Chapter 29

"It appears to have been a simple illusion spell, but Chloe Mueller couldn't react to it?"

"Simple? Did you say simple, Ain?" Len questioned with a tremor in his voice.

"Well, wasn't it?"

"Well, it was quite simple! The magic Leo inscribed wasn't complex! But it's not human magic; it's elf magic!" Len exclaimed, wrapping his arms around himself. "The magic systems of other races fundamentally differ from humans'! You can't grasp the structure of a different race’s sorcery merely through effort! Leo possesses an innate talent and sense for it! It's as if he was built for the sorcery department!"

"I don't understand what you're saying, Len Hors. Leo Plov is a knight studies major, isn’t he?"

"I doubt you comprehend it fully with your limited brain capacity, so let me explain it again."

"I see, you're asking for trouble."

Ain smirked coldly, seizing Len by the collar, but Len paid no heed and continued expounding on Leo's magical aptitude.

The Class 5 students, all joining hands, reveled in joy.

Class 1 had a clear advantage in terms of power.

But victory was Class 5’s.

Celia clenched her teeth, while Duran's expression twisted with frustration.

Chloe remained seated, lost in thought.

"Chloe, you need to get up."

"Pr-professor."

"No matter the outcome, it's important to show respect to your competitors and teammates after the game," Sedgen gently urged Chloe, bringing the two teams together.

"Well done, everyone. Class 5, go ahead and return to Professor Harrid and discuss today's match!"

Professor Sedgen turned his attention to the Class 1 students, who all bowed their heads in shame.

They were tense.

Professor Sedgen was known for his high standards.

His students were consistently outstanding, excelling in the various academy-hosted events.

However, they were defeated by the bottom-of-the-barrel-class, class 5.

Anticipating Sedgen's anger, the Class 1 students were scared.

"Excellent performance, everyone! I'm proud to see such remarkable displays!"

Contrary to their expectations, Sedgen commended his students.

"Celia, you showcased your strengths superbly! What tremendous destructive power! That's the Flaming Aura's might! But you could work on improving your stamina!"

Beginning with Celia, Sedgen provided feedback and praise to each of his students.

"Duran, your swift movements were impressive! Flawless execution! Enhancing your instantaneous destructive power would be beneficial! Lightning possesses formidable destructive capabilities!"

Sedgen's gaze shifted to Chloe one last time.

Chloe shrank back.

Despite her flawless performance until that last second, Chloe couldn't halt Leo's advances.

"Chloe, you performed flawlessly! No discernible weaknesses."

"I feel responsible for losing the game."

"Chloe, the game wasn't lost because of you. Technically, we lost in terms of score, but I don't consider it a loss for Class 1."

Professor Sedgen smiled gently.

"Our class 1 dominated the game, and it was only 20 minutes long. Class 5 showed impressive teamwork, but given more time, we would have turned the tide!"

Professor Sedgen gave Chloe's shoulder a reassuring pat.

"And the reason you couldn't stop Leo at the end was because he outsmarted you. Regardless of his opponent, Leo's skill would have been difficult to counter. That's what I think, at least!"

With conviction, Professor Sedgen gestured upward.

"Chin up, everyone! Class 1 remains the epitome of elegance!"

"Oh, professor!"

"Wow! You have my utmost respect!"

The Class 1 students praised Professor Sedgen enthusiastically.

They had mistakenly attributed Sedgen's reputation solely to his achievements.

He wasn't just interested in high-performing students; he was known for his unwavering support for every student under his guidance.

The reason he had chosen Class 1 wasn't just because of their high test scores; it was because he genuinely liked those students.

Like that, Class 1 was able to bond.

"Professor Sedgen."

"Leo, your strategy in today's match was impressive. What inspired it?"

"Professor Harrid instructed me to ask one of you to fetch a drink immediately. And he asks to assign someone to clean the bathrooms starting today."

Leo's words immediately dampened their atmosphere, leaving Sedgen speechless.

"Ah! Professor Sedgen! Professors Ain and Len are having a showdown!"

At that moment, Howl, a student from Class 1 was startled by the light of Aura and sorcery clashing fiercely in his periphery on the training grounds.

"Howl."

"Yes?"

"Would you and your friends mind fetching drinks from the cafe? Professors Ain and Len will handle themselves."

As Professor Harrid spoke, he approached the two professors.

Howl nodded dutifully and headed to the on-campus cafe with his friends.

Leo mischievously added an extra request to Howl.

"Get the most expensive one."

Choke

Sedgen felt a tug at the back of his neck.

‘We’ll get you next time! Class 1, we can do this!’

