Volume 8 Chapter 188 - Leaving Lafrarosa

After becoming a part of the Illustrious Legend Tribe, Jin only had two weeks left in Lafrarosa.

For four days, he received training from the Legends and sparred with the other warriors. Every day, he fought all 64 warriors in the same order and in the same style—hand-to-hand combat.

As the day of his departure approached, the time of the Compass Interception Operation's commencement did as well.

Jin was getting more desperate.

He was about to have the most challenging fights of his life during the operation. In no way would it be an easy mission.

It was an operation against the Zipfel Clan and Kinzelo Group. Powerful individuals from each side would enter the stage, and Jin had to intercept the object of interest.

‘Although it’ll be an important exchange, neither the Zipfels’ patriarch nor Kinzelo’s Leader will attend, but they wouldn’t just send any peons either.’

Of course, Jin’s party also had incredible individuals—Jin, Murakan, Quikantel, Kashimir, Alisa. Just the presence of those five made them a force to be reckoned with.

However, what if the Midnight Sun Magicians or Tower of Magicians’ Pillars emerged in the Bellard Empire?

There was a problem with the Kinzelo Group as well. From what he remembered, the Seven-Colored Peacock confirmed that the group had three 9-stars, and Jin didn’t know how many White Wolf Tribesmen allied with them.

‘On the day of the operation, we decided to withdraw if the enemy's units were overwhelming… But if we withdraw now, we might never get a chance to steal the Compass.’

Eavesdropping on such information from Bouvard’s fragmenting workshop was an opportunity given by the gods.

He had to succeed no matter what. Which was why he went through the hell that was the Great Mythra Desert—just so he could train himself.

“You seem very conflicted, Jin.”

As the Legend entered the training grounds, Jin heard a familiar voice.

“Brethren Vahn.”

“Can you tell me what’s going on?”

“It's something from the outside world. My companions and I have to execute an operation, and I don’t know if I am enough.”

“Pathetic.”

“What is?”

“When you first came to the Battle Temple, you did not show a hint of fear. The enemies outside our realm wouldn't be stronger than us.”

Although Jin thought these words were stupid and arrogant, if these beastmen left Lafrarosa, the real world would be changed instantly despite there being only 77 of them.

Jin could feel it after becoming one of them.

And amongst the tribe, the Legends and the Goddess were completely different. Even if the entirety of the Zipfel Clan fought them, the magicians wouldn’t stand a chance.

“I’m not concerned about my well-being. However, I am afraid of my companions getting hurt. There are people who are weaker than me.”

Vahn stared blankly at Jin. He saw something within her deep, dark-blue eyes.

Her past.

Before she became the Battle Goddess, she had gone through the same dilemma as him.

Despite going extinct, there were endless questions on her actions.

“I want to say that it's too early.”

“To have these concerns?”

“Correct. You are not as simple-minded as the others. I know you fight because there are worthy opponents out there. However, your concern is too extraneous for the situation. It wouldn’t be late to feel such emotions when you are fighting an opponent you can never defeat. You will only feel more anguish.”

“However, it is true that there are many formidable opponents within the Zipfels and Kinzelo Group.”

Vahn smiled.

“You don’t know yourself too well.”

Instead of answering, Jin fell into deep thought.

‘I don’t know myself? What does that mean? Is she saying that I’m stronger than I think? Or is she saying that I don’t need to worry about the Zipfels and Kinzelos?’

Vahn didn’t know about the two groups. Even if she did, she wouldn’t feel the amount of threat that Jin was feeling.

Different thoughts went past his head, and Vahn opened her mouth.

“I think you should spend some time with me until you leave.”

“Will you direct me for the rest of my time here? I haven't finished my training with the Legends yet.”

“You are the one who can save our tribe, so your imperfections can ultimately lead to our downfall.”

“What does that even…?”

“I will hold, care, and cleanse your mind so that you can correct your vision.”

Vahn lent a sword.

“Sigmund, the Sword of Lightning. Boris worked on it so you can use it.”

Clang!

Jin and Vahn clashed swords.

About nine days had passed since he received the sword, and he finally got to use it.

The blade glowed a deep blue, as if it were made of sapphire. It was the same size as Bradamante.

In those nine days, Vahn killed Jin over ninety thousand times.

Vahn only requested for Jin to do one thing: successfully draw his sword in front of her.

Without instantly dying.

And finally, he got to see the blade’s blue light outside of the sheath.

“Phew…!”

In reality, anyone could draw their sword in front of Vahn.

However, not everyone could clash swords with her.

“Good strike.”

Vahn sheathed her sword and laughed.

“How does it feel to die ninety thousand times for no reason, Jin? You can do it easily.”

Ninety thousand pointless deaths.

Vahn expressed Jin’s nine days of hard work with spilling sweat and blood as ‘pointless’.

