Chapter 29 - Intermittent Explosive Disorder
Camouflage was a skill from the Darkness Sniper. It was just B-rank, but it was still pretty useful. Since it lowered an enemy’s perception of you, it meant that you also drew less aggro.
‘It’s an unnecessary skill for a tank. Fortunately, I have no intention of tanking this time around.’
This time, I would be a DPS. One that could solve everything by himself.
‘For that, I need to hide my face so I can operate as Amon more freely.’
Camouflage could transform my face slightly, but that was it. The change was so subtle that it was almost unnoticeable, so there was still a good chance that I would be recognized. Therefore, I ultimately decided to use the B-rank Skill Upgrade Orb on it.
‘A-rank should let me change my face completely.’
[Using Skill Upgrade Orb (B).]
[Camouflage's rank has been upgraded B → A.]
▷ Camouflage (A)
— Effect: You can fully transform your face. It significantly lowers the chance of someone perceiving you. Your face will be recorded as static in videos.
Upgrading the skill improved the transformation effect alongside the perception effect. With this, I could hide my identity completely.
That was what I did before I went looking for Dopal.
Finding the bastard itself wasn’t hard at all. All I had to do was read the traces of mana left by the mana parasite that I had planted in his body. I took pride in being better at reading mana than anyone else, so the search was a piece of cake.
As I landed on the ground, I deactivated Winged Ascent, and my angel wings disappeared.
“Jo Dopal, it’s time for you to go,” I said.
“What? Go where?”
Wearing Dopal’s face, I adopted a demonic smile. “There is only one place meant for a guy like you. Hell.”
“What the fuck?!” Dopal exclaimed. “Am I high or something…? Why am I looking at my own face…?”
“Haven’t you heard? The urban legend saying that you’d die if you met your doppelganger?”
“Don’t talk to me using my own face. It’s creepy as fuck.”
“Whatever the case may be, you need to go to hell.”
“Piss off,” Dopal spat, giving me the middle finger.
He wasn’t afraid of me yet, it seemed. However, I planned on bringing him to knees and making him beg soon enough.
‘It’s over for him once he realizes the tremendous gap in our strength.’
Before I could do that, however, I needed to rescue the civilian first. I spread my hand out and chanted the activation phrase in my mind.
‘Death Prison.’
Something fell from the sky.
Thud!
In an instant, Dopal became trapped in a prison cell made of mana.
“Wh-what the? The fuck is this?” Dopal shouted, reaching for the prison bars.
Vzzzt!
Once he came into contact with them, he cried aloud in pain, immediately flinching backward. The cell’s bars dealt damage when they were touched.
‘Death Prison is an S-rank skill from the Death Warden. Because it can both trap and damage a target, it’s perfect for imprisoning someone like this.’
However, the prison wasn’t composed of physical materials, so if you could endure the pain, it was still possible to escape through brute force.
The pain made Dopal too hesitant to even try anything like that, though. I took this opportunity to take care of the victim.
“Now’s your chance,” I said to her. “Take the car and escape.”
“But I don’t have the keys…”
“Don’t worry about that.”
I pointed to Dopal’s pocket.
‘Charming Whip.’
Charming Whip was an A-rank skill of the Bewitching Succubus. It pulled an enemy toward you before dealing damage. However, what if I used it on an object instead of an opponent?
Fwip!
“Huh?”
I snatched the car keys from Dopal’s pocket. Dopal was bewildered as the whip extended from my hand and robbed him blind.
To use it like this required extreme finesse, but neither of these two would even realize that.
“Here,” I said, handing the woman the car keys.
She quickly took it and bowed. “Th-thank you.”
“Now, get going.” I shooed her away with my hand. I didn’t want her witnessing the horrific scene that was about to unfold.
Dopal had no choice but to just stand there and watch as the woman drove away.
“That bitch,” he seethed. “How dare she take my car—huh?!”
Fshoo—
The prison disappeared. The duration of the skill had run out.
However, the woman was already long gone.
“Gah… Fucking shit on a stick!” Dopal shouted in fury, his face completely red. “You ugly son of a bitch… I’m going to make sure you die a painful death.”