A month had passed since the first-year students arrived at Lumene.

That was enough time for them to acclimate.

"Good morning, everyone."

Yawning, Carr took a seat at the table.

"Were you up late last night?"

Carr scratched his head while Chelsea questioned him during breakfast in the school cafeteria.

"Yeah. The demand for my Fatigue Recovery Potions is increasing daily."

Despite his low combat abilities, Carr excelled in alchemy and supporting sorcery.

Professor Harrid had been positively evaluating Carr since his arrival at the school, since he’d declared his intentions to pursue a career as a support.

Plus, his potion business was thriving.

He had been promoting it since the entrance ceremony, and his potions were selling like hot cakes, since the captains often used Carr's Fatigue Recovery Potions.

Especially since many students preferred buying over making their own, since they took a lot of effort to make.

"I wish there were other items people wanted."

Carr looked a little disappointed, thinking about his unsold stock of other materials.

However, he couldn’t complain much, since he was a lot more successful than he could’ve ever predicted.

Leo mentioned casually while chewing his morning steak, "Did you hear the rumor going around?"

"What rumor?"

"I heard the upperclassmen dungeon raiders are coming back today."

Leo's eyes gleamed with excitement.

"I heard! There are rumors that three teams are returning!"

Dungeon raiders, who were tasked with attacking the Hero Dungeons and retrieving the lost pages of the hero records, were often away from school.

These students, who were considered the strongest in the school, were away in three teams.

The first-year students were eager to meet Lumene's most famous upperclassmen.

Chelsea mentioned between bites, "I heard we’ll use Hero Records pages as study materials in the next heroics class."

Carr was thrilled.

"I thought we had to take a midterm exam before delving into heroics."

"No, not quite. I heard some of the recovered pages are damaged. We'll have a class to analyze those."

"Eh? So what?"

“What do you mean? It’s such an honor to see fresh pages of the Hero Record!”

Chelsea's eyes sparkled with interest.

She was a real hero history buff, going as far as to study ancient texts.

"Come to think of it, isn’t the club fair coming up soon?"

Carr stroked his chin.

For first-years who had just become accustomed to school life, their turn to join clubs was just around the corner.

"Do any of you have any clubs in mind? I might join the commerce club."

"I'm considering the music club. I’ve been playing music since I was little."

“Oh, what a rich kid's hobby. Leo, what about you?"

"I'm thinking of starting my own club."

"What?"

"You're going to start a club?"

“Yeah.”

Chelsea and Carr were intrigued when the class representative mentioned starting a club.

"What kind of club are you thinking of?"

"The Hero Research Society."

"A society for hero research? Sounds like an academic club."

Carr expressed his skepticism.

"Typically, clubs are meant to provide a break from schoolwork. Will people be interested in something so studious?"

Chelsea also shook her head, sharing her doubts.

"It's not about academics at all. I just want to delve into the stories of forgotten heroes," Leo explained with a gentle smile, piquing Carr's curiosity.

"Like who?"

"Take Kyle, the Hero of the Beginning, for example."

Kyle's tale was shrouded in obscurity at Lumene.

"Kyle? He’s not so much forgotten as he is a fantasy character. Pursuing him might not gain much popularity."

Chelsea, a lover of hero tales, was enthralled.

"It sounds intriguing though! Kyle's not in the Hero Records, but he's a renowned hero. Maybe we can uncover his story and raise his recognition! Maybe his Hero Record just hasn’t been discovered yet!"

"Chelsea."

"Yes?"

"You're so sweet."

Leo, touched by Chelsea's enthusiasm, affectionately patted her head.

Chelsea blushed at the unexpected gesture but soon chuckled and allowed herself to enjoy Leo's warmth.

Carr chuckled at the heartwarming scene.

"Your ambition is grand. But isn't Kyle more of a myth than a genuine hero? How about Dweno? He's a celebrated commander and party leader. Perhaps he's a more realistic subject... kghkgg, kghgkhgkg!!!”

"Carr, you're going to choke if you only eat bread and don’t drink anything."

"Who said I'm only eating bread?"

"Huh? Want another, then?"

"Eww!”

Leo kindly shoved a piece of bread into his friend’s mouth.

After their morning class, lunchtime arrived.

The students hastily filed out of the classroom.

Leo tidied his books, preparing to leave his seat.

"Leo."

"What's up?"

Celia entered Class 5 and approached Leo.

"Why are you visiting other classes, Celia?" Chelsea asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm here for Leo. You don't have lunch plans, right?"

"No, not really."

"Then let's have lunch together."

"Why?"

"The student council president wants to see you."