“…I don’t think I can handle another round.”

“Even before our time stopped, there weren’t many who could parry my attack twice.”

For those nine days, his skill with the sword didn’t really improve at all, since he had just been standing still and dying.

“Nine days ago, you had the skill to react to my attack. You had enough confidence and skill, but you didn’t know your own skill, which prevented your success.”

Vahn spent nine days trying to get Jin to know his own extent.

“Anguish distorts your vision of yourself. Hopefully, you’ve cleared your mind and gotten a good grasp of how strong you are. Good enough to parry one attack.”

Jin wiped the sweat off his head and thought.

‘How many of the swordsmen I know can even react to one attack from her?’

Jin compared it to an equivalent situation with someone weaker. Not many could even stand a second against Cyron.

“Had you not been able to figure yourself out and failed to draw Sigmund, I would have taken it back.”

“Now I think I can run it back again.”

“Well, you just did it now, so that’s obvious.”

Jin awkwardly smiled.

Knowing how strong he was with certainty was a first. He no longer feared the approaching June 1st.

“Now I can comfortably let you leave this realm. When we meet again, I hope to clash swords with you twice. Say goodbye to the Brethren and leave tomorrow morning.”

Jin was about to bow, but Vahn lightly held Jin’s chin. She brought his face closer to hers as she spoke softly.

“Always remember that the Brethren do not calculate favors.”

That night, all of the beastmen gathered for a farewell dinner party. They passed around crystal wine over and over again. Jin wanted to return the favor to this vibrant and kind tribe someday.

Since presents were not necessarily for returning the favor but simply given out of kindness.

“Have a nice trip, Brother. We will remember your achievements forever.”

May 17th, 1797.

The moment he left the Black Light City, Lafrarosa, the ivory desert stretched endlessly. All of the warmth felt like a fever dream as the sun brutally heated everything beneath it.

Wearing the new clothes that Boras sewed, Jin took his first step.

Two days later, an oasis appeared, and after that, a forest. It was the forest path he went through before entering the desert.

‘It looks like I just took a lap around the desert.’

He was thankful. If he actually trekked through, he would become an internationally known explorer. It wasn’t only a handful of beastmen who watched him walk into the desert.

“Hey, human! Desert!”

“Darkflame, friend!”

Jin saw the Watertail Tribesmen who were just finishing their trade with the Gold Snow Tribe in the Yuka-Yuka Market.

“Didn't die, human. Good!”

“Worried, we were.”

“Did overcome pain?”

It was currently the 25th of May. He still had five days to spare. A few hours of chatter wouldn’t be bad at all.

“Human, can’t go. Yuka-Yuka.”

“Why?”

“Orange Tiger Tribe.”

“Bad guys, ruining everything!”

“Go around, Meka-Meka Market. Use, secret pathway.”

If he wanted to go through the Meka-Meka Market, he had to spend another three to four days. Time would become too tight, and he might be late for the operation.

“No, I’ll be too late. I have to go somewhere by the end of May. Any secret pathways on this side?”

“Nothing. Over here.”

“Then let’s just go.”

“Harassed. They might, kill human.”

The Watertail Tribesmen constantly worried for him as he trotted towards the Yuka-Yuka Market, begging him to leave as they tugged on his robe.

Jin, however, couldn’t just yield.

Approaching the entrance to the market, he met two Orange Tiger Tribesmen.

“Uwaaaah— This not good.”

“Human, what do?”

“We pay money. You, can’t. Maybe.”

“You guys just go on ahead, okay?”

The Watertail Tribesmen advanced, nervousness written all over their face as they constantly looked back at him. The Orange Tiger beastmen took their toll and smacked their backs, letting them through.

‘If you got their money, just let them through. Why slap them? Just let them pass, damned pricks.’

The Orange Tiger Tribesmen were as arrogant as they were strong.

“Hey, hey, Human. Come here. Gimme all your shit and undress!”

“He’s a well-built one. We should give him to the females.”

“Puhahaha, they’ll enjoy it…”

However, as Jin walked closer, the beastmen’s words decreased.

‘Wh-What is this… this human?! What’s with his aura?!’

Not only was their speech discontinued, but their legs also began to shake.

Saliva dribbled down their chin, and all fur on their bodies stood straight up. They felt as if their stomachs were about to melt.

Instinctive fear.

The energy of a beastman tribe that would stomp them to the ground engulfed Jin.

A beast didn’t need to learn to fear a predator.

“U-Uuuuugh… K-KUUUAAAGH…!”

“AAAAAAAAGH!”

The beastmen bared their claws and fangs while screaming.

“Fuck off.”

Those two words alone left the beastmen slumped on the ground, bladder muscles relaxed.

“P-Please spare us. Please…”

They didn’t even dare to look up at Jin.
