!]

"O-Oh…"

Anvante realized he'd made a mistake. Perhaps the worst mistake of what little might remain of his life.

Akemus charged at him, draped in a thick veil of jet-black.

* * *

"Charge."

Rrrrrrrrrrrrumble!

Simon directly led thousands of mummies to attack Silage's main force.

The Ancient Undead summoned by Herseva were an immense force, so stalling for time would've worked in their favor. But unfortunately, Herseva didn't have the luxury of time.

The conscription had only bought a bit more time before the barrier would break, and Herseva's power was nearing its limit.

Once the barrier broke, all their advantages would vanish.

Unlike the Heavenly Blood cultists, who had come through a portal, the Ancient Undead were only temporarily 'summoned' by Herseva's power. When Herseva's domain closed, the other undead would scatter.

So, Simon made a decision.

[Gyagyagyagyaaa!]

[Gyagyagya!]

To strike Silage by himself.

"Come forth."

The magic circle drawn around Simon's waist shone. A turquoise flash surged out, dwelling on the mummies around him.

Their bandages turned turquoise, and their eyes also flashed with light.

{Simon Original - Mummy Royal Bodyguards}

He successfully turned ten mummies into royal bodyguards.

These mummies, now directly under Simon's command, stayed close by his side.

"Go, break through!"

Shouted SImon.

"Stop them!"

Silage let the blood zombies and fanatics charge in. The two forces collided, and an all-out brawl formed in the center.

Zombies and mummies bit into each other while the cultists unleashed their blood magic.

"Get the necromancer first!"

Heavenly Blood cultists targeted Simon from above.

However…

Fwiiiip!

The bandages glowing an emerald green shot out, slicing or knocking any spells away.

The mummies, now bearing the name of the ‘royal bodyguard’, undead supposed to protect the Commander, were exceptionally strong.

[Gyagyagyagyagyah!]

In the meantime, the regular mummies reached Silage.

Silage, still seemingly suffering from the pain in his heart, clutched the left side of his chest with a grimace.

"Tch."

As he reached his arm out, countless drops of blood shot forward, causing a chain of Blood Explosions across the front lines. Despite the technique consuming blood, he hasn't held back from using it.

Ka-to-toosh!

Ka-booom!

Torn apart and filled with blood, the mummies collapsed to the ground. But trampling over their fallen comrades, more mummies continued to charge forward.

"How bothersome."

Just as Silage was about to cast another powerful spell…

Shfwip!

A bandage shot up from the ground, slicing through Silage's leg.

"!"

His leg fell to the sandy ground. Before he knew it, one of the royal bodyguard mummies had appeared from the ground, its eyes glowing ominously.

"How does it feel to be struck down by a skill you taught?"

As the blood explosion cleared, Simon was approaching with the Greatsword of Destruction.

Silage was smiling wildly.

"I see, so I did teach a baby of a monster after all."

Blood quickly filled the empty space where Silage's right foot should have been, forming a temporary foot.

Simon leaped with all his might and swung the greatsword down. In response, Silage formed a blood sword in his hand and swung upward.

Claaaaaaaaang!

The two men's swords clashed in the air, creating a massive shockwave.

Their eyes met between the swords, both gleaming.
