Volume 8 Chapter 189 - Compass Interception Operation (1)

Jin returned the money to the Watertail Tribesmen. Unfortunately, he couldn’t watch the Orange Tiger beastmen scramble away.

“Thank, thanks, Human!”

The moment they arrived at the Yuka-Yuka Market, the Watertail Tribesmen explained the situation to the others. Upon learning of the situation, the representative of the tribe, Darkflame, expressed their gratitude to him.

“Sleep, today, Human. Watertail, party. Fun.”

“Sorry, I’m in a hurry. I’ll catch you all later.”

“Then, still, eat. This!”

The Watertail Tribesmen grilled some fish, which Jin quickly devoured.

“Oh, yeah. Darkflame, can I dye my hair?”

“What, dye, why?”

“I need it.”

“We, cannot. Wait, me bring. Gold Snow stylist.”

A Gold Snow Tribesman waddled down the secret entrance.

“Ah, Human. Our skills are pretty high quality, so it’ll take quite some money. The humans’ hair coloring cannot compare to ours. The price starts around…”

As the stylist tried to lay out the deal, Darkflame and the others stepped up. They delivered the news of the Orange Tiger Tribesmen, to which the stylist smiled.

“Ah, yes. In that case, I can make it free. I wish I could see them pissing themselves with my own eyes!”

Jin’s hair was quickly dyed, and he made his way back through the secret entrance to leave the Land of the Beastmen.

May 30th, 1797.

In the late afternoon, Jin arrived at the Bellard Empire’s southern islands.

‘This place hasn’t changed at all.’

A nameless island beyond the control of the empire; the playground of the pirates.

The place where Jin sought the Cosmos Arena.

Despite being in the open, there were drug addicts, beggars, and gamblers bustling in the island.

“Heeheehee!”

One man loitered in Jin’s vicinity whilst giggling. There were many beggars like this in the port, and most of them lost everything they had after fighting in the competition once—even their sanity.

However, Jin knew the culprit behind the laughter. He couldn’t hide his own greeting.

‘It’s Jet… That idiot.’

Jet.

He had already arrived two months prior and mingled amongst the crowd.

It was his means of gaining more connections throughout the world. The disguise was so immaculate that even Jin couldn’t tell if it was him or not.

“Heeheehoohoo! Hey, milord. Offer me some change! Hoohoo!”

He weaved through the beggars and shook a tin can at Jin.

The can contained one piece of paper in it.

(“How’ve you been, Bill?” Beak Inn Room 203. The plank with three nails beneath the bed.)

He checked the message before dropping a few bronze coins in the can. The beggars behind Jet started to scream.

“““WOOOOOOW!”””

“Heehoo, thank you for the gift!”

Jet fled, and all of the beggars followed, as if he had just drawn Excalibur from the stone.

‘I’m glad I took him in. He was a pain in the ass in my past life, though.’

He smirked and made his way towards Beak Inn.

The owner, who was slouched in his chair, waved him off as soon as he walked in.

“No rooms. Go somewhere else.”

“‘How’ve you been, Bill?’”

The owner paused and handed Jin the key to room 203.

As soon as Jin entered the room, he pushed the bed away and ripped off the plank with three nails. There was an envelope placed between two thin, red wooden planks.

(Milord, long time no see. Everyone else arrived around three to four weeks ago. They have settled in the other inns around the area.

Everyone is doing well, and no one has caught onto our plans.

Here is what we know so far:

On Kinzelo’s side, their forces include the Anz Grand Magician Chukon Tolderer and five 8-star magicians. Also, they have assault-general-level White Wolf Tribesmen.

I can’t guarantee the absence of disguised assassins or snipers, so please keep that in mind.

On the Zipfels’ side, however, we don’t have anything. It seems likely that they’ll reveal themselves on the day of the operation. It’s also possible that the Kinzelo Group may have falsely reported their forces.

Our operation will commence two hours before midnight on June 1st. There’s no change in our plans. The rendezvous point will be a gambling den on the northern side of the island. The red wooden plank will guarantee you entrance to the den.

Escape routes one, two, and three remain the same.

You’ll find the others’ addresses at the back of this letter.

Oh, and under the request of Sir Kashimir and Sir Murakan, Miss Syris has joined the operation. She would be of great help since she has experience in ambushes and guerilla tactics.

After delivering this message, I will return to Tikan. I will tell her that you are safe. I wish you luck, milord!)

His entire group was scattered across the island in order to prevent the Zipfels and Kinzelo Group from suspecting anything.

‘One 9-star magician, five 8-stars, and five White Wolf beastmen…’

That was enough to take over any kingdom or empire.

‘The Zipfels will probably match their forces. Tomorrow night will be a warzone.’