“I’m you. You’re not going to forget that, are you?” I asked.
“Shut it!”
He approached me with a vicious look, his fist wound tight.
A while back, he would have posed a bit of a threat to me. Now, though, he just looked comical.
‘Is he out of his mind? I’ve shown him that I could use at least four skills, yet he’s still trying to fight me?’
Winged Ascent, Camouflage, Death Prison, and Charming Whip. I had employed all these skills, yet he still stalked toward me fearlessly.
‘Does he think all my skills are on cooldown or something?’
Maybe he thought that this was the opportunity to fight back. Unfortunately for him, I still had plenty of unused skills up my sleeve.
‘I can beat a guy like this without even using any skills, though.’
I was confident that the difference between us was akin to the difference between a mouse and a tiger. There was no chance I would lose against him.
“If you’re so cocky, come at me,” I taunted him, motioning him closer with my hand.
I wanted to enrage him as much as possible.

‘That motherfucker…!’ thought Dopal.
Being taunted by someone wearing his own face made him feel like he was about to blow a fuse.
‘I don’t know how you can be so confident, but you’re dead to me.’
This mysterious guy had cost him his prey.
‘No need to be scared just because he can use multiple skills.’
Whatever the case may be, he should have been out of juice by now. Dopal had to strike while his enemy’s skills were on cooldown.
With how cocky the guy was being, this was an opportune moment.
‘However, I need luck to be on my side.’
The only skill he possessed was Dice Roll. It increased his stats depending on a roll of the die, so it was a helpful skill that enabled his escape from jail.
‘May Lady Luck be on my side!’
He activated Dice Roll, and...
[Rolling the dice.]
[You have rolled a 6.]
He hit the jackpot.
[All stats will temporarily increase by 6.]
[The duration will be 1 minute.]
‘Yes! There we go!’
He couldn’t believe his luck. Thanks to the high roll, all his stats were now 13. With this stat spread, he was confident that he could even beat Amon. This random guy was going to be a piece of cake.
Dopal chuckled ominously.
“Why are you laughing?” his opponent asked. “Are you bipolar or something?
“I’m not bipolar, but I do have intermittent explosive disorder.”
“Oh. You have anger management problems?”
“I’ve been good about holding back my anger, yet you really had to go and press my buttons.”
Dopal suddenly stopped within arms reach of the stranger.
“You’re dead meat,” he said.
“Who? You?”
“No, you. You bastard!”
Dopal punched with explosive strength. He was confident that the guy wouldn’t be able to dodge a sudden attack at such a close distance.
However, little did he know… he was a frog in a well.
And his opponent was Amon.
“Huh? Where did he go?” he asked, suddenly confused.
“Over here.”
Dopal quickly turned toward the sound of the voice.
‘Where is he?’
However, his opponent had already quickly shifted into his blind spot.
Wham!
“Aaauuugh!”
Flop!
His knees buckled as he collapsed onto the ground. The pain in his groin made him feel like he had been run over by a truck.
“Are you really crying after a single hit? Just because you were hit there?” the guy taunted.
Dopal grunted ‘Easy for you to fucking say,’ he thought.
He had wanted to say it out loud, but no sound could escape him besides an agonizing cry.
“Hey, Dopal. The power you have is meant for cleaning the Labyrinth. It’s not meant for you to prey on women to satiate your own personal desires.”
“Uuugh…”
“So, I think it’d be best if you didn’t have your balls anymore. You can’t be tempted to use what you don’t have.”
“Son of a bitch…”
His opponent just smirked at him. Dopal couldn’t believe how punchable his own face looked.
“You’re squirming in pain, but that’s all you have to say? I guess you really do have IED,” the guy said. He slapped Dopal across the face.
Smack!
Then, he did it again.
Smack! Smack!
And again, and again…
Dopal’s cheeks quickly turned red and his lips began to bleed. When his cheeks began to bruise purple, he finally acknowledged the difference in their strength.
“S-stop! Stop!” he cried.
‘He’s so fast my eyes can’t follow him,’ he thought. ‘I could never beat him.’