They had already discussed their plans six months prior.

A head-on collision was not the answer. Although Jin got stronger, the others probably couldn’t handle the fight.

They also took into consideration the possibility that Jin didn’t get stronger and failed the trials, so they had to reconsider the entire plan once more.

Whether they would execute their plan or not all boiled down to Jin.

If he didn’t show up at the gambling den, the group planned to return to Tikan.

However, Jin had no intention of backing off.

‘The fact that they brought these people means that the Compass is that important. I will take it swiftly.’

Well, the entire exchange would play out in guerilla style, so no real confrontation would occur.

However, if a battle actually were to break out, joining the fight wouldn’t be a bad idea. The entire island would fall as soon as one spell was thrown or one sword was swung.

A mutually assured destruction; not just of the island, but the port as well.

A whirlpool would appear in the middle of the ocean. Just like how Luna’s Mind’s Blade, Blood Moon removed an island off the face of the planet.

‘And if the fight escalates, then the Runcandels and Vermonts will smell their way into the issue.’

The Runcandel Clan and Vermont Imperial Family didn’t know about the Compass’s existence. If they knew, then there would have been hundreds of troops stationed on the island.

Jin cleaned his swords, Bradamante and Sigmund, in silence.

The next day, June 1st, at six o’clock.

Jin arrived at a shack on the northern side of the island, donning a dirty-blonde hairstyle with fancy clothes. With the addition of the two swords and thick makeup, he looked like a poser with extravagant ornaments.

A clueless noble who loved to flaunt wealth.

‘It’s been a while since thick makeup became trendy. I don’t understand why people even do this.’

Because of the layers of powder on his face, he felt like he was suffocating. From the shoulders up, he looked like a woman, but thankfully, his well-structured body prevented any misunderstandings.

This was all due to the Gold Snow Tribe’s special cosmetics.

—It seems to me that you're in need of some kind of disguise. For you, if you just apply makeup on your pretty facial structure, you’ll look like a girl. Don’t just stop at dyeing your hair. Why not just crossdress completely? No one will know!

—That’s a little…

—We’ll make sure to do the makeup well! Our materials are leagues beyond those pathetic human products. This is for your cheeks, this for your lips, this one’s for your forehead, and this is for your neck.

Unlike Jin, who didn't enjoy the time in his disguise, the other guests in the den were busy feasting their eyes on him and whispering, ‘I have never seen someone so beautiful,’ ‘I wanna play with her tonight,’ ‘I’ll let her borrow some money when she’s bankrupt,’ and the like.

Such distasteful comments disgusted him. In the past, he had received much attention because of his looks, but they were never this loud.

The disgusting men even started to hit on him.

“I haven’t seen you around these parts, but your presence sure brightens up this place. I’m Zelia.”

A black-haired woman approached him, and the muttering stopped. Zelia arrived two weeks ago and instantly made herself known to everyone.

She was none other than Syris Endorma.

At first, Jin couldn’t identify her. It wasn’t as much as Bouvard’s fragmenting, but the cosmetician in the Hidden Palace was very talented.

Just like her, his companions had their disguises done by the Hidden Palace.

With the exception of Murakan, who currently lay in Syris’s arms as a cat.

“The marble game is the most popular, my lord. A specialty here. Would you like me to explain it to you?”

Jin softly pushed her away.

“No thanks.”

“Well, if you don’t want any info, I guess it can’t be helped. But if you get into a game without knowing anything, your wallet will be wiped clean, so please go somewhere you’re familiar with. There’s Dice, Odds and Evens. But if you really want to have fun, please check out Marbles.”

She meant that the Zipfels and Kinzelos sat at the other tables while his group sat at the Marbles table.

“I guess it can’t be helped.”

“Please don’t come back late. It’ll be night time soon.”

To the others, it just looked like Zelia was coaxing Jin into a game.

The moment she left, the real players approached him. Jin lightly ignored them and took a gander at the enemies at the other tables.

‘The Kinzelo Group is reasonable enough to bring tons of troops, but the Zipfel Clan seems to have put in a lot of effort into this as well. They really made the Zipfel magicians with sky-piercing egos dress up as dirty gamblers. Who would’ve known?’

All the Zipfel magicians looked high-ranked. He tried to look for any familiar faces, but two huge, hooded figures turned their heads towards him.

They stood at three meters tall and were far from normal.

The White Wolves.

They seemed to have sensed something peculiar, so they stood up and walked towards Jin.

“Hey, you. Can we talk to you for a second?”

The Illustrious Legends’ aura.

‘I was concealing it as much as possible. Did they notice?’

Jin looked up and spoke.

“Goodness, aren’t you White Wolf Tribesmen? I wouldn’t have thought I’d meet some here!”