His opponent was someone that was capable of disappearing like a ghost right in front of him, and by now, his skills should have finished cooling down.
Dopal had no choice but to pretend to beg for his life.
“P-please stop! I’m sorry!”
“Huh? I thought you said you had IED? Why don’t you curse me out some more?” the stranger taunted.
“I-I’ve been cured! You treated it! So, please stop hitting me! I promise I’ll never do it again!”
“What will you never do again? Say it in your own words.”
As much as it hurt his pride, Dopal went with it.
“A-assaulting a woman,” he admitted.
“And?”
“Um…” Dopal thought for a good moment before answering. “Picking a fight with you…”
“And?”
“There’s more…?”
He couldn’t think of anything else.
Smack!
His cheeks were now numb and bleeding. Tears started swelling up in his eyes, and he started to sob.
“Don’t be such a piss baby. Speak up,” the other man commanded. “What else did you do wrong?”
“Uh… Well… I talked back to you?”
“And?”
“I honestly don’t—”
The guy slapped Dopal once again. Hard.
“At least think for a second before responding, dumbass,” he scolded.
Dopal sniffled pitifully. He was worried that he might die at this rate.
“I-I’m sorry, but I can’t think of anything!” he cried.
“You impersonated me.”
“Ah…”
‘Right. I impersonated someone. That’s also a crime, but... Wait. What did he just say?’
“What? Are you saying I impersonated you?” Dopal asked.
“Yeah.”
However, that could only mean…
“A-are you… A-Am…?”
“Yeah,” his opponent said, finally revealing his identity. “I’m Amon.”
‘Amon…? The real Amon?’
After learning the truth, everything made sense. That was why he came here to attack Dopal. That was how he was stronger than him even after a +6 boost in stats. That was how he had so many skills.
‘Fuck! He was Amon!’
Dopal actually felt a bit relieved. He knew that he wouldn’t have been defeated by just any ordinary acolyte.
He had completely forgotten the cocky attitude he had earlier, where he thought he could beat anyone in the world. Including Amon.
“Do you get why I’m so mad now?” Amon asked.
Dopal fervently nodded his head. At first, he had a bone to pick with Amon, but now he was experiencing how weak he was in comparison to him first hand.
He dared not challenge Amon again. He just wanted to make it out in one piece.
Dopal prostrated, bowing until his head reached the ground. “I’m very sorry for what I did, sir. My actions were completely inexcusable.”
That wasn’t all, however. His tone completely shifted as well. Right now, the only way he could see himself surviving was through a sincere apology.
Dopal suspected that Amon’s threat of sending him to hell wasn’t an empty one.
“My apologies if I’ve offended you,” he continued. “I didn’t originally intend on impersonating you. It’s just that when I saw that post on Transcendent Net—”
“Oh. Are you saying it’s my fault for making that post?”
“N-no, sir! That’s not what I meant…” Dopal furiously tried to worm his way out of this crisis. “Please forgive me! If you give me one more chance, I promise to repent and live a righteous life!”
“You promise you won’t scam anyone anymore?”
“Of course! I won’t assault women or do anything bad, either. Please believe me!”
Did Dopal’s begging work? After a moment of contemplation, Amon nodded his head and turned around.
Dopal did get the urge to strike him from behind, but...
‘Restrain yourself,’ he thought. ‘This isn’t someone you can defeat.’
He was afraid of what would happen if his attack failed. He would end up wasting the second chance he had begged so pathetically for. That wasn’t a gamble he was willing to take.
“I’ll trust you for now,” Amon said.
With those words, he walked down the mountain.
Once Amon was fully out of sight, Dopal let out a big sigh of relief.
“That motherfucking asshole,” he cursed to himself. “That bitch thinks he’s a real bigshot, doesn’t he?”
He was so angry.
“Because of him, my IED is acting up again. Fuck!”
He was angry enough that he wanted to kill Amon right now, but that thought didn’t last long.
“Did you just badmouth me?” Amon asked. He was floating right above him.
At the sight of him, Dopal’s mind went completely blank.
